Congrats to the Bears for fixing the smallest problem on the team. But I do like this guy more and more. Hearing that players play hard for him is a good sign he makes sense. And we know his offense is good. It is finally time to give a Bears coach an actual good roster.

On paper, this is a very impressive staff. I was not expecting anything close to this.

Looks like the guy I've been following (@dabearsblog) has been spot on thus far.
Love the idea of us working with Mitch's talent as a spread QB. Pace was huge on Mariota when he came out.

Your source is on fire. I'm his newest follower. Thanks.
Love the Helfrich hire. He's an innovator. This just gets better all the time.

Re: Matt Nagy is new Head Coach of the Chicago Bears
Nagy mentioned he wanted to get a diverse staff. The NFL is starting to adapt to more college concepts. That's the way the wind is blowing in the sport since most of these QB's nowadays are coming out of spread offenses and variations like the air raid. The NFL is starting to accomadate and adapt to them, rather than being rigid and ultra advanced since its totally possible that a kid hasn't even taken a meaningful snap from under center for 8+ years their amateur careers last. As long as its scoring points, they don't mind what the concept is.
It makes sense to have Helfrich in the room, NFL experience or not. He'll be able to help Nagy fine tune his offense to Trubisky's strengths coming out of his College O, and recognize if other teams are doing stuff like that to us to better help Fangio or whoever the DC will be. I won't put the hiring on a pedestal, but I see Nagy's reasoning.

What you say makes sense. What Im driving at is Nagy has no exp at HC. Putting a staff around him that will help him grow into is role provides a buffer. A guy with no NFL exp is as green as they come. Nagy will have to teach him how to be an OC in the NFL while shouldering all that comes with being an HC which he has never done. Not even for 1 game.....
I see your point, im speaking about development of the staff. These are both jumps from one level to the next with no buffer.

He was the one that said Defillipo was underwhelming during his interview.

I'm trying to temper my expectations... but hot damn am I loving how everything is coming together! Retaining Vic Fangio was HUGE; what he did with our defense last season was nothing short of brilliant. I'm of the opinion, too, that he's going to be even better this season now that Fox isn't going to be butting heads with him.

I disagree that coaching was a small factor, but yes Pace needs to add talent this offseaon. In particular at WR.

Agreed, and I can't get worked up over the new staff. When you try to be overly creative in the nfl with schemes that either take too long or are too gimmicky you end up with Marc Trestman plays. So I need to actually see the plays work before I could buy in.

For what position I wonder. This would be something that would make me feel more confident in the staff from the experience standpoint.

Nagy was on the score and said they're working on basics of a West coast offense before they even get to that point. West coast staples within the offense, huge emphasis on details and timing. QB footwork, Tackle sets, wr breaks and drilling each play against all coverages.
Once they get the base down then they'll incorporate what he called, "fun plays", or the Hybrid spread offense stuff that he and the OC come up with to keep the D guessing..
I get what you mean, but gimmicks is a strong word. The game is evolving into this, just like 90s basketball fans would probably have a heart attack if they saw what the NBA is doing right now with 7 footers that can stretch the floor. This offense they are about to run is years in the making and the NFL has already shown they'll copy concepts from that work, not just be out there running spread and no-huddle all game like Chip Kelly did before everybody catches on. Even to Chip's credit it wasn't that O that got him canned so much as his player personnel skills and his lack of ability to get his men to buy into him as a leader. Here's a great write up everybody should read.

I hope we run a Jags type offense. Tru has yet to show he can sling it around the field so until he gets to that point I think we need to run a conservative offense. The jags do a lot of RPO and crossing routes and I think that’d be perfect offense for Tru right now. Let Howard carry the load, a few explosion plays with Cohen and then a condensed passing game.

I'd definitely take a Jags aggressive style defense for next season... would love a big DB too

I doubt Nagy is going let Trubsiky to just go out there and start slinging it without testing the waters with him first and teaching him to play QB and learn the offense, work his mechanics etc.
Something Nagy should do is let Mitchell play to his strengths though. Get him in the shot gun more and let him out on some bootlegs. Just to start out till he can develop more into a pocket passer.
