Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I don't care if he attempts 27 or 47 shots as long as he's able to shoot himself into some kind of rhythm, isn't reinforcing bad habits while he's there, and is getting a spot in our rotation once he's back.

pretty sure taking a bunch of bad shots is in fact reinforcing bad habits. monk thinks there is no such thing as a bad shot, which is half his problem.

This is definitely obvious. He’s going to need a vigorous offseason program. Hard for me to knock him so much since he missed most of this past offseason and training camp with a ankle injury. But it’s apparent that he’s not used to playing against players that share the same athleticism as him.

Somehow I agree with MotorKeepsGoing and Fats. I believe that he needs to shoot himself into a rhythm regardless of how many shots but eventually he’ll need to learn better shot selection. I think he’ll get both through trial and error.

Feel bad for the guys on the Swarm who work their ass off just to have a kid come in and shoot like **** and jack it up every time he touches the ball.

We should just trade him for a 2nd round pick and save him from being ruined by this franchise. If I was an NBA agent I would advise all my clients entering the draft to refuse workouts with the Hornets.

With Monk heading to the Swarm, is there a possibility Goodwin makes a move to the Hornets?

I agree with this. At this point, he needs court time. I'd like to see him build some confidence, and then this summer he needs to get stronger.

We don't need another non shooter
With goodwin on the team mkg would suddenly become our 5th worst shooter. (Mcw, Dwight, cody, Goodwin being worse)

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
Monk is somewhat confirming our pre-draft thoughts.
-too small to defend Or create own offense
-not skilled enough to be a pg, too small for a sg
Etc.
Basically, hope he is Lou Williams and not a tweener that can't really play either position well.

I have to respectfully disagree. My thought is we cut MCW, and just add Goodwin at the 1. I honestly think we'd be better. He's better getting to the rim, better finishing at the rim, and he has played the 1 before.
I don't really see how he's a worse option than MCW at the backup 1, even if he's unconventional.

I do hope he ends up being more that Lou williams, but if that's where he ends up then it is what it is.
I do think that Monk's future is PG. He is going to have to work on his handle and shot selection, but his court vision and passing make me think he can do it.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

We didn't play monk over mcw, we aren't playing a g league dude over him. Mcw is this years player who sucks butt but still plays a decent amount.

We seem to have one or two of these guys every year under Clifford.

I agree with you that it will not happen, but I'm still 100% positive it would be better to have Goodwin play the backup 1 than MCW. Sure, Goodwin isn't known for hitting threes, but MCW can't hit a layup :/

Its shameful that we can't find a backup pg. Its the deepest position in the league and just about every team has good pg's.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
I still belive Monk will be our best player within 3 years. Similar to Walker. We can't forget he is still a kid. He's only 19 years old. If Kemba was 19 when he was drafted he would have looked just as bad if not worse. This season is his first step next year he will make a lot of progress and his third season i expect him to average close to 20 ppg

Monk will be out of the league by the end of his rookie contact. He won't work for it

Ooh, I’d take a piece of that bet. I say he’s more likely to be a starter by then.

Re: We Want the Monk: The Malik Monk Thread
RealGM logic: MKG’s still learning the game, it’s only his fifth season! He’s got plenty of time to prove himself.
Also RealGM logic: Monk is 19 and two months into his NBA career. Trade him for a second-round pick.
