I fear the MJ plan is "one more year" to get back to the playoffs or blow it up. Cho must redeem himself. A significant trade and signings are necessary.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Giving Cho one more year to get his ish together.
Other teams with minimal talent without a bonafide superstar like Toronto & Boston have improved while we've taken one step forward one season to take one step backwards the following season the past 5 years.

Re: NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread
Honestly, it's basically nothing. Certainly not much of a sign of confidence in Cho. Executives and coaches seldom live out their contracts, nearly all end in termination. I've seen it stated that you can basically subtract one year from the total years on a GM deal and get the true length of the contract.
Basically, it's just not ideal to have a GM leave on an expiring contract and have to search for a replacement right before the busiest period if the year for GMs. So the options at this point are basically exercise the option for one year or offer him an extension.
If they were really confident in him moving forward, he would've gotten the latter. To me what this says is that he's gonna have full control over this offseason and have a chance to recover from a down year. If the team struggles, I doubt he makes it through the year, as they'll want to find his replacement sooner rather than later.

I doubt MJ gives anyone full control but we shall see. Cho better hit a grand slam with this pick no matter how it goes down.

Re: NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread
That's pretty cool. I once saw Cho at the Cajan Yard Dog at the Arboretum. He was with (I'm assuming) his family and some colleagues, there were like a dozen people at his table so I didn't bother. This was sometime before the draft lottery in the Cody Zeller draft and I was thinking about asking him possibly the dumbest question... if we got the number one pick, who would you take: Noel or McLemore? Obviously he wouldn't have given me an answer but in his head he would have probably thought "ummmm neither you idiot"

Re: NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread
whenever we play a team like GS or BOS or MIL, teams that smother us with their length and athleticism, I come away with the same question: what is a CHA player?
where those other teams seem to draft/sign long, athletic, two-way players, our guys seem like a mish-mash of types.
seems to me this team signs players to fit in Cliff's system, instead of players who are a type.
or, maybe we have a type, its just not the right type?
on our roster, Dwight, MKG, MCW, Batum, Lamb, all these guys would have looked way better in 2005.
I know over the years people have joked that Cho's type is a midwestern C who he wants to turn into a stretch 4, but I struggle with the question, what is a CHA player, what is Cho's type of player, and how can we get more modern players?

Re: NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread
What is CHA player? Someone that has nice advanced stats in college but plateaus hard in the NBA due to position/physical limitations.
What is Cho's type of player? A really young, raw player with good length/athleticism that could be developed into something nice if you didn't have the worst development coaches in the NBA.
How can we get more modern players? Lock MJ in his office on draft night and fire all the scouts and assistant coaches involved with development.

Although I wish him well with his health I think we’re previewing the end of Clifford’s era as head coach. I can see him resigning or something.
But with that said I seriously doubt Cho don’t get fired after this season.

A CHA type of player is a player to me is someone that is playing with a leash on them, so don't expect any 360 dunks, ankle breakers, super super clutch moments night in night out. More so an old school type basketball with guys that get along. As far as physical and skill attribute, just any tall white guy or guys that can't shoot coming out of college when you got average guys like my self who play recreationally that has good mechanics because I don't have horrible development guys showing me outdated shooting mechanics.
What's needed of cho is to scout modern players that naturally has shooting mechanics down and dribble moves learn in from grade school. The kids these days are doing nba moves already and can shoot effortless from middle school to highschool. So look for guys in college that can handle the ball like kemba, shoot like curry, and just hire coaches to teach them how to fine tune their feel of the game and mental toughness. We don't need a player coming from college needing a shooting coach for 2 years and get nothing. Monk and bacon is our modern type players that can really "ball" that has those skills down already just need experience and fine tune their decision making.

Re: NBA ChoK16 - the Rich Cho Thread
Cho is a prime example of the insanity in doing the same thing over and over expecting a different result. I seriously doubt Cho make it into 2018 summer employed as the Hornets GM unless we somehow make the playoffs as currently constructed or swing a trade that send the team on a magical run post ASB. All of the excuses from injuries and etc is overplayed now 5+ years in.
The new GM will blow the team up somehow whether that’s trading Kemba or trading everyone around Kemba. Something’s gotta give.

Let’s not forget that Cho drafted Cody to be a stretch 4 and compared him to Lamarcus Aldridge. His scouting evaluation of Cody alone should get him fired. That shows that he has no clue lol. Cody has shot a total of 14 threes in 5 years haha.

I didn’t know this was Cho’s final year of his contract.

Cho said the NBA player Zeller reminds him of most is Portland Trail Blazer LaMarcus Aldridge….
“He’s a pretty unique player with his size – a legit 7-foot – and he can run as well as any 7-footer out there. He can hit a perimeter shot; 18-20 feet and out beyond the arc. He has a very, very high basketball IQ.”
Just posting this for anybody that thought Catch was exaggerating.

Who remember when Cho planned to use the OKC model to build this team? Lol. Did he fail or nah?
Who remember when Cho told us that he’s revamping the entire scouting system and was putting together the most advanced scouting base in the league?

I remember that stuff. Cho sold MJ and everything be on the same BS. He didn’t invent advanced scouting metrics analysis, and he sure hasn’t demonstrated his “program”is successful. These guys are privy to tons of information, workouts, film, etc. Yet MY picks (had they all been used) would have rendered more hits than misses. Cho’s best work has been in trades, but not all have gone well.
Cho, time to go. Seriously.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
