Game Thread: Blazers @ Hawks -- 12/30

Final Hawks game of the calendar year:

Read on Twitter

Hawks try to slow down Lillard, McCollum vs. Blazers

The Atlanta Hawks will look for a way to slow down two players who have been troublesome to them -- and do it on short rest.

The Hawks, who lost at Toronto on Friday, will have a rough back-to-back when they host the Portland Trail Blazers (18-16) on Saturday at Philips Arena. Atlanta (9-26) will be tested defensively by Portland guards Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum, who both averaged 24 points in two games against the Hawks last season.

Lillard remains questionable. He has missed the last three games with a strained right hamstring, but is expected to play against the Hawks.

Lillard's replacement in the starting lineup Thursday was Shabazz Napier, who scored 23 points against the Sixers, and has topped 20 in back-to-back games.

Atlanta did get center Dewayne Dedmon back on the active roster Friday, although he did not play. Dedmon has been out since Nov. 25 with a left tibia stress fracture.
"Getting back on the court is a good feeling," Dedmon said. "I've been counting down the days."
Portland and Atlanta split the two-game series last year, with each winning on the other's home court.

NBA schedule once again handicaps us, forcing us to play in Toronto before coming back home for a back to back. Normally I'd be angry but hey, when you're tanking stuff like this becomes a blessing in disguise.

As for the matchup, if Lillard does play then I'd like to see Bazemore and Prince guarding Dame and McCollum on the perimeter. Hide Dennis on Evan Turner, because either Dame or CJ can easily go off for 30 if they're being guarded by Schroder.

A win at home to bring in the New Year would be nice to get, then after this game the boys can go on a losing streak on the upcoming road trip. It's gonna be a treat for me personally to watch Nurkic play live, as it always is. I'll of course be rooting for the Hawks but deep down I'll be happy whenever he makes a play.

Hawks now have 9 wins. Our nearest rival has 11, so it's OK if we win again!
Maybe tonight. If not, then maybe on the road.

Great 2nd half by Simon Phoenix.

Looks like the city of Atlanta contracted McCollum to build a replica of Chukingham Palace downtown with all them brix.

Crazy strong team win for us tonight!! I know we are supposed to drop games but the Mavs and Bulls are winning so why not pick up some ourselves. We are starting to see some chemistry between some of our key guys. Great takeover by Dennis! That one tricky dribble on Nurkic was sick. Strong performance again by Prince. Collins kept a lot of balls alive tonight. Tyler Cav makes me wanna watch Rudy again this weekend and we SHOULD get some nice assets for Belli and Ers. Belli might be a top 5 pure shooter in the league. He's becoming as big a threat as Korver in 2014...lol..close to that it seems anyways.

GO HAWKS!!!!

You've always hated CJ just admit it! Leave him alone he did nothing to you! :P

18 pts on 21 shots when the team needed a plus performance in Lillard's absence? Blech.

And I don't hate Chuk. I'm just against on-rim violence. What'd those rims do to deserve the physical beating they took? Huh? I ask you!

:D

HAPPY NEW YEARS ! Now, that's the way to end 2017. A win in front of the home folks before they start
the 2018 year on the road for five games.

Cavanaugh played tonight. Some fans were very critical of the brain thrust of the Hawks when they signed
him to a regular NBA contract. Seems, in their opinion, he didn't deserve it. Oh, well. I like him, whether
any one else does or not. I don't expect him to be great, an all star, or anything like that. However, Hawks
will usually have 12 active players and someone has to fill all those slots.

10 victories in 2017. Still on the bottom. It's going to be hard to stay on the bottom. This new tank we're riding
seems to have sprung a leak.

We want the top draft pick, or close to it. Cleveland in line to grab one of them. Question: Whose first round
pick do they have? I want to root for that team to win and win and win and fall out of the lottery! Please tell
me which team I'm supposed to root for to make this happen... PLEASE !!

GO ATLANT FALCONS !!

What a win to end 2017. So much in this game:
1. Belli trying two dunk attempts  Bob Rathbun finally jinxed Beli at the free throw line, 33 straight streak ended.
2. The hustle and shooting of Ty-C, hey mac-d.
3. Baze nearly taking out the Hawks photographer then hugging him, followed by JC kissing him on the head. Base with the emphatic dunk.
4. At the start of the 4th quarter TP and Dennis jamming on the bench to Sir Foster playing Michael Jackson.
5. Dennis with the tricky dribble, and just taking over the game. The look on John Collins face from the fake pass was priceless :D
6. Plumlee is not dead
7. Bud figuring out that Delaney isn't a PG but a SG, his defense is not half bad.
8. TP's 3 ball is money
9. The kid in the Rip City Jersey but waving the Hawks t-shirt when they score - poor confused kid, c'mon Mom and Dad.
10. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Whenever the Hawks beat a team that team's fan base goes into nuclear meltdown mode. Really amusing to see lol.

You guys won it in 2011? Such a quiet championship I forgot it happened.
