I love Kanter, but perhaps this is what's best if we are truly going to rebuild.

There appears to be a common trend with us acquiring players with me objecting to it from the get-go and others being weary, but optimistic in the beginning, only to become happy, and then say "**** this he's garbage."

well to be fair to kanter he was at least trying defensively to start the year. I saw some signs. But clearly lately with the team trending down hill he has reverted back to the "can't play" kanter theme. I never saw him as a piece...he was always a stop gap that I actually wanted to opt out for the beginning.

I get why some started to like him, rebounding machine, efficient offense, plays hard, embraces the city.

But the whole I don't know why im not playing in the 4th rubbed me the wrong way. Like I'm only happy about being here because I'm playing. But now that people are exposing me for the fake "team" guy he suggests he is.

But I'll give you credit even when he was playing well you held strong that he was garbage. I was at least trying to give him the benefit of the doubt

24.4 mpg - 11 ppg, 9 rpg, 2 apg 1.7 TO 52% from the field

Kanter this season:
25.3 mpg - 13.5 ppg, 10 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.7 TO 60% from the field

I'm not saying Kanter isn't outperforming him slightly. But Kanter's in his seventh season on a 16 million dollar contract with a player option while Willy is in his second year, almost exactly 2 years younger and locked up for 1.5 million dollars for the next few years. Trying to find a taker for Kanter makes worlds more sense than trading Willy. The difference isn't big enough to give up on Willy and hold on to a monster sized contract.

See, to me, trying defense doesn't mean anything more than a reason to like a guy. If a guy sucks on defense, tries on defense, but still sucks on defense...he still sucks on defense and him trying is just a way to still give him credit in light of his ineptitude. It was cool to see him embrace the city and be efficient, but that was the only part of his game that I ever liked. Tunnel vision, piss poor defense, and the rebounds didn't mean much because he wouldn't play defense just to get them.

Anyways, I'm just happy to see you on the same anti-Kanter train as I am on.

Nah, HEZI was one of the guys that I specifically remember getting into debates with over how good Willy can be. The vast majority of the board loved it, but he was one of the few that never really bought it.

It'd break Zubacca's little heart if they took Kanter.

I really wanted to see him get more PT this year. I know Nance is the better defender, Randle is the better defender and player, and BloPez is BloPez...but still...he played well last year in limited minutes.

Obviously, I did too. I've been following. It's a similar situation to Willy where if they can't get him a good chunk it looks like they would rather not play him at all. Zubac has chirped a little but not to the extent our guy has.

I finally figured out what "This will be a developmental year meant"

First everyone thought it meant "young guys will play and learn a system"
Then I and others came around to the idea it really meant "Develop KP in terms of being a number 1 option"


Now I'm pretty sure what it really meant was "We suck and are capped out so don't expect much"

im there now...ive seen enough. And whether it was anti or positive kanter. I never wanted him as a future piece. If he played well enough I just hoped he would have opted out. Offense only centers that are paid large amounts of $$$ just don't make sense in todays game.

My respect was only for the what he was doing on the court. Not seeing him as a piece to move forward with. But now I just hope we can get rid of him ASAP because I fear he will opt in.

Basically I have come to the conclusion outside of a little worse rebounding...WHG can do what kanter does at 1/10 the price.

It would fit the Phoenix timeline pretty well if he were to lose the locker room at about this time. Not to make a one to one comparison (PHX really killed him with trades that weren't his fault), but it's at least worth acknowledging that this wouldn't be the first time.
