Re: Absurdly early 2018 NBA Draft Thread
Trae Young with 39 shot attempts??? That's insane.
Is that team running any kind of offense besides letting Young shoot wherever and whenever?
He won't have that kind of green light in the NBA.
I read somewhere that one of the reasons he didn't go to Kentucky was because he didn't want to be part of Calipari's 'share the ball' philosophy. He wanted an offense geared around him.

Heard from Cowbell Kingdom podcast, they are playing like an NBA team with everything built around Trae Young.

Young is averaging the same number of FGA per game as Curry did his last year at Davidson. The differences are that Young is averaging 30/10 whereas Curry averaged 28/5. So Young is scoring more efficiently and doubling Curry's assists. Oh and also Davidson was 1-AA Southern Conference and Oklahoma is a top 10 team playing against elite college teams.

Go on the record then, macd. Is he the next sCurry or the next Eddie House?
I'm leaning towards takin' it to tha House.

I'm so on the fence about Young...
Pros-3's, vision, ball handling, situational awareness, mentally strong..
Cons- Takes a million shots... lotta forced ones..has a very small frame..(yes I know scurry was a lil one too but he needs to be ready for 82+ playoffs.

I haven’t seen Trae Young playing off the ball much, cutting to the basket etc. Golden States’ success also centers around Curry’s ability to move without the ball and share it with other scorers like Klay Thompson, playmakers like Draymond Green. Tre Young has yet to display that. He can’t just simply be a chucker at the next level.

^I think the poor shot selection and turnovers can be overcome with good coaching and better offensive personnel playing alongside him.
But his small stature and bad defense are more difficult to get past.

But the things @thr3 is pointing out can't simply be glossed over. Shiii, I'd venture to say Young's nimbers are better than sCurry's college nimbers because Davidson's coach didn't make it all about sCurry the way Lon is for Young.
If Young were playing that way (i.e. moving off the ball, getting teammates involved (and don't give me assist nimbers), etc.) would he have the same astronomical nimbers and would he be considered a top player in the draft?
When the gaudy sizzle nimbers go away (which isn't a stretch to say he won't put up 30's and 10's in the league), what's left? No coach is going to give him a LiAngelo Ball-esque green light to jus' jak up shots from halfcourt just 'cause 1 or 2 might go in.

Re: Absurdly early 2018 NBA Draft Thread
Say why are double digit assist numbers not an indication of getting teammates involved?
I tell you I was pretty skeptical until i watched a few of his games. I disagree that he doesn't play off the ball well. A lot of his buckets are cuts to the hoop where his teammates find him.
On a pro level I don't think his size is that big of concern other than on defense. The guy can score against anyone. For me the biggest concern is whether he can shoot the 3 efficiently at lower volumes. His shot is pretty wonky and the arc on it is too high in my opinion. But there is no denying what he has been doing. There aren't a lot of fair comparisons.

The response to this is twofold:
1. Young is playing stiffer competition in the Big 12.
2. Davidson had a better team with more college level players.
OU is a bad team made into a very good one because of Trae Young's presence. They won 11 games all of last year; but with Trae at the helm, they exceeded that mark by the beginning of January.
The kid likely won't be the next Steph Curry, but he isn't a fluke. He'll likely settle in somewhere between Prime Mike Bibby and Prime Steve Nash in the NBA.

I'm so glad you asked. If the only pass you make is one you think will result in an assist, that's selfish as heyul and absolutely does not promote an atmosphere of getting folks involved. It's a primary criticism of Rondo and, recently, LeBron.
Now, before you get your jimmies in a twist, I'm not saying Young hunts assists. I'm simply answering your question of why I don't necessarily look at assist totals and think it's a surefire indicator that he's "getting folks involved".
Overall, there's like 9 dudes I'd take over Young. Unless you're planning on resurrecting the Iverson gameplan, I don't even see why yall want the guy.
ETA: {Foghorn Leghorn voice} And furthermore, I say, I say, it'll take this guy about 4-5 years before he's as good as Dennis is today and y'all hate Dennis. I don't get it.

Really hard to see him doing anything else but dominating the basketball. He cuts to the basket total three times here and Frankie makes good highlights including all the scoring opportunities (make or miss). He basically plays 95% as the decision maker / ballhandler.

I think the guy is being overlooked. I don't necessarily want him depending on what direction we are going. But the short answer is that the Hawks haven't had a real scorer since Nique. The chance to get someone who can actually lead a team is tempting as hell vs. an athletic big standing around waiting for someone to lob him the ball.

Bamba showed just about everything in this game. Offense is progressing game by game. The defense has been dominant since the start of the season. He swallows rebounds like a feeding whale and blocks are guided to teammates. Displays some NBA 3 line range as well.

Bamba kind of reminds me of Marcus Camby a bit. I wouldn't be mad if he was a Hawk next year. He's growing on me...falling in love with too many prospects here.

I'm starting to like a lot of the guys in this draft but I'm also becoming convinced that there isn't a true franchise star available. Which is disappointing for our tank year. I'm feeling like Ayton has the best chance of being a dominant scorer in the NBA. Just not excited about using the top pick on a big.

I had the exact same feeling for a minute then decided they are all franchise guys...ok not really but I'm hoping a couple guys are franchise and we land one.
