I'd trade Shump for Delly this summer. I'm pretty much over Shump. He's hurt all the time, he dogs it in the regular season, and even when he tries in the postseason, he tries too hard on offense and doesn't play within his game. Liggins gave you 90% of what Shump gave you 1/10th the money.

I liked Liggins over Shumpert. He played within his skill level unlike Shumpert. I cringe when Shumpert shoots the ball. Also, when Shumpert plays during garbage time which hasn't been much this year, he dominates the ball like he is the best one on the court. I rather see other players develop Shumpert has had his chance.

as good as Calderon has been passing the ball and his high IQ making the right play, I would still rather have Shumpert's defense out there on most nights, but he does get too excited sometimes when plays break down, even though when he is trying to do more than what is within his comfort zone offensively, I guarantee you that is what is expected from Coaching staff, because he is capable of doing more than he normally is tasked with as a 4th or 5th option scorer.
This lack of Love for Shump is understandable because he is becoming unreliable, and is overpaid. However trying to minimize his impact offensively more than the truth ,just to justify moving him is irrational and close minded.
We never should have let Liggins walk btw, he is a better defender than Shumpert despite not having nearly the arsenal offensively that Shumpert rarely is asked to unleash and often criticized for when doing so even when he is solid and gets results.

Read on Twitter

“The only way they trade that (pick) would be a transformational player, someone who can help them win a championship,” one executive told Sporting News. “I don’t think there is necessarily a player like that out there, at least not what’s been talked about so far. But you’re not going to deal away your chance at a top player in this draft for the right to lose to the Warriors again.”

So unless DeMarcus Cousins or Paul George becomes available soon, all signs point to the Cavs keeping the pick.

Trade Ideas (Part III)

Post#383 » by Truthful1 » Sat Dec 16, 2017 3:28 am

I would trade Shumpert for Wilson Chandler, Tyson Chandler, Robin Lopez, Kenneth Faried or Bismack Biyambo. The Cavs have an abundance of guards and small forwards so an extra big man wouldn't hurt. Wilson Chandler can play both forward spots and Faried can play power forward and center in a small ball line up, plus he is more athletic than TT which would help against Draymond Green.

Faried is essentially TT. Wislon Chandler looks pretty cooked. The rest of those players make too much.

Faried is way more athletic than TT. TT is uncoordinated. The other players make more but that is why you throw in another player. I would trade TT for one of those other players in a heart beat.

https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6979248this is about the only way The org might move Shump where we get back a decent rim protector and a scorer, and throw in our own 1st.
other than maybe to Detroit for Bradley and a filler ; https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6979249
I don't see Shump getting moved before the deadline otherwise, provides too much solid defense for us and has too high a contract with a PO as well to attract much interest beyond teams looking to move players for something besides nothing

low key move to dump salary and get back a couple pieces that can help us now. Probably have to give up our first despite the expiring of Frye clearing some cap for Charlotte and Shumps PO which he will definitely accept.

Do the Cavs consider a Marc Gasol for TT+Crowder trade? Leaves the Cavs short on wing defenders, even though Crowder hasn't been great. Do the Grizz pull the trigger, or do they need a pick?

No. I think cavs will need a flex center somebody who can rim protect/score in post and come off bench.

Greg Monroe is the perfect big man for this cavs team this season. He can score in the post/reb better than TT and a expire 17.9m

TT+iman shumpert+ a draft pick for Greg Monroe

Zach randolph would be Good also. would be a beast vs Golden st

Now that Anthony Davis has brought himself up as a trade target(well, that's how I'm reading it) I would imagine that he's one of those guys that makes the Brooklyn pick easy to part with.

The pick, Thompson, Shumpert, and Osman for Davis and Tony Allen. Other picks/players could be swapped in there, but I'm sure the Cavs would be down for this right?

How you gonna mention rimprotectors and Monroe/Zach in the same post?

I'd have to think about this one. Gasol's age and contract are real concerns for me.

Yes please. Throw in Zizic if you like.

No to both of those. TT is a considerably better defender than either of those players.

or this :https://basketball.realgm.com/tradechecker/saved_trade/6980777 and the 2020 2nd from Miami

Are you delusional? No way Grizz would give up their youth. Tristan Thompson has negative value, way overpaid. Cav's would need to take on a bad contract to unload him.

thanks for the opinion I'll keep it under advisement.
fyi those deals are the only way "I WOULD" trade for Gasol. Never once did I say they were realistic, but the only way The Cavs org would move those players for Gasol.
We would never give up Crowder,TT & a pick for a past his prime old allstar playing the same position as KLove.
Memphis would have to move a couple young players if they wanted impact players like TT and Crowder regardless of if they are overpaid, as Gasol himself is overpaid being past his prime.Memphis would never trade for those players either unless they were trying to remain relevant. Moving Gasol doesn't equal tanking if you move him for impact players on multiyear deals. Crowders contract is dirt cheap in comparison as well and well compensatory for the slight over pay for TT.

Honestly, the Cavs like TT. They're happy he's back from his injury. He's a better PNR defender than most of the big men than who the Cavs would be taking back in these trades. I'd rather rent a rim protector like Noel for cheap than trade into Gasol's contract at his age.

There is no way the Wolves do that.

Return to Cleveland Cavaliers
