Here's the thing, I sort of agree with your take, but there's a catch. This whole evil racists thing is basically being co-opted for the purposes of creating tribalism. As the message that racism will no longer be tolerated gets pushed increasingly further (as it should), the reality that racism isn't actually a yes/no question becomes easier to exploit.
I mean, think of it logically here. The argument is that people make all sorts of (wrong) assumptions based on immediately identifiable traits, such as skin color, gender, etc. and that biases are born out even more through other means as social norms and levels of comfort tend to reinforce those existing biases. On one hand, you have a side that suggests that we really do need to look at the systemic discrimination and racism (or sexism or whatever) and on the other side we have a side that essentially shuts down whenever they're labeled intolerant in some way, shape or form, as though intolerance, be it racism or something else, is a yes/no question and clearly they fall into the no category.
In the end, you're right, it's tribalism, but the cause of that tribalism isn't quite from the place you imply, and the responsibility for the solution is much, much farther from your implications in your posts.
You make good points here. And I am not defending those that don't want to address the systematic racism that is built into society.
This thread started with a notion that if you don't vote for Ds, then you are enabling racists (an essential attach on independents - very much like the Rs did with abortion). My point is that it is more nuanced than that and I reject that argument.
I pointed out that non-sustainable government is also systematically discriminatory.
I could make the same illogic here. If you vote for Ds who are spendthrift you are racist. It is an equally illogical argument. I would add to the illogic with - Bernie Sanders was a democratic candidate that would spend us into oblivion which would hit hardest those with the least resources. He is therefore racist. And all that vote D are racist. I pointed out that not all Rs are racist but might vote for Rs for other reasons (I think I cited abortion).
Now, if you are a dreamer - and you vote for the Ds for that single issue, it is totally understandable. But what about those that don't believe in Birthright Citizenship? They might be pushed immediately to the Rs if that is their issue. Does that make them racist - hardly. But that is how they are cast...
