I know you love Whiteside. But he is around 8th in usage rate among starting C’s. In front of KAT, Jokic, Kanter, Turner, Drummond, Kanter at about 24%. The last team this needs is for a guy who passes the ball 17 times a game when 10 of those are after defensive rebounds to have a higher usage. His usage is fine. One can argue it's higher than it should be.

Whiteside is 42nd in touches-per-game among C.

He barely touches the ball for a player of his caliber. Alot of this is because he is playing with below average playmaking guards.

or maybe because he's not the greatest passer and decision makeer.

Anyways, 17 games is not a representative sample size

Heat guards are terrible at finding Whiteside in the right spots. We have below average playmaking guards. Dragic and Waiters (Heat 2 main ball handlers) 55th and 36th in their positions respectively in AST/TO. Both are mediocre in ORPM in general.

Whiteside would thrive if you gave him decent, cerebral playmaking guards with good vision.

Whiteside would thrive if you gave better playmaking G. All of the C that get more touches than Whiteside for the most part have Gs that are better at finding their Cs in the right spot than the Heat.

I guess that's the reason why Hassan was 2nd in paint touches behind Howard last season
