Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
In case anybody forgot, he played the last 3 quarters on an injury that would have kept the vast majority of players out of the game, and indeed did keep him out of the next two games of the following series. If CP3 only cared about himself instead of the team, he would have sat the rest of this game. This should serve as a quick refresher for those who believe otherwise.
If not callously valuing players for only for what they can do for you, and throwing every player who doesn't play for the Clippers anymore under the bus makes me a "bandwagon" Clipper fan, I am proud to call myself a "bandwagon" Clipper fan, and everyone should be.
I root for players always, organizations sometimes.
I don't know how I'm ever going to forgive the Clippers' new front office.

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
I don't really know what is required to have your number retired? I'd assume it makes sense to retire him, but it also might not. Not much to be bitter about in relation to Paul leaving. He played well here, we weren't good enough or healthy enough, and he wasn't good enough or healthy enough to overcome that, but he did well.
It's MTV, why are you acting surprised?

Blake gave us those. CP3 just hopped on the bandwagon and took all the credit.
Wow

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
Would be a bad look for the franchise if the franchise doesn't retire the best player who's ever played for the team. What NBA franchise would even consider doing this?
Like, come on man. It's not like he played 2 years here either. He played over half a decade for the team man
Why is this even a question tbh

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
This is something that is at least 5 or so years away. Hopefully some of the hurt feelings (on both sides) will have dissipated by then. I don't appreciate some of what has taken place since he left. However, I do appreciate that an all-time great point guard was willing to spend his prime years here. It didn't go as well as hoped or expected but there were plenty of exciting and memorable moments during his tenure here.

I'm ok with retiring CP3's jersey, but i don't want him as a first clipper player whose numbers retired. It's Blake's spot. Then, CP3 can have it with DJ's.

Man, all of a sudden, I enjoy watching the old vid of Cousins smashing the ball off Chris Paul a few years ago.

I don't see Eric Piatkowski's jersey. I don't see Ron Harper's jersey up there. I don't see Loy's or Corey's.
I think Elton deserves a lot more than CP if we are gonna induct a non-life-time clipper to be the first retired jersey of our franchise. it really outta be Bob McAdoo.

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
Charles Smith and Danny Manning should get their numbers retired since they were the two that made me become a fan of the team 29 years ago!
As for why I am down on CP3. The documentary was trash, but I'll admit i didn't watch it. I heard enough to know I didn't need to. Like Doc Rivers said (and I can't believe I am quoting him) When you leave, just leave.
But what happened last week in Portland where he scored an uncontested layup with less than 10 seconds left in a game they were up by 7? Living in Vegas I can tell you, the line on that game was 7, so him making the disrespectful score made it to where the Rockets covered the point spread. No one was covering him? I don't get to watch the games so I check the play by play on ESPN and saw multiple times last week where we had a 24 second violation because we had gotten the ball back with 29 seconds left and didn't want to take a shot. Here, he could have just run out the clock but he scored?
And remember... this is the NBA Union President. Time may heal all wounds but EB blew his chance at being immortalized. Piatkowski, Loy and Corey, sorry Neddy, but they didn't make enough of an impact to justify the honor. It has to go to Blake and DJ before anyone else. McAdoo should have happened already. Ralph should have his mic retired. If CP3 gets into the rafters before any of those four and it's a crime.

Anybody else wanna pretend that this question is absurd given the difference of opinion in this thread?

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
it is too early for this discussion. It is absurd to retire someone's jersey who is still actively playing for another team.
Let him retire from basketball, let a year or so pass after that, than we can have this discussion.
You will all have different opinion on the subject in 2025 than you have today.

if Blake stays as a life time clipper, his jersey should be the first, unless we want to retro-retire people from Buffalo.
if Blake is traded and we are at crossroads to honor a non-lifetime clipper, we outta look into the very first Clippers team to make back to back playoff appearance between 91 through 93. it should be Larry Brown and his squad. Yes CP3's era resulted in 6 straight playoff births, but before that, was 05-06 Sam I am's team and 97-98 team. that's it. since 78 til now, in span of 40 years, we have made playoffs 10 times, and 4 separate eras. if we are gonna recognize non-lifers for retired Jerseys, let's start from the beginning.
ehhhhh f it.

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
Time generally heals most rifts. Most Raptor fans were dead set against retiring Vince’s number after he demanded a trade and ultimately left town, but you’d have a hard time not getting 90-95% approval from the fans on retiring his number now. And CP3 is a better player than Vince ever was.
It’s like thinking back on an old G/F after a good relationship but a bad breakup. You hate her right now but years later you’ll onl6 reflect on the good times and remmeber them fondly.

I dont get how so many people believe in the raptors, they have zero to chance to win it all.

Blake's number should be retired right now. CP3's number should never be retired.

Re: Would You Retire CP3’s Number?
Well obviously we're not retiring any active players number, but it's a good question now too. Initially Blake had the edge because we were assuming his tenure would be a lot longer, and that he would be around for many more years, but overall now, Blake hasn't even been a Clipper much longer than Paul. How does being traded vs wanting to leave factor in?
CP was the better player in their tenure as Clippers and probably the Clippers best player overall, but Griffin was the drafted and groomed guy. There's an argument for both to be retired at some point down the road. They were both the main cogs in the most successful stretch in franchise history

Down the road I could see Blake's jersey being retired before CP3's.
