Ray_Dogg wrote:Route tree isn’t a problem for Ridley. He is a route running talent. Precision in and out. His problem was a lack of volume being in that offense and with the QBs they trot out.
I like him but he just isn’t what I want added to our offense at this point in time.
I want a bigger WR that plays big and wins big. Goes up and gets it even if he’s covered.
We have speed and surprising well route running with Goodwin. We have possession chain moving with Garçon.
We got the quick slot guy that gets painted with the ball as soon as he breaks open.
Give me the big boy now please.
I like a lot of what you have to say about Ridley. I also feel the same. I don’t see him as a true #1 receiver in the league. In terms of talent / production, his ceiling will be on the same level as a Doug Baldwin or Hakeem Nicks. Great receivers, can win you ball games but not your ideal #1 receivers to defenses have to really be concern about on Sundays.
As far as the big boys, there’s quite a few in this upcoming draft that can definitely complement those receivers that you’ve mentioned on our current roster. Auden Tate for instance...!

I can see us making two trades in the first round:
1.) from 9 to 15 with a team.
2.) followed that with another trade, this time with the Bills—from 15 to acquire both of their picks (21 and 22).
We can walk away with 3 first round picks in 2018 and in addition to having a future 1st rounder: 2019 first round pick.

He'll have to show more toughness and consistency than Cooper, that's for sure.
But it doesn't sound like there's a 6-4 or 6-5 beast with 4.4 or faster speed in this year's draft.
They may have to look at TE for a red zone beast.
Anyone know what was the most frequently-used formation or personnel packages by the 49ers this year? I heard that the Rams mostly used 11 personnel. They didn't necessarily have 3 WRs putting up massive numbers either. Woods and Kupp did okay, around 60 catches each, 5 TDs each. Watkins only had 39 receptions but 8 TDs. Gurley was around 60 catches and 5 TDs too.
Or was playing 11 personnel 80% of the time mostly about getting defenses to play nickel for Gurley to run against?
Dallas Goedert. Dallas Goedert. Dallas Goedert. 1 monster solved.
Then do your best to sign Tyler Eifert and hope you don't tick off Garrett Celek, who is a very good #2 TE in my opinion and it's downright stealing to have him as your 3rd TE. Kick the rest of the TEs to the curb. Yes, I know Kittle isn't going anywhere (ugh!).
Saying it again. Offseason goal: Add monster size. Add monster size. Add monster size.
Where would you draft Goedert?
With a good physical you give me him in the second half of round one and I'm doing back flips. Multiple back flips.
I'll be sweating bullets about him with some of the usual playoff teams who didn't make the playoffs this year. That'll be somewhat irrational with some folks but it wouldn't shock me if that's his ceiling. Barring any health issues I think his floor should be in the 30s. I would try like hell to not let him get past the mid 20s.

right? 9th(if) to 15th, then turn 15th into 21/22 thus finishing only two firsts in the 2018 draft?

Bills would trade 21 and 22 for 15?
That seems steep.

Good catch Ray! I was never good with math.
Yes, that’ll be only two firsts in 2018 with the addition of the 2019 first. Well, for me at least that would be okay if it means that we would be able to still get my guy Kirk at 21 instead at #10 pick.
Kirk at #21 and Bryce Love, or Malik Jefferson at #22 would make me very happy.

Not if they want Baker Mayfield or Lamar Jackson.
If they fall in love with a quarterback who they feel is a franchise type player / stadium feeling type of player / Rolex wearing/ limousine driving / Whoooo...! They’ll do whatever it takes to move up to secure such player. We may have to also give our 3rd or 4th make the deal but it’s not really a far fetched scenario.

The pick trade value chart says it's a bit lopsided but it's not so lopsided where I'd definitely say that would NEVER happen. I tend to allow myself to believe that a lot of things are always possible at the top end of a draft.
And for those that are a bit new to this and to those that want to get real technical with the draft chart, I'm obviously fully aware that not all teams follow the same draft chart, especially in the first 2 rounds, but the one I generally use just to have for SOME kind of guide is the one that generally seems to be the most popular and agreed upon one for the first 3 rounds.
In this scenario, I think under every chart I've ever seen you're still going to get a bit of a lopsided result no matters whose values you use. But if it's for a quarterback then you get into that territory that I talked about where something might not surprise me.

