Lol. Good for them, but they have nothing of value outside of Bam. Any player worth playing on their team (Dragic, Richardson, KO, Johnson, and Whiteside) Are all overpaid and/or old.

I think Justice Winslow has value and will continue to improve, but I don't think he'd be a good fit for the Wiz since we have Oubre.

Apparently, people are starting to call Justise Winslow a bust -- Miami's version of Jahlil Okafor. If they sour on him, he might be available as a bargain. He can't seem to shoot, but he does everything else extremely well & is still young & cheap.

Not sure what we could offer that would work -- Meeks? Probably no deal here....

The Heat tend to get the most out of their players. When a team like Miami is looking to shed a young player like Winslow I'm immediately a bit cautious.

Exactly, new age NBA contracts are what they are. No getting around that. Just wait until Deandre Jordan signs his deal this summer.

Agreed, I'm not interested in Winslow. But I'd consider Whiteside if the deal included Mahinmi.

I'd do Whiteside for Gortat, Smith and a first

Disagree. I think people will be surprised at his market. All the best teams have modern Centers that can switch and/or shoot the 3. Bos-Horford, Cavs-Love, Toronto-Ibaka, GSW-Green. Houston is a little different, but they have literally every other player on the court jacking 3's.

Word... I think you're right.

I remember he was really good defensively his rookie season. Winslow and Richardson were tearing it up for a while there. Unless I remember incorrectly.

Well, of course I don't know that they are trying to shed Winslow; in fact, I have no reason to think they are.

OTOH, no matter what team you trade with, that team is "looking to shed a... player," & so are you.

Unfortunately, we'd pretty much have to trade Wall in order to keep Whiteside for more than a year and a fraction. Weird that Whiteside's pt has gone down 7 minutes a game from last season. He's still producing at a great rate.

Yep, can't do Whiteside for Gortat because of the salary implications. That's why I said to include Mahinmi, although even then we're still adding to our predicament. And if we're going to add salary, we can't include picks because we need the cheap talent.

Basically it has to be Mahinmi+Morris for Whiteside or no deal IMO, and even then I'd still just be in "consider" mode. We'd have to have something else lined up to move Gortat for multiple contributing players on smaller deals. Is the upgrade to Whiteside enough to justify that?

I don't get the salary issues. The outgoing salary but within range of what's coming in. If you include a throwaway deal like Frazier then it becomes 19 million outgoing and 23 million incoming. The extra 4 million does essentially become 8 million due to tax costs, but if the cost of replacing Gortat with an all-star like Whiteside is 8 million--that's just good business no matter how frugal you're trying to be.

So basically, Miami wants to just deal high-priced contracts but not Dragic.

According to Spotrac, those players are:
Hassan Whiteside ($24.6 million per year through 2020)
Goran Dragic ($17 million per year through 2020)
Dion Waiters ($13 million per year through 2021)
Kelly Olynyk ($12.5 million per year through 2021)
Tyler Johnson ($12.5 million per year through 2020)
James Johnson ($14.4 million per year through 2021)
Josh Richardson ($10.5 million per year through 2022).

Yes, that's correct; you don't get the salary issues. You don't get, for example, that if we brought on Whiteside then 18 months from now we'd have @$119.5m dedicated to 4 players. Above all, you don't get that you can't build a team that way.

We'd all like to have Michael Jordan, Hassan Whiteside, & Spider Man. But, we can't have Jordan b/c he'd too old; we can't have Whiteside b/c he's too expensive; & we can't have Spider Man b/c he isn't a basketball player.

All 3 of those ideas are impossible in exactly equivalent ways, & it's pointless to talk about them for exactly equivalent reasons.

Give them three first round picks if they take Mahinmi/Gortat and whatever in exchange for Williams and DJ.

Nope. Three first round picks for two players who are going to be free agents after this season? :noway:
