Spencer Dinwiddie

Post#1 » by Jcrawfordcross » Sat Jan 6, 2018 7:23 pm

He's been playing really well and for sure thought he would be out of the league. I saw him play for the Bulls in preseason and summer league and he was AWFUL. Like holy cow that torn ACL must have really messed with his mental. Not sure if he makes the same impact on any other team but that's supposedly Kenny Atkinson's calling card, development. Dangelo Russell and Jeremy Lin being out obviously made him their PG by default but he's done a tremendous job and I'm not trying to discount anything.

Given that he couldn't outplay Steve Blake, he definitely should have been cut. I can't remember if Stan drafted the guy but I remember him shipping him off so he could get some more playing time/chance to develop right? I guess my question is, why couldn't we have just throw him in our D League and develop him ourselves if we saw something? Or was SVG just looking out for the guy? Or do we just do a really really bad job at developing our players? My guess is the latter.....

Nah Stanley is a gump. He looked good in high school and college because he played bully ball where he was bigger and more physical than everyone. Once you hit the nba that style of play doesnt work because everybody is just as big and physical. He solid on D but yeah I just dont think the skills are there. His drives are so ugly he just has that gump game.

He'd of made a great nfl TE.

spencer just didnt fit this system so hes at a place where his game fits. i think the same will happen if we were to trade stanley we'll see him putting points up on another team.

If I remember correctly, he wasn’t happy being 3rd string.

I always liked him as a prospect, he just couldn’t produce consistently here, probably due to a lack of a consistent role.

Not that it matters much, but I remember Caron Butler absolutely raving about the kid when he was a rookie, saying stuff like “he can do everything” and that “it’s only a matter of time” for him.

Also, Spencer’s a fellow Dragon Ball Z nerd, so I always thought that was cool lol.

I'm happy Spencer has been able to carve out a career so far in the NBA. He seemed to be doomed for Europe/d-league based on his Pistons stint. I'm not worried about letting him go though and let's not pretend he is a game changer or anything. He is probably the equivalent talent of Ish Smith (not playing styles, just talent level).

i'm happy for dinwiddie, i liked him coming out of the draft and was disappointed he played so poorly here.

i remember in his second year he was joking around during summer league and said something along the lines of "SJ out here playing for playing time, darrun and i are second rounders, we're just trying to stay in the league". looks like he's well on his way to staying in the league for a decent contract.

Don't worry, you're not the only team kicking themselves. Everyone really liked him when he played for us but we let him go because we preferred MCW and Payne (lol).

Killed it again tonight. Almost pulled the upset vs the raps in OT. A 31 8A 5R 2steal line. Guys a beast.

well you can't even outplay Steve Blake who literally shouldn't have been on any NBA roster, its not a hard decision to make. If you look at the history of players who struggled with their jump shot, not many "Take that leap".

I am pretty sure that if Lin and DR were healthy SD wouldn't have gotten this shot.

I am glad he finally is showing out though. Huge drop off coming out of college that couldn't be explained

"“I didn’t just wake up a month ago, like, ‘Hey, I can play basketball really good now, guys!’” Dinwiddie says of his surprising success. “It took the coaching staff’s belief in me. They didn’t go find a vet or sign another guy. That’s what’s producing this.”

In other words... they didn't "VanGundy me"

Anybody could see he was a smart and capable player that needed to get back strong, and be given confidence.

Can't wait to see the next smart capable defensive 2 way player we "VanGundy" for a vet with a 40% 3 pt shooting percentage and subpar defense.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

“My rookie year, I had some big games against John Wall and Derrick Rose,” Dinwiddie remembered. “Those were plenty of validation back then—I was only 10 months removed from a catastrophic injury and I was 21. There were times when I would have a big game and then, if I followed it up by an ehhh game, then I was benched.”
