Any news on this dude.

Haven't heard any and was curious if he is doing anything at all.

A wasted trade into the first round imho.

Team stats are here: http://www.euroleague.net/competition/teams/showteam?clubcode=CAN&seasoncode=U2017#!stats

But that is not the same as context on how he is doing...

Still extremely limited role, counting stats aren't impressive and hasn't started shooting from outside (has taken 13 3PA in total this year). So not transformed into Porzingis 2.0 yet.

Don't think the chances are high that he's ever going to develop into a NBA player, he has some decent mobility for his size, but his frame is really thin. On top of that are his shooting numbers not even close to good enough to label him as a stretch 5 BC probably envisioned him.

As a 22 year old he has averaged about 1 3PA per 36 minutes and his career FT% is 58.9, I personally have zero faith him in tbh.

Now that I think about it, it makes me even more mad.

He used two future second rounders to move up into the 1st round to select someone who'll probably never contribute to this team and then waste even more second rounders by selling them. Our guard/wing depth has been atrocious this year and we could have kept Jawun Evans or Sterling Brown, with the 1st rounder Kyle Kuzma, Jordan Bell, Josh Hart, etc.

It's not like we didn't have space. We threw away a roster spot and (the recurring asset) a second rounder to acquire Trevor Booker. Who I like as a player, but is a horrible fit with the roster.

End of the day, four second rounders flushed through the toilet without returning one valuable asset.

Why I am beginning to hate BC, he hasn’t done **** here except squander our assets away. Our bench could have been a lot better...

I've not watched him play since we drafted him. But I would wait just a little longer on this one.
No, I don't like that he's already 22. Also, I would prefer a defensive menace at the five.

But he is a beanpole in the Spanish league, which is considered the 2nd best in the world. And it looks like he might be turning a corner? As their backup center, he's scored in double figures in five out of his last six games [12pts/19min, 13pts/24min, 3pts/13min, 10pts/16min, 10pts/22min, 12pts/17min] [23-33, 0-0, 14-20] [70%, 0%, 70%] [10pts & 6rbs/19min ~ 18pts & 11rbs/36min]

My issues with BC are his sense of value and defense. His saving grace over the years has been his eye for offensive talent. Bolden at the four and Pasecniks at the five could be a nice tandem.

This kid is viewed as a backup center...correct? Not sure why everyone is so critical based on expectations...he isn't coming here to unseat Embiid.

Thanks.

Just wanted to talk about something else for a change since we seem to talk about the same thing all the time and basically have a long break time right now, so I dug this thread up since he is our other first rounder.

I've only seen highlights of him so I really don't have much of an opinion, but for us to take him over Kuzma really stands out cause Kuz could really have helped this team. There are always draft mistakes, but as much as we talk about Fultz and whoever else anyone wanted....Kuz and some after him really would have given us a boost cause at least we know Fultz will play eventually.

This dude might never play for us. I hope he does, but man when you look at last year's draft, this pick stands out like a sore thumb to me more than any of the others as very questionable at this point.

I doubt this guy will ever suit up for this team. Like ever. Looks like a big stiff to me.

I would imagine it's because BC moved into the first round to grab him while Kuzma and Jordan Bell were still available.

May have been poor roster management over anything else. Would they realistically have had space for either Bell or Kuala, vs stashing a developing big who definitely isn't coming over? The argument probably has to wait a few years...although I was hoping for Bell at the time and Kuala certainly appears to be a find.

How much fun would it be this summer in Vegas to see Tremont Waters (PHI18), Furkan Korkmaz, Mi… Bridges (LA18), Jonah Bolden, Anzejs Pasecniks?

Pasecniks is not ready to come out of the oven yet. But I like the rate of his improvement. Same with Jonah Bolden (except for his outside shooting). You can see how they might work together. The idea is for Pasecniks to hold down the paint (rebounding-wise), while Bolden is our big wing who can guard in space and contribute to the boards.

While Pasecniks is shooting an occasional three pointer (without success), Bolden is shooting 3.5 3pts/gm over his last twelve (but without success, lol). Pretty much 50% of Bolden’s shots are from behind the arc. That is his future. Catch Ben’s passes, hit open threes, fill the lane.

Bolden projects to be a fourth or fifth option, almost no different than Robert Covington. Like with Cov, the reason to get excited about Jonah Bolden is defense. The two of them together as forwards will be dynamite in between Fultz, Simmons and Embiid.
In Bolden’s last 12 games, he’s made 8 starts at power forward, 3 starts at center, and one start at small forward. In 25min/gm over those 12, Bolden is averaging 7.5rebs, 1.2blks, and a most beautiful 2.25stls/gm. That’s 3stls/gm in full starters minutes.

I must remind everyone every chance I get that in summer league against the Celtics I was standing on my feet yelling “Stress his ass out!” whenever Bolden got matched up on Jayson Tatum, culminating in him stripping Tatum one on one, taking it the length of the court, then kneeing Jaylen Brown in the thigh as he layed the ball up, putting Brown out for the rest of the game for precautionary reasons. I love you!

Bolden and Dario Saric are the opposite sides of the same PF coin. Dario is the ballhandler, creator, who has trouble defending in space and who doesn't finish above the rim. Whereas Bolden is a terrific defender in space who finishes above the rim, but whose offensive game is limited to filling the lane and catching & shooting.

Saric’s playmaking ability may be wasted when playing with Embiid, Fultz and Simmons. Might be more appropriate to put Bolden with the starters. Saric’s playmaking may be more useful on the second unit. Since Bolden has the length to move to the five, he and Saric can still get 30min apiece. Pasecniks’ skills should fit nicely as the fourth big man, if he continues to develop.

I love it when people form strong opinions on players when they haven’t even seen them play one second of actual basketball outside of YouTube clips or reading mock draft write ups.

Edit : Also Jordan Bell is 23 and Kyle K. Is 22. Just thought you should know that when you post about age concerns.

Agreed.

To me, this kid is just BC taking a flyer on someone that he liked. He traded very little for him. It will either work or it won’t, but blaming him for not selecting other players that were taken later and have been great is not fair.

When people like Bell or Kuzma hit you should just praise the GM’s that selected them, and not criticize the ones who didn’t.

He is a scrub, not worth having any hope, it is just a waste of time. Let's face it, the only reason he generated some buzz is because Porzingis has had success and he resembles him a bit, except he is not a very good shooter and doesn't protect the rim. So basically he is nothing like Porzingis, because these are the two main things that make Porzingis great tbh.

I think the big mistake that was made was rostering Stauskas and Okafor this year when they had no intention of using either of them. Should have just cut them back in the the summer.

I expect Pickanick Baskettes and Bolden will both be over next year, and there’s a chance that they also have two 1st rounders to add on to them. So as far as the 2nds go, you all should just forget about any sleepers you may love. Consider all of those picks as good as gone. At best maybe BC takes one more stash.

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
