Re: Fake Trade Thread 16/17 pt.1
Would you guys be open to Batum and your pick this year (currently 10th) for Kevin Love, our first (currently 24th), Ante Zizic, and Cedi Osman (who I like a lot, but I'm trying to make this fair)?
Sorry, I'm really not sure how far off in value I am here, so just let me know if it's not even close. I don't know if you guys view Batum as a salary dump or what, and I haven't paid attention to him this year. Truth be told, I actually don't want Batum, but for Love the salaries would have to match so we'd have to take some sort of filler back. I'm just trying to put a fantasy trade together and it includes getting another lottery pick.

If our pick stays in that range, or gets worse, then I honestly think Cleveland would be giving up way too much value. Love is way better than Batum and has a shorter and slightly cheaper contract. I might do Batum and our pick for just Love (definitely if CLE is adding their 1st and another prospect) if I knew our pick was going to be 10th or worse and I'm generally against trading our picks. Batum's contract is that awful.

Really really don't like the idea of building around Kevin Love but desperate times call for desperate measures. We have to keep Kemba happy. Might as well give it a shot.
I feel like the Cavs might be able to do better.
I would not give up #10 + Batum for Love straight up though.

Yeah I mean I actually really like Love, but our team is just constructed horribly now that JR, Shumpert, and Tristan have fallen off and Jae isn't performing as expected. We need to bring in some defenders and it's a desperate time for us, too.

Marvin Williams. If you are trading Love, even to another team, you guys would do well to target Marv somehow in that.
I don't want to trade him ... Marv has been one of the 4 most impactful guys on the team this year ... it's just that IMHO he's the kind of guy that would fit the Cav's really well. He plays good D, can knock down open jumpers, and is a true professional both on and off the court. Most importantly he wouldn't need to be as involved on offense as Love does to maintain effectiveness.
The thing you mention that stuns me the most is Jae not doing so well. I really expected him to make a big difference for you guys.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Something like that with the first round pick swap is probably more fair towards Cleveland. I still think its pretty bad unless Batum has a resurgence playing with Lebron/IT.

Hate to burst your bubble, but Batum is simply not a defender anymore. He just decided he wasn't going to play defense once he got a big offensive role here. Marvin would be a terror next to LeBron though

If we could work this trade out I would be all for it. I really like Marv but if we could pull this off I would be super excited. I like the idea of also getting back two young euro guys out of it.... I liked Zizic in the draft. We would definitely win more games.
I would also like to see Marv playing along side Lebron.

Re: Fake Trade Thread 16/17 pt.1
My crazy thought - trade our 2018 draft pick. My thought is we can get some real value for it and I really don't think it's realistic to think we'll be bad enough to draft an elite prospect without tanking, which I don't think we'll do (and I don't want us to do).
Whoever we end up trading for, my two biggest items are linked - (1) a backup PG upgrade, and (2) someone that can play next to Kemba and get him to play more off ball so we can dramatically increase the number of C&S threes he gets. Hill makes the most sense, but I think we have to move Batum for him, which IMO cuts against (2) so reduces the benefit of the move.
Don't really have a solution.

I would be 100% behind trading our 2018 1st rounder if I was 100% sure Cho and Clifford will be around. But since they may be gone I’m willing to wait and see what the new regime can do with drafting and developing talent.
I can’t wait for both of them to get fired.

I'm OK with a pick trade in theory, as long as it has some sort of protection. How much depends on the deal and who we get back.
Just some random examples.
MKG+MCW+Stone for Hill ... MKG is young and would be a solid value for the Kings, whom need a SF. I'm not sure I would trade the pick at all here.
Batum for Hill ... I would trade the pick for that, but would ask for lottery protection. My minimum negotiation would be top 5 protection in 2018 but I might try to get one of their young guys attached if they went for that.
Batum, MCW, Stone, & JOB for Hill & Koufos ... pick trade with top 3 protection.
Moving away from the Kings, here are some other guys that seem to fit your profile to me:
* Lou Williams ... Clips super unlikely to trade him even for a pick IMHO
* J.J. Barea ... I think he can be had from Dallas
* Dellavedova ... poor value for a pick but IMHO that's what the Bucks would want
* IT ... seems like LeBron is scapegoating him, so probably available, but I'm not sure how well he would play *with* Kemba
* Cory Joseph ... not sure Indi trades him, but he has OK size for a PG
* Jordan Clarkson ... Lakers would need expiring contracts so a 3rd team would likely need be involved
* Ricky Rubio ... he's a lot like MCW, but with way better court vision and passing instincts
* Brandon Knight ... my personal favorite long term, but he's out for the year, so a summer move at best
Most of those guys aren't going to be available for parts like MCW+JOB+Stone (5.7 mil combined) either, so factor in trading one of Batum, MKG, or Marv. Barea might be the exception there.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

And it looks like the Bulls are putting Jerian Grant on the block as well with LaVine coming back. He has size, but not tons of experience.
Mirotic & Grant for MKG & Stone + protected pick?

You guys are willing to give up that much for George Hill? And give up MKG for Mirotic who is such a pansy he gets knocked out in practice after running his mouth and demands a trade essentially? I'll pass. We need a backup PG, but I'm not giving up MKG for one. We can find a solid backup in the G league like every other team seems to do except us

Just saying, but with the level of performance he is having, Marvin probably has a pretty good trade value even with his contract/age.
ps : i agree with Liver Pooty.
Many good pg's will be on the market during next FA, don't need to overpay (not that Hornets can anyway unless MJ..?). And you can't trade your best defender if you don't replace him with at the very least a very good 3D (with something between the ears unlike Ariza & alike).

Unless they free up capspace via trade the Hornets would have to go into the Lux tax to sign a free agent to the mid-level exception. I'm not expecting that they will be able to sign anyone interesting. Trades are about the only way forward at this point.

Bag of expired lays potato chips for Batum.
Honestly his contract is so bad and so long anything that would possibly get him off this roster is worth it besides trading Walker. I like the hill idea

I wouldn't trade Batum for an expiring straight up, and definitely wouldn't attach an asset to him to do that.
