Really hoping this is just a minor league deal. No way we guaranteed him a rotation spot right?

I don't mind letting Yo come back and try to regain some of his past form. Dude is still pretty young but with the way he's pitched the past two years the absolutely shouldn't be guaranteeing him anything.

Edit: Just saw Heyman saying it's on a major league deal. Don't love that. Seems like there are better uses of a 40 man spot.

He won't be guaranteed anything in terms of a spot in on the pitching staff but I don't see him as a guy likely to rebound into anything resembling respectable at all so this just seems like a waste of time.

Props to his agent for getting him a major league deal though given how bad he's been the last two years.

If Yo loved baseball he'd be a multiple time Cy Young candidate and all star. He loves partying.

Says a lot about what Stearns thinks of the roster imo.

Curious to see the contract deets. He’s been a poor starter the past two seasons but he did show an uptick in velocity last year w a decent infield fly percentage. Given what we currently have in the pitching cupboard not a bad reclamation project, imho.

Could be ultimately. He was moved to the pen last season but released due to his salary. Could end up a utility pitcher when it’s all said and done.

Nothing expected from Yo but nothing to lose either
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'd use him as a piggy-back starter or long reliever or something. I'm glad they're just looking for stopgaps. Incidentally, does Yovani have options? For some reason I thought a lot of the former best prospects technically still have options, but I could be wrong. Would be interesting to use him as a shuttle service guy.

Give literally any starter in the minors a chance over Gallardo and his aging scrub pitching.

Every stat is bad with Gallardo, from ERA/WHIP/BB9/K9/HR9/K-BB ratio/innings per start. And he was terrible the year prior, along with getting old. First move by Stearns that i can't grasp in any way at all.

Oh, he totally sucks. I'm just saying I'm alright with that. I didn't like the free agent market and I think losing Nelson justifies sitting this one out. So Yo is just gonna eat some innings and be a stealth tank throwaway guy. I figure Yo, Jungmann, Guerra, and Wilkerson will all get less than 100 innings and they'll all suck.

I have zero faith in Yo or Jeffress to bounce back. I think they both take their bodies and talent for granted and you can't do that once you're past your physical peak, which is about 27. Yo was already washed-up years ago.

It's probably foolish to read too much into the Yo signing until we see what they do over the next month but maybe it's a sign they are leaning towards giving Hader shot in the rotation to start the season. Yo could be viewed as a back up plan who you keep as a long reliever that could be a stop gap if Hader struggles and gets moved back to the pen. I realize they have Guerra, Jungman, and Wilkerson in that mold but I kind of doubt all those guys make it through the next month without getting DFA'd so it might just be they like Yo's upside more than a guy or two in that bunch and whoever of that bunch does make to spring training would be battling Yo for that long reliever spot.

Some of what they do in the starter market could hinge on how they feel about Burnes, Ortiz, and Peralta. Partly because if they deal for a guy like Archer at least one of those guys will be in that trade but mostly if they think those guys are the real deal they probably don't want to lock in salary with a mid to bottom of the rotation guy with these guys coming as soon as late next season and definitely some time in 2019. It's possible the Brewers do feel like they will regress a little this season so as some pointed out they could be bringing guys like Yo into bridge the gap until some of these good pitching prospects are ready.

On a broader picture of them looking at 2018 as more of a bridge year than one they truly want to compete if they move Hader into the starting rotation you would have him and Woodruff getting their first full year up and as starters, then in the lineup you will have Phillips and Brinson getting their first full year up and contributing, at 2nd they will give Villar a shot to bounce back but if he struggles you could see them give Dubon an audition to see if he could be starter. At that point it's a lot of guys getting their first cracks at major big league roles and naturally some will take some time to adjust but you hope that experience would lead to some being good in 2019 and at that point you hope Nelson is fully healthy and if they don't spend this year then they could go into next winter with a good idea of what they need and the money to address it. Now if everyone plays well and they are competing come July they would have the financial flexibility and prospects to add some guys and make a run.

Now this post could look foolish in a week if they deal for Archer and give Walker a big deal lol

Maybe Yovani will pitch lights out and we trade him to the rangers at deadline?
