you guys are overreacting. these types of interviews are for casual fans who aren't hanging on every word. guys like us on the otherhand...... guys capable of going 100 pages on a single unsubstantiated trade rumor.... interviews like this are completely useless. kidd could be on his last leg with ownership and horst job is to make sure nobody knows......to keep thons trade value higher than Giannis.

Taco John wrote:Radio interview or not, it's not asking too much for the GM to be honest and candid. He could and should say things like...
"We are no doubt reaching a point where a corner has to be turned. We can't use youth as an excuse forever. It falls on everyone in our organization to get this team to start taking more steps forward than backward." This lets fans know they have the urgency to be better without pointing fingers.
And when asked if he has the ability to fire the head coach, he should be able to say...
"Yes, I have the authority to make that decision." or "I can initiate that process but I am not alone in making that decision." Either could be followed with a comment that he is not motivated to make a change at this time so as not to stir up added speculation.
This isn't asking too much and it isn't that difficult. Answers like these also have the bonus effect of giving off the appearance of competence and awareness.
Can any real conclusions be drawn from a GM's appearance on a radio call-in show? If so, which ones exactly?

Him positively mentioning the development of Thon is concerning. It's an unprompted statement at odds with reality.
The rest is spin. Larry Harris was ridiculously photogenic and ready with a quote. Didn't make him a good gm.

Good point- you have to consider the medium and the intended audience.
Just another reason why it's silly to try to extract meaning or substance from these things.

i get the pr talk justification but there’s a difference between that and flat out lying to your paying customers. horst said were a winning team. that’s a flat out lie. the white house administration pulls the same **** all the time but since this situation is just basketball, it’s easier to get away with the whole pseudo-rationalist “things aren’t that bad” angle.
only way to change things is to get in line with the outrage. stop buying tickets. stop watching games. erect billboards. energy and effort.

Definitely the first guy is accurate. Hammond has a lot better eye for talent and general philosphy than that. We saw that during the ownership transition and w/ his first offseason with the Magic. But when his hand gets forced he made some really bad deals, i.e.: Plumlee, Vasquez, and Redick. That's why he and Morway worked so well together. Morway was the vinegar to Hammond's honey.

While there may be some degree of overreaction in the doomsday to the commentary, rational people are rightly perturbed that they couldn't acknowledge they weren't where they wanted to be, and they're still using the youth excuse when the rebuild started 5 years ago (4 on their watch). The level they're currently at is unacceptable this far in, which should be acknowledged. A functional franchise would do that and then at least give a people a (possibly hollow) claim they'll turn it around, and why.

And that is the main disagreement with some people who do not rush to be on the Kidd -hater wagon.
You mentioned the word "talent-talented " 3 times in your post. Under which perspective exactly this team is heavy talented? The whole criticism on Kidd comes from the delusion that Bucks are "top heavy talent wise".
Would you prefer me to have said maximize the available players skill sets and play to their strengths?

they are trying to market a new arena. this interview wasn't for the rational fan. it was for the casual fan. the corporate fan. they weren't going onto the radio to discuss growing pains or failed expectations. it would have been moronic from a PR standpoint to stir the pot by acknowledging that regardless of what the basketball junkies are thinking.

So what conclusion do you think can be safely drawn from that Thon comment? It's being unprompted is a good indication we should take it at face-value? How concerned are you on a scale of 1-10 that Horst, somehow, can't tell Thon is playing like crap?
The Larry Harris thing is a good point- if Horst said all the right things, would you really feel encouraged or comforted in any way? Isn't it just as silly to be concerned if he says some "wrong" things?

What are they trying to sell though, the naming rights? Outside of that I'd say it's counter-productive to claim this is what they're satisfied with and pretend like things would change by themselves.

Re: 3rd Annual Fire Kidd Thread - Volume 2 (Horst Interview pg 14)
Different sport and different situation, but David Stearns seems to give pretty fantastic interviews as the GM for the Brewers. They've been rebuilding the past couple of years and he never sugar-coated the situation. He always speaks honestly about how building a winning product takes time, and he details how to get there.
This is from one of Stearn's interviews last year
I know it's hard for a GM to talk about the team to the public because there has to be some level of privacy, but comments about Thon's improvement and brushing away Giannis and Middleton's minutes are not simply throwaway comments, they're dangerous.

There are different levels. I think what we can always do is be honest. That's something that from the moment we started this process, we said we're going to be honest. Now that doesn't mean I can always share the trade discussions we're working on or our internal evaluations of particular players, but I can be honest that we're not going to share those. I can be honest about our overarching goals and our long-term plan. To the extent that I can do that, I think our fan base appreciates that. I think our community appreciates that, and it gives them a greater understanding for what we're doing.

And who would've thought that Brandon Knight was an overpay on that deal.

Either way, doesn't necessarily take away take away from the rest of the post. And there were reports that Kidd was pretty happy with the trade. Going back to when they played against each other in the Olympics, there are plenty of reports that suggest Kidd was a big fan.

Re: 3rd Annual Fire Kidd Thread - Volume 2 (Horst Interview pg 14)
Thon has regressed on the court compared to the brief moments of capable composure he got to show last year (good moments in the Toronto series). Everybody can see that so that's a weird thing to credit Kidd for. "Thon can lift a few heavier pounds now and he rides an exercise bike extremely well..disregard the fact that he is a butcher in all things basketball. #Progres #DNAs"
Giannis would be Giannis without Kidd. Not so much of an anti-Kidd statement as it is a pro-Giannis one. His work ethic/desire and his physical attributes have made him.
