I just don't see Verge being anywhere near in the same category as Monero, Pivx, Zcoin, etc. Fine for an average user, but it is no where near the same tech as the true anonymous coins.
Peoples lives can be at stake (in certain countries) with anonymous cryptos and I see Verge as dangerous in this regard.
So, what did I miss, why is Verge so good?

Not disagreeing with Monero, PIVX, ZCOIN being better but the fud levels and fake news element coming for Verge is beyond reprehensible. The same bunch of nonsense already started coming for Tron and Ripple as well.

They want to shake newbie weak hands and have done it effectively.

Nice.

Well said and worth repeating.

Stay SAFE with Crypto

1. Get a Trezor or Ledger and back up your recovery seeds. Keep one at your parents house or the like (in case of fire).
2. Bookmark all links you use and don't do searches as a normal way of going to sites you frequent (fishing attempts).
3. Use a password manager (with long passwords) on exchanges
4. Use Google 2 factor authentication on exchanges and where ever you can. Back up the seed should you lose your phone. (Avoids delays.)
5. Be careful of scam ICO's and coins. Do your DD. We are close to entering something that you will not believe. We will make it through the bubble but there will be man casualties. The Crypto market cap is 3/4 of a billion. We are hitting 1 trillion in the next month or two and then I expect trillions over time. With LOTS OF VOLATILITY. Buy and hold the winners.
6. Do not open email links regarding crypto. Always use your bookmarked links and even then be careful of fishing attacks.
7. These are not stocks, don't treat them as such. You are managing your money (hopefully, and not keeping them on exchanges), so you become the bank. You are now the target.
8. Backup your data multiple times and on different types of media.
9. Use paper wallets if you can't get a Ledger/Trezor or if your coin doesn't have a good wallet. Multiple backups.

Feel free to add to this safety list.

I've been thinking about this today in relation to the whole crypto scene. Being that I've spent hours researching wallets and storing coins safely, I realize just how complicated it is for the casual person. In America, I don't think people distrust banks. When is the last time you worried about your money being in a bank? I know I never do. I actually trust the bank more than I trust myself to hold a piece of paper that has my life savings on it. I think I would always be freaking out if I had that kind of responsibility. I'd rather trust the bank.

Now, I understand that there are countries where the government and big institutions are less trustworthy, but America is a pretty big market. I think there's a chance that crypto never achieves mass adoption here if the security aspect doesn't improve. And I don't see how it ever can because at the end of the day, the whole point of crypto is that you are the bank. I don't want that responsibility.

I don't disagree, most people don't distrust banks. But most people don't understand banking. This guy understood:
"“I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies.”
― Thomas Jefferson"
I wonder what Jefferson saw.

We are very very early in the crypto game. Many of you on this thread are early adopters and a few I see are the innovators. This is the year it starts going mainstream.

You guys who were around in the 90's, do you remember those AOL cd's that were everywhere? I do and I didn't get it. I was a computer expert and didn't know why anyone would need a cd to connect to the internet, you just had to fill out a form on some software. But, most people are not experts, as you have implied. So my point...

The risk to rewards are high for a reason. We are not exactly ready for mainstream, not interface wise nor is the tech. (i.e. Most people can't manage their own crypto - they will leave it on an exchange and most cryptos can't handle the transaction throughput.)

Yeah, it is definitely early in the game. Like being on the internet in 95. High risk, but higher reward. That's my style. That's why I wish I had gotten in this a few years ago. But as you said, still early.

From what I can gather, Verge is basically an older version/fork of Bitcoin (more similar to Doge) that is running over Tor. You can do that with any crypto from your desktop or phone.

Wraith allows your tx's to be public or private. But it is just stealth addresses, rebranded.
Verge is a combination of IP obfuscation (via TOR) and stealth addresses.

Agreed Verge is riding on Hype....NAV on the other hand is under hyped and undervalued IMO.

I concur, dropped 10k on NAV let's see how it goes

Not sure what the problem is, just make sure to follow their rules regarding format (e.g. jpg, pdf, etc.), clarity, etc.
I strongly suggest to just try to get in to as many exchanges as possible. Bittrex and Binance have suspended new accounts, but not Kucoin (and they look to be good. But no FIAT in the preceding I think.)

You can try to join Stamp and Kraken (they are having load problems for a while now though.)

I've been using KUCOIN and have been happy with everything thus far. If you want a referral, I can PM you my link - never done that before.

If any of you are looking to get into "mid caps" here I want to again stress ICON. It is S. Korea's answer to the blockchain space with regards to platforms (e.g. ETH, NEO, QTM, ADA, EOS sort of, etc.) but has an interesting take/focus on interoperability, and gives different areas/institutions their own blockchains (e.g. Medical can interact with X.) VERY GOOD TECH. Incredibly smart team from some of S. Koreas best universities. And if you know anything about S. Korean culture, that is saying a lot.

Their main net will be live on the 24th of this month and around that time be available on the #2 exchange their, which is owned by the parent company. They have a ton of great partnerships and THE BACKING OF THE GOVERNMENT. S. Koreans are CRAZY about their tech.

Current price of $8 or so, but I honestly expect a $50 price this year. I would not be shocked at a much higher evaluation though. Great short and long term play here. Do your research.

I opened a Kucoin account, and will probably use them mostly, but my understanding is I can only buy using BitC, Ether, or LTC.

Love the ability to earn income from buying Kucoin Shares regularly. The people behind the exchange seem talented and it's a platform already running and gaining lots of interest. Also the fees are really good on transactions

Are you saying I can buy those coins on Kucoin using USD?

I'm new, but the videos I watched suggested Coinbase to buy BitC, Ether, or LTC, then use an exchange to but ALT

I need to get me a wallet. Anyone have any experience with Electrum

I'm in the same boat as both bigfnjoe and knickstape. It's very frustrating right now.
I just missed out on getting in to binance as I was hoping to buy ICON. Waiting patiently for it to reopen but it's not easy.
I've been using kucoin and like it a lot. They have some good coins which I think will go up significantly in value.
My issue now is that I can only buy on coin base and I have used the limit on my credit card for the week. I first bought some btc and sent it to kucoin with no issues and bought some POE. Then I went back to coin base and finished my weekly limit on my cc and bought ETH as I read that it was better so I thought I would give it a try. The problem is now coin base won't let me transfer the ETH as it says I need my ID verified and the process seems to be backed up. Btc doesn't have that issue but it didn't say anywhere that you needed an ID to transfer ETH. So, now I am stuck and can't buy anything else until either they approve my ID or I have to wait a few days until my limits open up a bit.
It's very frustrating to say the least.

It's weird. My son-in-law jumped in on Thursday. Coinbase verified him on Friday. He's good to go, yet I'm still getting the run around on verification

Someone give me a legit guide on how to do this. I would love to make some extra money just swinging cryptocurrency but I don't even know where to really begin.

I just don't see how other cryptocurrency can really blow up in price like Bitcoin because they would need the same publicity as bitcoin and that really ain't gonna happen in my opinion.

I would use Kucoin to buy alts, once you have Bitcoin or LTC or any coin you can buy elsewhere for cash. I don't think you can go from Fiat to crypto on Kucoin. Try to open an account on Bitstamp. Check for others as well.
