As badly as the Terps line play is and was, if that's the case and the real issue then...Wizardspride wrote:Chocolate City Jordanaire wrote:I do not know the backstory.
I know Dwayne Haskins is playing at Ohio State. I know Stefon Diggs' little brother Trayvon Diggs just got a championship ring for being part of Alabama's team. (That is not necessarily any kind of bad mark on Maryland. Remember the other night in the national championship football game. There were Ridley's on both Georgia and Alabama. Both of them great receivers apparently).
DJ Durkin seems like a really nice guy and I believe he is a much better coach than Randy Edsall.
However, if he is going to lose prized recruits and have a bad record for a long time I just have one name, Kevin Sumlin. I don't know if Sumlin is a better Coach than DJ. I just know he has had some success coaching Johnny Manziel and coaching in the SEC. Dude beat Alabama! DJ Durkin can't say that.
I do know that the coach of Penn State, James Franklin, sure has had a lot of success with his team. I believe Maryland interviewed Franklin before he selected Penn State. Who you hire makes a big difference in the success of the program.
I am concerned about Durkin his record and his ability to keep recruits

Merritt has weight issues and hasn't been able to get on the field.
Maryland's O-line recruiting has been very good so it's not a big loss.

I have a 17 year old son and he was 197 pounds when he was 13. He was too big to play Pop Warner football. He played with the kid that was about the 6-3 and 250 back then. My son was only about 5 5 nd 197 4 years ago.
Kendall told me dad I think I can take him.
He may or may not have been able to but I know one thing my son was the hardest hitter on the damn team. My short some people call fat but no they really called him gorilla nobody called him fat

I pray that DJ Durkin gets fired.
Not playing a lineman for HEALTH ISSUES...I UNDERSTAND.
Not playing a LINEMAN WHO YOU RECRUIT FOR WEIGHT ISSUES...WTF. How stupid can a coach get?
Play the guy. He might lose weight or might not. Who gives a fucj? In Hawaii there are high school kids that are 300-plus even 400 lb playing football. On the very same feel they are guys as light as 130 to 140 lbs.
There are girls that play varsity football.
Trying to discipline a player and say that he is undisciplined because he's overweight is just fat shaming of the worst degree
Expecting everyone to have a body like Dwayne Johnson otherwise known as The Rock is b*******
If this kid is transferring because the coach didn't like his weight he is just as stupid is Mike Shanahan was when he went all in on fat ass Albert Haynesworth.
Shanny made that guy run forties and training camp which is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.
Haynesworth was already an established good player but all they did was start fighting from the jump.
Now if you're going to say that Haynesworth play fell off because he gained weight yada yada yada that's a different story.
Merit transfer is due to weight issues really????

Some of the best nose tackles have been only around 6' tall. It's all about leverage. And Niko Marley was one of the better preseason players for the Skins - playing LBer at maybe 5'8 200 lbs. Good luck to your son on and off the field. Having his father on his side - he can't lose.

What I'm saying is Merritt (because of his weight) couldn't/didn't perform well enough to see the field.
In Walt Bell's (OC) system the lineman need to be super agileand from everything I've heard/read Merritt really struggled with his conditioning.
Didn't mean to give the impression that I don't care about losing Merritt cause I do.
I'm just not devastated over it. And you shouldn't be either. Durkin is quickly getting UMD recruiting to the point where landing 4 star O-lineman should be expected.
Merritt was 4 star in the 2016 class. Since then Maryland has landed Marcus Minor T/G 4 star, Jordan McNair T/G 4-star, TJ Bradley T 4 star, Jaelyn Duncan T 4 star, Evan Gregory G 4 star. And that's not even including the high 3 stars he's landed.
So yeah, we'll survive.
