Which of the Nuggets' Young Players is "The Leader"

Post#1 » by NuggetsWY » Sat Dec 30, 2017 9:29 pm

Jokic - (Cornelie?)
Lyles - Hernangomez
Craig - ???
Harris - Beasley
Murray - Mudiay - Morris

A nice looking future team, if they all develop as expected and if the Nuggets can find a way to keep them all together.

But who's the leader?

Malone said Jokic was the leader. Can he be the leader if he lets the other players get him ruffled and if he is arguing with the refs? Some of the greats do it, but that might not be the best approach. Plus he likes to defer to other players on the court. That comes from his love of making passes, but most leaders need to assert themselves shooting-wise, at least in the NBA.

Plumlee has supposedly stepped up his game at being a leader, but it seems clear he's a bench-type so more of a secondary leader.

Millsap's a "little talk" leader. He leads more by example with some directions given to teammates.

Harris is quite. So is Mudiay. Beasley & Murray might be leader types. Murray's getting a chance to show it, but he's only 20 years old and not everyone responds well to that.

Craig seems like a leader type, if he asserts himself and earns some respect.

What about Morris? He's more of a true PG that can play some SG. But the PG in him makes him somewhat of a leader.

I just don't think the Nuggets have their leader yet, or at least he isn't able to assert himself yet.

Harris, Murray, and Jokic have all shown come capabilities, but it is unfair to ask anybody in their 1st 3 years to be a leader of a team where it certainly does not seem to have a coach that seems more more concerned with controlling everything.

None of them are , maybe I have Harris little bit more evolved than others in the leadership role, but its not enough.

Jefferson and Arthur are mentors & leaders off the court. In the rotation, there is not a strong voice. Millsap was supposed to really fill that void.

Yes, but Millsap is somewhat quiet. A good leader type no doubt, but he's not one to start telling people what to do.

Yeah, they could really use a "Mike" linebacker type to help orchestrate the team defense.
