I miss Unbreakable's posts. He/she and Lloyd have kept this thread pretty lively. Who would have known Fultz missing games would stir up this much controversy? Lol.
I'm good with Fultz taking as long as he needs to get on the court.

Because I didn't disagree strongly with Schmitz or Givony on Okafor. My intent was to point out I have my own evals, not to make some silly claim that I'm perfect.
Your intent, on the other hand, is crystal clear.

Didn't you have Okafor like 4th or 5th?

Yup. Thought he'd be a Brook Lopez. Good enough to start in the league and make a team waste 7 years on him, while they lost every game. Turns out I over-rated him. Had Fultz 5th too. And I think I probably over-rated him too.

Not always easy to be right on prospects. I had Osh Ackson 10th and I overrated him alot, also Ennis Smith as the best player in the draft and so far he is just a no D chucker.

My question to 76er fans is, what would fultz at this point need to accomplish for the trade to be considered a win for the 76ers? Tatum leads the league in 3pt% still at a 50% clip (attempted over 100). What kind of contributions are you looking forward to from fultz that you would consider satisfactory and worthy of trading the 3pt leader and a future lottery pick for ? Not looking for reactions, only a serious discussion.

I'm not too concerned about the trade at this point. I believed in Fultz when we drafted him and still do. Plus I don't even need him to be as good as Tatum for the trade to work for me. Just need Fultz to be the perfect piece alongside Ben and Jojo. Make em shine. Means he's gotta be a plus 3pt shooter and a plus defender on the the other teams 1 or 2 guard. Also has to create his own shot off the dribble and create for others.
Also, don't wanna take away from Tatum, cause he's been great, but he's partly a product of system (wouldn't be putting up his efficiency #s if he was drafted by us and def not if he were on the Lakers, Suns or Kings. Will also be regression to mean... not saying his shot's gonna disappear but don't expect a rookie who wasn't an elite 3 point shooter in college to have the highest 3pt% at the end of the season. He looks like he's gonna be a star though. Not just the 3 pointers but his all around game at 19 is sick.
The trade looks great for you all, I expect it'll look pretty good for us once our man's on the court at full strength. Best of luck to you. I hate the Celtics with a blazing passion and really look forward to a renewed rivalry that is worthy of my intense loathing of your crap basketball team and your weak ass city.

If Tatum shoots 50% of his shots behind the three point line for his career and becomes the best shooter in the history of the NBA then it's probably fair to say that the Celtics would "win" this trade.
However the whole "winning" a trade is kind of hard because there are so many factors influencing the outcome and both teams have different needs. Fultz is drafted because of his excellent fit with Embiid and Simmons, so if he becomes the player we want him to be, the win is successful from Sixers perspective.
This means that Fultz has to become the dynamic scorer he was projected to become and probably provide some defensive versatility as a big guard with massive arms.
If Tatum pans out and the Celtics draft Ayton at 2 it's definitely a fantastic outcome for the Celtics, but that's a scenario that the Sixers knew was possible and are willing to live with. It's about the future of the Sixers, not the Celtics.

fake news. this was the flattest top seven since 2014. my recollection is that a plurality liked fultz, and plenty of gms liked one of the other top six players. there's only three or four reporters with access to nba gms. so i'm very curious about where this consensus opinion came from. commenters on realgm?
besides that, availability is a skill. its interesting that an analyst would ignore the fact that he's unavailable after hurting himself by himself. had he been injured like this before the draft, it would've been something to consider then. so its something to consider now. if he's physically or mentally fragile, then that negates any advantage he had over DSJ in my eyes (besides the long arms, lol).
rooting for fultz. not blind to what's happening though. maybe the 'analytics' experts can pull the numbers of all the players who missed half a season working out by themselves and see how they fare for the rest of their career.
The same GM's who thought that Jahlil Okafor, Kris Dunn and Lonzo Ball would become the ROTY? I'm quite sure that the GM's who are actually involved in the lottery discussion don't give their opinions on the top prospects to reporters, it's way too valuable.
Nearly every reporter who spent hundreds of hours analyzing the draft came up with Fultz on top of the board, does that mean he'll be the best player of the draft? No. It's nearly ****ing impossible to project a player's outcome because of the million factors influencing that outcome and so many are yet unknown.
Blake Griffin, Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons missed plenty of time and are doing fine now. Let's turn it around, which rookie busted because he didn't play in his first 40 games in the NBA?
I'm just really curious what you guys thought would have happened. He hasn't played competitive basketball for a long time now and he's had issues with his shooting mechanics. Rushing him back just for the sake of it is absolutely the wrong way to go. I've said a month ago that January was far more realistic than December and I do believe that we'll see him next month.

Off topic, but I'm wondering if you guys from the Athletic have insights about the developmental process of Simmons and Fultz' shooting mechanics. I know that the Sixers are protecting Brett Brown from getting hard questions regarding injured players, but this applies to Ben as well. So technically it's not a question about an injured player.
Can Brett Brown enlighten us about their strategy regarding Simmons (and Fultz) his shooting rehabilitation? They changed his FT motion with limiting the number of moving parts throughout his shooting motion, thus far it doesn't seem like it's helping Simmons. Is it a first step in a longer process to slowly add more moving parts (like involving lower body into his motion), or is this the philosophy of John Townsend? Because there are several shooting coaches who strongly believe that limiting as much motion increases the repeatability of a shot.

Of course you are looking for a reaction. Your posts elsewhere are littered with anti-Simmons, anti-sixers stuff. You want the usuals to react.

Re: Markelle Fultz Discussion III: Now with more warnings than games played
I expect Fultz to run the offense in half court sets, even when Simmons is on the court. I expect some rough shooting games (5 for 20 etc) early on, but I want to see him get better at finishing around the rim with some offensive flashes when the looks like Harden-lite with he ball in the pick and roll. I expect to see him shooting those mid range/3pt shots when open without hesitation. I expect our defense to look significantly better with less Bayless and in combination with JA back. I expect our half court offense, whether he's a starter or not, to get significantly better. He's a play maker and shot taker, something we're desperate for when Embiid is off the court. I was and have always been on board with not rushing Fultz back until that jumpshot returns to form. Fingers crossed we're almost there.

What Fultz has to do has nothing to do with Tatum. Fultz needs to be an allstar guard that fits perfectly with Embiid and Simmons for the trade to have been worth it. So a Bradley Beal/Jrue Holliday/Damien Lillard type.
