How bad is it?

Post#1 » by RingsDontLie » Thu Dec 28, 2017 8:04 am

Playoffs not looking too good right now and looks like we are heading down hill like other young teams like the 76ers. I'd like to believe this team can turn things around but not one win on a long home stretch? We just not talented enough? Bad ref calls? Too young? Not hungry enough?

Here is one thing, if the Lakers are the worst 3 point shooting team in the league, why are we shooting so many threes? Hey coach, why are we shooting so many threes? Should the Lakers be running a system that allows you to shoot so many threes? Maybe we should try to just get the high percentage shot. :banghead:

currently. this is the team's capacity and will need a couple of years for our young guys to start reaching their potential. if we want to reach that next level, i feel like we need to shake up our roster to achieve that. either thru the trade deadline or wait until the offseason.

I feel like the team has taken a few big steps back however. We are seeing the frustration with Randle/Clarkson about the cap issue/trading block talks, and unsteady playing time(in regards to randle). JC/Randle have been very professional and deserve better. I don't like how Luke is not playing Randle more, it's frustrating. The guy needs steady playing time night in and night out whether it's off the bench or not.

I don't like how the Lakers are ran, and I don't know if it's the coach calling the shots or the front office at this point.

I'm not the one who normally complains about the refs, more so on other small things such as FT shooting

But in this game ... Vs MEM

Did anyone see that play where Chalmers steps completely out of bounds to save the ball, then passes off too a wide open shooter (not sure who) and he makes the 3 point shot?

The ref was right there LMAFO. Compared to 80's 90's etc todays REFs are even worse

There are games where someone gets called a foul from a light touch, then other plays where Refs let even the toughest fouls go just to make the game entertaining LOL

I'll see if I can find a clip on that pay MEM vs LA

We were a few games away from playoff contention and all of a sudden we are fighting not to gift the Celtics another top5 pick.

The young kids were gaining momentum right at the end of the tough schedule a week ago but injuries have happened at the worst possible moment, just when we had four winnables games in a row.

It doesn't look good right now, maybe a trade can do the trick.

It's bad.

Outside of KCP, Ingram, Kuzma, Lonzo (who are all guaranteed 33+ MPG when healthy), I don't think any player knows when or where their minutes are coming from.

There's no sort of continuity or set roles at the 4/5. Sometimes we go Nance/Randle, sometimes only one of those two and then Ingram at the 4. Brewer plays a few minutes in the first half and then isn't seen in the second half. Same with Tyler Ennis. Caruso and Thomas Bryant have made random appearances in the fourth quarters of big games against Portland & Memphis. Most of the time after not playing up until that point. Jordan Clarkson's minutes are inconsistent. Randle's being f***ed around.

It's really bad.

They are a young terrible team it is what it is. Either trade for proven talent or let them grow they're not going to instantly learn how to win overnight like boston did that's rare. By 2020 they should be a decent ball club no need to run around firing the guy who didn't put this roster together.

This team is rough to watch right now

A month ago they were really fun
USA Celtics in full effect. Amazing chemistry building experience right there for the main core of the team

We need the trade deadline (and what it will bring) to pass before we see how "bad" it is. Young teams tend to surprise early and fade late in seasons. It's happened forever and it happened last year to us. The veteran teams know the schedule is a marathon not a sprint and tend to gel later in the year while the younger teams tend to burn out a bit.

That said, I believed this team was a 30-35 win team at the beginning of the season.... I was thinking that we may not hit that wall with the emergence of Kuzma but with the injuries and then uncertainty to go along with the crazy and constantly changing lineups I'm back at that original thought. It's tough to make the playoffs without at least one solid veteran who can close games. We really don't have that guy or anyone who will be that guy by the end of this year on the team currently.

It is what they said it is... a "development year" for us. I just wish they would develop some of the guys who haven't had any burn yet (Zubac and Bryant for example).

There is nothing we can do this season that would make us playoff contenders IMO... One major trade would be a long shot... We'd need at least 2...
Our problem isn't just talent, it's experience and chemistry. We have a bunch of good players going out and playing well individually on given nights, but we haven't figured out how to play well as a team... Part of that is because of our rotations, part just lack of NBA experience...
But adding a superstar at the deadline will only help to a certain extent... It won't help chemistry and cohesiveness.

Only way you win with a bad chemistry team is if the individual performers are more talented than everyone else...

Long story short, adding PG or Cousins isn't a clear path to the post season this season... Adding both may be, but one's a long shot, the other's a peyote fueled pipe dream....

It's not so bad. I'm more optimistic than I have been in years. We've got lots of young budding talent. Just need a little time to grow and add some more pieces. Rome wasn't built in a day.

we should not be one of the worst teams in the league. our talent level is above that. luke needs to go. the fact that randle doesnt play more and kcp gets more mins than hart is absurd.
Warspite:

Prince + filler for Kobe Bryant
To be honest the way Prince has played and with Kobes injury/age/mileage Im not sure I would do that deal either. Still Prince is more important and he wins the head to head battles with Kobe.

Bad enough to fire your coach when utterly awful teams such as the Kings, Suns and soon the Grizzlies and Mavericks have more Ws than you.

This is impossible to answer because we are a young team who are likely gutting our roster in 6 months.

We have KCP, Bogut, Lopez, and Brewer --- they're gone. Julius? We may let him walk. That's 5 guys in your rotation.

I feel like the only thing that we as fans can answer is, we're bad enough to miss the playoffs.

Which teams do you think the lakers have more talent than? Personally, I see a roster reliant on rookies and 2nd year players, and a bunch of mediocre vets. I don’t think they have a single player who would be considered an above average starter.

Which is probably Randle's best practice of the year.

I believe Ingram and Kuzma are above average starters. Lopez has been (albeit in different systems) and above average starter as well.

I do believe we have an issue with complete and NBA ready players as you point out but not that that extent.

We're a bunch of young talent/potential with some low level vets being coached by a very inexperienced coach with a team of rookies making the decisions in the FO. Yay us.....
