He's an easy target because he was a "reluctant compromise" after a botched GM search. Not exactly a guy you put all your eggs in with the future of the franchise and the future of Giannis.
The fact that he was a compromise after a botched GM search is completely irrelevant when we're discussing Jon Horst the GM, though.
Its relevant when we're discussing how much real power we think he has. Did he have authority to fire Jason Kidd and then tell the owners after? I highly doubt it. Does he have authority to make final calls on any deadline deals that could significantly shake up and affect the construction of the roster going forward? At a time when you need to prove to your young superstar that your making the necessary moves take that next step, and eventually convince him to sign another contract? I highly doubt it.
