Stanley Johnson is bad.

Post#1 » by ubernathan » Wed Jan 10, 2018 6:39 am

His PER is only 8.1. At least on the offensive side of the ball, he is an absolute zero. He makes Tony Allen look like Dr. J. Are the Pistons banking on his potential, or can they just not get anyone better? At this point they should consider signing Josh Smith.

I am not entirely sure whats the point of this thread. I feel like a low ball offer is coming.

Whats the best thing about this "intelligent" discussion is that it doesn't assume that offense is the only thing that matters

I think his pairing with Avery is what makes him looking so bad on the offensive end.

I'd be fine with trading him at this point. He is three years in and hasn't really improved. Time to move on for both parties.

It's fine to say trade him. The problem is "for what"? He's a plus defender on a rookie deal, so just giving him away doesn't make the team better. I'm sure SVG is more than willing to add him to a bigger deal, but it needs to be something that actually improves the team.

Not like outsiders can't just use the Stanley Johnson thread to post opinions on him being bad. Gotta start a new thread to tell us what we know and actually watch.

It was a troll thread attempt that sorta backfired on him because we mostly agree. The "sign Josh Smith" quip was the obvious giveaway.

The days of Stanley being considered a prospect are numbered, if they aren't already past us.

He's a reclamation project you hope would blossom with a change of scenery.

id trade him to a rival, to a division rival. it doesnt matter where we trade him. do i wish him the best of hes dealt? sure. do i hope he develops better? maybe. do i actually think he'll succeed and develop an offensive game? no. his shooting form is ugly. hes stiff. he gets lost easily, and hes terrified when hes wide open and freezes for a few seconds. on drives, he doesnt even look good.

remember he praised svg early on. im not sure that relationship is strained. i think its more about stanley just not being good.

As a draft prospect, he wasn't known for his shooting, obviously relying on his size and strength more than his skills. This should have been a red flag. I don't think he is a total waste - good defender and will be in the league a long time as a role player. But he is not our SF of the future. And if we can throw him in a trade to get a starter, I'm all for it.

One more thing - it was always going to be a big deal to compare him and Winslow to see if we drafted the right guy or not. It seems that both of those picks were wasted. Should've trade our pick to Boston that year and got draft picks - Boston was dying to get WInslow.

He's proven he isn't a starter in this league on a good team (although he could be on a good team that had offensive minded players around him). His career path right now is a backup but could move to 10th-12th guy playing only situationally if he doesn't get better with his jumper.
