All star centers should be able to bring down 10. Hope he gets there.

Fun fact
Ewing didn't average 10 boards until he was 27

Surprisingly, not really
Unless BBall reference is wrong, our pace was actually faster during Ewing's first 5 seasons than KP's first 3
98.5, 98.6, 99.1, 104.4 (!), and 98.2, then it goes down to low 90s high 80s during the 1990s
vs 93.4, 96.0, and 96.1 for KP
Plus, Ewing played exclusively 5, whereas KP is almost always at the 4, so he's further away from the basket (why Ewing's ORB numbers are so much better compared to the difference in DRB). I think instead of looking at raw rebounding numbers, we should look at Reb%, and KP's Dreb% is only 2% worse than Ewing's (18% to 20%), but there's a much larger relative gap in Orb% (5% for KP to 8% for Ewing). Also we have to consider that next year, KP will be the same age as Ewing was his rookie year, so he still has some filling out to do
Not saying KP will become the same player as Ewing, just noting some similarities in what people complain about with KP to what Ewing did his first few years. Also, Ewing only played 113 games his first 2 years compared to KP's 138

This is the kid who KP took off his jersey for

In related news:
Young New York Knicks fan, Charles Jones, the recent recipient of a Kristaps Porzingis jersey, has petitioned the courts, over his parents objections, to legally change his name to "KPStan Forever".

Wow.
Thought without looking at stats:
Knicks were still somewhat uptempo Ewings first few seasons (the full Riley\JVG thing hadn't happened yet) and this Knicks team is a little slow on pace compared to the rest of the league currently.

Dirk showing the love. I guess the Mavs were at the same hotel as the NYC beat writers and hadn't left yet

Rick Pitino and the bomb squad...they liked to pressure and push the pace
I think Bill Cartwright also started a bunch of games next to Ewing, and Ewing may have technically been the PF in those lineups
Mavs

KP isn't a center but, I agree with you about his rebounding numbers.

He’s not a PF. He can’t guard stretch 4s on the perimeter.
He needs to get stronger and be ready to play Center. That’s where he will have all the mismatches.

Yeah, but everybody was shooting 2pters which don't bounce far from the basket and Cs could camp in the paint longer. Lastly, if you were a bigman youd be scolded for venturing past about 18 ft. So you can't use that logic.
KP starts about 40% of his offense past 15ft and then darts in as the ball is shot. I'm not about to say whether that's right or wrong but I'd assume the best rebounder stay close to the basket all game. It's why no one question Draymond Greens rebounding because he's always out on the perimeter.

Re: Porzingis thread #4: The KP era is upon us
I know I'll get flamed for this but, to be honest, KP hasn't been playing at an allstar level. He started the season out like YEAH, I 'm a lock but, after those high scoring games in the beginning of the season, dude since he's tailed off. I voted for him but, even as I did so, I honestly don't feel like he's there.

You don't feel it because he has been bad lately. If he would've had his bad stretch at the beginning of the season, and that amazing stretch of 30point games now, everyone would be feeling fine on voting him in.
You need to look at the whole picture.
