Get them cheap and young, sell high when they hit their primes. Seems to be the motto every year. Not sure how we can ever truly compete when the ownership group only cares about the bottom line.

Lemar & Mahrez are rumored to be the targets (by the club) to replace Phil. Who do you prefer?

Well.....looks like the move is done.

I've grown incredibly frustrated watching players see greener pastures and move on, but it's only fair to point out that 95% of those players jumped up to our pastures first, so I get it. Looks like we're getting some good $$ for him.

Look forward to some good signings.....shoring up the defense, and hopefully not missing him.

It's a process, but we need to continue qualifying for the CL....and win a f***ing league title every now and then! Will go a long way in making us a more desirable destination. I've been to Liverpool. It's not London, or Paris, or Barca. But winning will go a long way.

When Madrid & Barcelona come calling, there's not a whole lot you can do, when a player like Suarez & now Phil wants to go. Even a club like United couldn't keep Ronaldo in his prime.

Liverpool just have to keep building with Klopp. Become a club that competes in the CL every year. Less players will want to leave.

Great read!

https://www.theringer.com/2018/1/6/16856622/soccer-transfers-philippe-coutinho-fc-barcelona-liverpool-jurgen-klopp

The team is currently in fourth in the Premier League, but the underlying metrics suggest that they’re even better: FiveThirtyEight rates them as not just the second-best team in England, but the best team in the world outside of Barça, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, PSG, Real Madrid, and Juventus.

The team’s biggest weakness is a defense that concedes the third-fewest shots of any team in Europe but has somehow still allowed more goals than five teams in England. However, the club addressed that issue head on and just broke the world record for a defender in acquiring Virgil van Dijk from Southampton for £75 million. With the Dutch international in tow, the second half of the year promised something special.

Thanks to their ability to reinvest the money in multiple positions and with a front office that’s been close-to-perfect in player acquisition over the past few transfer windows, Liverpool might even be better off in the long term, but they won’t be getting any better this season. Somehow, you can say the same thing about Barcelona.

Interesting article. Seeing as Barca are up 14 points....you do kinda wonder why they were so desperate right now? You'd wonder why Philippe was so desperate to get there now as well...seeing as he won't be able to play CL with them.

I guess it doesn't really matter. It is what it is.

It appears that it was Phil's side that really pushed things. He even sacrificed 13 million as part of the deal. Likely due to the weather lol. Hispanic players prefer to play in sunny Spain. Can't really blame him.

Nope =0)

Went to the Liverpool game Feb 24th, 2007 (Still remember it well.....little bit of fuzz creeping in. I blame all the alcohol between now and then!) and I remember walking back, and meeting up with friends...and getting back to the train station to head down to London. It was just starting to get dark when we left....and oh-my-god was it getting cold. It was unreal.

Exactly 3 days later, we were in Barcelona for a week. Shorts and T every day. Renting bikes....hanging at beach.

"Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool had "no other option" but to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona after it became clear there was "no chance" the Brazilian could play for the Reds in the second half of the season." <------- interesting little read on soccernet. No big secrets....Coutinho was done playing for us...and we had to move on.

A) All this is fine. But why are we still talking about it? Deal is done....we gotta move on.
B) NO EXCUSES!! Go out there and beat freakin Man-City. No hangovers. No getting drubbed 4-0 and complaining.

Another article:

""Liverpool could be set to crack open the Philippe Coutinho piggy bank and reinvest some of the £142 million raised from the Brazilian's exit in Stoke goalkeeper Jack Butland.

According to the Daily Star, Jurgen Klopp is eyeing Butland as a potential upgrade on current number one Simon Mignolet, who came under fire for his performance in the 3-3 draw at Arsenal before Christmas.

There are also doubts surrounding Loris Karius' long-term future at Anfield, with the German failing to dislodge Mignolet after an error-strewn run in the team last season.

Butland, 24, is believed to have ambitious plans for his career and would be a more affordable target than alternatives such as Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel and Atletico Madrid's Jan Oblak.""

All seemed fine right up to the last paragraph. Not really interested in the "cheap guy". To be fair...I know nothing about Butland. I was really disappointed with Karius. Think the bright lights were too much, or something.

It must be a little weird being in Mignolet's shoes. Imagine going to work every day KNOWING your boss thinks your sh** at your job, and is on the phone every day looking for your replacement. He's even brought in a guy or two....but they turned out to be worse than you. So you sit at your job everyday plugging away, just waiting for someone to walk through the door who's better than you.

I call that last paragraph "Tears for the millionaire"

Would be great. I'd welcome fresh blood, and someone to help plug the hole left....physically and mentally.

Prefer they spend big on the Brazilian Keeper Allison.

The English media. It will continue to be talked about until we bring someone in. Pretty typical.

24-hour cycle. Will be the death of us all. I'm dating myself....but I remember when you watched a sporting event, talked about how amazing (or crappy) so and so was for 10 minutes....and then it was on to the next thing.

Off topic, but my boys had a nice win against SA last night. Young squad, and we'll have highs and lows....but it was nice to see.

Very curious to see what eventually happens with Randle. Good player...bad fit. Seems a shame to just let him walk.

The English media is about as toxic as it gets in this regard.

You get articles about Harry Kane's potential fit with Real Madrid or his candidacy as a 'galactico' every time he plays well, when he's made no indication of wanting to leave. I expect that from Marca, but not BBC Sport. It's like they're begging the Premier League's top players to leave so it makes a big scoop.

People still think we're a selling club even though we haven't sold a major player since Bale, lol.
