I've watched Rubio a little bit this season and want no part. His lack of shooting is a feature at this point. Hood doesn't provide a lot that we don't already have. It would take a much better fitting young piece for me to even consider moving a pick. This year's draft has a lot of more traditional small forward options i.e. guys that can also rebound a bit.

Barton, on the other hand, intrigues me. He could be that second playmaker next to Frank. If Hornacek is still here, I think he would love Barton.

I get it if you don’t think Hood or Rubio aren’t that good, or even have some hang up on moving picks because of past failures, but let’s stop pretending like this is some one way massacre. It’s a fair deal.

My primary objection for not doing it is because we would probably be too good to end up with a high pick.

Even if we didn't, I think the hope is that we still come away from the draft with a better player than Hood. And this is coming from someone who actually likes him.

Besides, there really isn't an immediate need to get rid of Noahs contract. Who are we going to sign with the money we clear?

I too would hope we could get someone better than Hood and also feel there is no immediate need to dump Noah.

I just don’t get how it’s a bad deal or making us worse, especially when you’re protecting the pick to limit the downside.

I don't think he's an upgrade over McDermott to be honest.

Comparison of Hood and McDermott:

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/pcm_finder.fcgi?request=1&sum=1&player_id1_hint=Rodney+Hood&player_id1_select=Rodney+Hood&player_id1=hoodro01&y1=2018&player_id2_select=Doug+McDermott&y2=2018&player_id2=mcderdo01&idx=players

Seems to me that Hood is a little more potent of a scorer and people here say he's a stud on defense. I can't speak on that though. What's wrong with having both Hood and McDermott? That way we can trade Lee and LFT for assets. And having both Hood and Doug gives Jeff a lot of rotational flexibility ... and youth.

I have no interest in trading picks. The team isn't at a place in the rebuilding where it makes sense to do so.

I'd throw caution to the wind and do that deal. We going to do better than Rodney Hood in the draft?

There are no absolutes here.

I’m team Doncic so I wouldn’t send an unprotected pick. I’d even only do it if it was something close to lottery protected. But a non lotter 1st getting you Hood and Rubio and dumping Noah seems like a win to me.

I don’t even necessarily want to do the deal. I just think it’s a fair deal and is no where near compounding our current issues. It’s alleviating them.

Knicks should be at a place where if they are trading decent players they should be "collecting" picks and assets. Trading Noah sets the franchise back because assets have to be included to move him.

The above mentioned deals really do nothing to aid in the rebuild.

Idk what’s going to happen. None of us do. That’s why I’d push for the protection. At full strength this team is better than anyone thought. Will we get back to full strength in time? If THJ injury pushes into February, or KP gets hurt, we’re toast.

Back to the trade part - dumping Noah, Lee & LFT will have us near max cap space in 2019 - assuming we waive the bird rights to MCD & Kanter. We may want them moving fwd and if we do, it probably doesn’t matter if we move Noah before he expires.

I wish there was a trade machine that broke down upcoming years of salary cap flexibility for a team with estimated cap increases.

I agree with you on the pick being lottery protected though with Hood on the team, I think we’d be a lock for the playoffs. Though if I’m Utah, I’m not agreeing to take Noah with that protection.

Trading Joakim Noah is not an option because we would have to give up something of vaule..

My questions is.... if the Knicks bought out Noah’s contract, will his contract disappear and no longer affect the Knicks’ cap space??

If Knicks were to trade anyone it would be Courtney Lee.

He has played great basketball this season and his contract is appealing as well.

I could see a number of playoff teams that could use Courtney Lee for depth.

The question remains... do the Knicks want to try to win now or keep building the young core
