Grant, Chauncey, Rip and Ben up for Hall of Fame

Post#1 » by Laimbeer » Fri Dec 22, 2017 6:41 pm

Who makes it?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

RIP is ranked in the 30s somewhere for all-time career playoff scoring I believe. But I don't think he gets there. Ben/Billups should get there but might not its always tough to say as it isn't the NBA its the basketball HOF... That also might help RIP who won a championship at UCONN as well.

I know it used to be what, 6, 7 years before you got it before they amended it..what the hell is it now, 3 years? Seems like Rip & Chauncey both just retired.

Do you mean get in this year, or get in eventually? 'Cuz I honestly wouldn't be surprised if all four got snubbed this year. To me, Ben is a mortal lock to eventually make it, Grant and Chauncey are probables (with Grant being more probable), and Rip is a long shot to ever be inducted.

Rip definitely gets in (eventually) imo. Remember it's the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, which honors international players and amateurs as well, not just the NBA Hall of Fame. We're all aware of his accomplishments with the Pistons, but dude had a great college career too:

(from wiki)
NCAA champion (1999)
NCAA Final Four Most Outstanding Player (1999)
Consensus first-team All-American (1999)
Consensus second-team All-American (1998)
2× Big East Player of the Year (1998, 1999)
2× Big East All-Tournament Team (1998, 1999)
2× Big East leader in season points (1998, 1999)
Big East All-Rookie Team (1997)
Second-leading scorer in UConn history (2,036 points)
