The problem with firing Turgeon is that his contract goes through 2022-23. I don't know if there is a buyout clause and Maryland is not in the financial situation to eat five years of a contract. They also need a permanent athletic director.

He hasn't lost enough games to be fired.
Not yet.
This season they had a really bad loss against St. Bonaventure. On the other hand, their beginning of the season win over Butler is looking pretty good now, since Butler just took out Villanova.
The pressure will lead to be on or off after this game against Michigan State. I'm expecting the Terrapins to get throttled by at least 20 points.
I had no idea that Turgeon had signed such a long-term contract. He's probably not going anywhere anytime soon. The fans are going sour on him though.

That gives a big opportunity for raw Josh Tomaic - first player from the Canary Islands to play for a top 25 NCAA team - yes, Maryland was that top 25 team - though you wouldn't know it from the negative talk here. He looks like he actually has some offensive ability. Look for disappointing Jared Nickens to play smallball PF, and MD could go to 4 guard lineups to get their best players in there. Luckily, Huerter, Cowen, and Morsell are good rebounding guards - they'll need that quality from them. Huerter's had 2 double-digit rebounding games this season. Huerter and Cowen have been MD's best overall players this season. Bruno's got to be that guy for the rest of the season, imo.

Have you watched this team this year? They are averaging over 16 turnovers per game. The win over Butler was a good one, but that's it. I don't know how they beat Illinois on the road but they found a way. Nothing against Tomaic, who is raw on the defensive end but Huerter and Cowan are not enough to overcome not only their lack of depth but athletic talent. Nickens has been dreadful for two years and Wiley is just not good. Turgeon isn't a bad coach but he's not creative either. He rarely presses (can't now) and he has no back up point guard for Cowan after losing Trimble and Brantley. Next year might be different with an outstanding class coming in but I'm a realist, not a cheerleader.

I HATE... posts that start the way you started your post. People here that post on a regular basis because they - at minimum - watch the games. You're basically calling people (me in this case) an idiot. Anyway, 16 turnovers a game isn't a reason to go balistic. The Terps have done worse - and I'd be willing to bet they did several times in the Gary Williams era. And where do you get that I was acting like a cheerleader? Read my previous post - I said they were done when the news of Jackson's injury came out. I've said many times in the Turgeon era that the Terps need to run more - and I obviously agree with you that they should press more. I'm also a realist - keeping in mind that there are now 350 or so NCAA division 1 basketball programs competing for dollars - It's a very different situation than when Lefty Driesell was coaching. As a fan, I'm going to keep being realistic while finding enjoyment and hope when the team plays well.

13-3 overall. Good W vs. Penn State
That is a quality win. I'm sorry that I don't get the Big Ten Network so I didn't watch it.
Looking at the stat lines: Bruno Fernando is a goner. He will be an NBA 1st round pick.
I wonder how good this guy (edited) MICHAEL Watkins is on Penn State?

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
Really good that they didn't have many turnovers.
Huerter 9-9 FTs
One thing this Maryland team does do well is defend. They don't allow opponents to score very many points.
Perhaps they can get Michigan State a game on Thursday. Ruzious, I will make an effort to be more positive about this Terrapin team.
They appear to be playing up to their talent level.

Watkins is a player, played a solid game tonight
Fernando is getting better every game it seems. Good for the Terps conference hopes... but bad for retaining him.

Bruno's a better prospect than Diamond Stone. Too bad Stone never put the work in to get himself into shape. I said Bruno's got to become MD's best player, and he showed it - starting at PF last night. Morsell... just hope he develops a jump shot - but he is a versatile defender. MD got to the line a lot, but I didn't think the officials gave them a lot of calls that weren't legit, and PSU got the benefit of several shakey out of bounds calls that offset the foul calls, imo.

President Donald Trump referred to African countries, Haiti and El Salvador as "shithole" nations during a meeting Thursday and asked why the U.S. can't have more immigrants from Norway.

Bruno is as good a big man prospect that Maryland has had since Joe Smith. Unfortunately, Joe Smith left in two seasons and well, Fernando will likely leave after this one. I didn't know he could put the ball down and drive or face the basket.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
Nice win against Penn State. Fernando was just awesome. Now looking ahead, I think that Md will probably need to be better than .500 in the Big 10. It's a weak league. Maryland is 56 in the RPI with a win over Butler. They don't have another win over a team in the top 100. They do have two wins over Illinois (105) and Penn State (122). That's not enough and if they can't beat a Michigan State or Purdue (not realistic), they will need to beat 41 Michigan, 47 Ohio State, 60 Minnesota, 76 Nebraska and 91 Northwestern to get in. At least Michigan or Ohio State to get one more top 50 win and the others to get top 100 wins.

A win over #1 ranked Michigan State tonight would help.

Nobody talks about him, but Kevin Huerter is a legit NBA prospect, imo. He's got deep NBA 3 point range, good size for the 2 and defends well. Needs to add strength and some swag.
Kevin Huerter does not strike me as an NBA player. He's not quick. He's not strong. I just don't see it.
Bruno Fernando and Darryl Morsell are much better prospects.
I hope to be proven wrong.

Remember when I posted this above?
Forget that s*** I was wrong.
Looking at Maryland playing Michigan State right now... The score is 27 to 26 Maryland. Kevin huerter already has 14 points. There are 7 minutes left in the first half.
I would say that Kevin Huerter is proving me to be very wrong so far.

Really horrible officiating. That second foul on Fernando is the agenda of a referee who is cheating for Michigan State.

Rough game. Maryland was overmatched, but hopefully some of the MD players learned that competing takes more effort than they gave last night.

Re: Official Maryland Terps Thread 3.0
No real shocker about Michigan State. That was a very impressive performance by a great team. Md wasn't bad but just couldn't hang.
As for what CCJ said about Morsell beinga pro prospect over Huerter? No. He is a terrible outside shooter right now. Maybe in 2-3 years. Huerter is a 3-4 year guy, who does need to get stronger. But he can flat out shoot it with incredible range and is a good passer. Kind of like a less athletic Sato, better pure shooter. Not a point guard but playing with Cowan, isn't always the greatest thing for a wing because AC is not a great or willling passer.