I don't know that Mayfield or Jackson would offer them more than Taylor has. Certainly not in the first year or two.
Of course they'd be a lot cheaper, because I think Taylor is due something like a $20 million roster bonus in a couple of months.
But Mayfield and Jackson both seem like out of pocket playmakers, which isn't all that different from Taylor.

Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
I don't quite remember which of the recruiting outlets, but one of them issued him a five star coming out of high school:
Kevin Toliver II - DB - Tigers
LSU junior CB Kevin Toliver II has decided to forego his senior season and enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
Toliver has frequently been described as raw, but has elite size (6'3/204) and made strides in his junior season; finishing with two interceptions and 10 broken-up passes. He currently projects as a late Day 2, early Day 3 prospect, but if he tests well and a team falls in love with his length and strength, that stock could rise significantly.

Roquan Smith - LB - Bulldogs
Pro Football Focus's Steve Palazzolo believes that Georgia junior LB Roquan Smith's best team fits include the Chargers, Raiders and Bengals.
Smith was the Butkus Award winner this year, and he's seen his stock explode thanks to his ability to make tackles (113) and his ability to maneuver in coverage (second-highest rated linebacker according to PFF). "The Chargers already have an excellent coverage unit, but they can use an upgrade at linebacker while the Raiders and Bengals had issues covering in the middle of the field this season," Palazzolo writes. "Last season, Alabama’s Reuben Foster received top-10 overall hype, and Smith may get the same this draft season."

Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
Nick Chubb - RB - Bulldogs
NFL Media Analyst Daniel Jeremiah reports that Nick Chubb was picked by executives to have the best NFL career of the running backs playing in the National Championship Game.
Three executives voted for Chubb, while the other two executives voted for his teammate; senior running back Sony Michael. Jeremiah, however, says that he has a slightly higher grade for Michael because of his versatility, and compared him to Kansas City Chief tailback Kareem Hunt. Chubb's injury concerns are sure to be scrutinized, but his size (5'10/228) and ability to make tacklers miss give him a chance to go in the first round. The same -- albeit for different reasons -- could be said for Michael.

Jerome Baker - LB - Buckeyes
Ohio State junior LB Jerome Baker announced his decision to declare for the 2018 NFL Draft.
"After a considerable amount of time and endless conversations with my loved ones, I have decided to forgo my senior year at Ohio State University to pursue my childhood dream of playing professional football," Baker writes. The 6-foot-1, 225-pound Baker wasn't as good in 2017 as he was as a sophomore, but analysts project him as a potential three-down linebacker, and he could go as early as Day 2 in 2018.

Deontay Burnett - WR - Trojans
USC junior WR Deontay Burnett announced he will enter the 2018 NFL Draft.
Burnett (6'0/170) was Sam Darnold and USC's top pass-catching option in 2017, finishing with an 86-1114-9 line on the season after catching 12 passes for 130 yards in the Cotton Bowl. He follows Darnold and Trojans tailback Ronald Jones as players on the offense who will forego their final seasons to enter the NFL draft. Most draft sites rank Burnett as a Day 2 pick, but if he tests well this spring, he could enter first-round conversation.

I’m very surprised by this decision. Pozz, from what you have gathered and know of him do you think that was the best decision for him to make solely based on football (draft stock) when you take the personal stuff out personal (i.e. financial reasons)?
Josh Allen - LB - Wildcats
Kentucky junior LB Josh Allen will return to school for his senior season and forego the 2018 NFL Draft.
Allen's return to Kentucky is a major boon for the Wildcats defense. He's picked up 14 sacks the last two seasons, and was seen by many draft analysts as one of the more versatile linebackers in the class. A strong senior season from the 6-foot-5, 230-pound linebacker could see him enter first-round conversation.

Payne is playing incredible. I would not mind him at all on our dline. Him instead of Mitchell playing next to Buckner would be nice.
