Not a surprise...progressives should create their own party. Then we won't have these stories.

I find American politics hilarious in that I don't personally believe in abortion and think that education and contraceptives can be utilized in most cases to prevent unwanted pregnancy. But at the same time I am not against a woman's right to choose.Currently in Canada there isn't a abortion law period and other than a small religious rump it is rarely discussed. In most advanced social democracies what you call progressives are basically run of the mill citizens. In Canada the conservative party would be the right of the democratic party and everything else left.

The Republican party's problem is its business model is hypocrisy - since they can't admit out loud that they just represent rich people, they have to pretend they represent some other group that is easily fooled, mainly evangelicals and non-college educated old white people. No offense intended, Popper.
The Democrats' problem is they are a poorly cobbled together coalition of minority issues - marijuana legalization, african american oppression, lgbtqetc. issues, abortion/women's rights (which only a minority of women are interested in), none of whom really give a crap about each other. So their business model is incompetence, which we've seen a great example of today. They can't hold together as a group. They're easily divided.
I think Brooks makes your point better on the Ds

David Brooks could have saved the key strokes because at this point in time a Conservative's opinion on the state of the Democratic party is pretty worthless. I'd reckon that he'd have different feelings about shutting down the government if it was 800000 Jewish people that were at risk of being deported for no other fact than the President is a racist petty ****.

Great read but two things stand out:
1. The DCCC is not some omnipotent force. There has to be a way around them when it comes to fundraising for more Progresive candidates. Might be time to build their own apparatus.
2. Democrats are the masters of self-immolation but there has to be a better way to move the needle than just tearing down Democratic candidates. Letting Republic candidates win is a good way to get zero progressive policies passed. Maybe getting money out of politics needs to be the focus of progressive candidates in the primaries thereby forcing their opponents to address the issue.

Exclusive: New signs Gates may be negotiating with Mueller's team
Washington (CNN)Former Trump campaign aide Rick Gates has quietly added a prominent white-collar attorney, Tom Green, to his defense team, signaling that Gates' approach to his not-guilty plea could be changing behind the scenes.
Green, a well-known Washington defense lawyer, was seen at special counsel Robert Mueller's office twice last week. CNN is told by a source familiar with the matter that Green has joined Gates' team.
Green isn't listed in the court record as a lawyer in the case and works for a large law firm separate from Gates' primary lawyers.

A real investigation with real indictments, real guilty pleas, and more coming. Mueller has what he needs from Trumps inner circle and now he is preparing the noose for Trump himself, it's going to be beautiful.

Money isn’t the problem, Dems often outraise Republicans. It really is a competence issue. Dems are constantly getting played.
I've been taught all my life to value service to the weak and powerless.

Re: Political Roundtable Part XVII
Trump has a obsessive need for loyalty and doesn't realize that civil servants can be of any political stripe and still do the job for the American public. After he fired Comey (Republican) acting Director McCabe in there 1st meeting was asked who he voted for.Plus questioned him on his wife Jill's run as a Democrat in a State Election in Virginia.

Now the Trumpster may be in the process of replacing his second chief of staff in General Kelly because of what he precises as a loyalty issue. The Trump need for sycophantic around him is truly nauseating.

We have many things that we need to discuss, something that doesn’t happen nearly enough anymore in this All-Caps dripping with disdain, Facebook-post world.
it’s difficult to communicate with real understanding over the net. But, we’re not sure it’s ever been more important to make the effort. It feels like we are in the most divisive time since the 60s, perhaps the 1860s, and we hope you share our belief that we’ve relegated that type of division to history.
We say “hope” because sometimes it seems like many of you on the right want this fight, and not on the internet, hence this letter.
****
First, there is a desperate need for us to establish some sort of “reality.” It is true that we like to get our news framed by Rachel Maddow, analysis rooted in a progressive perspective. You don’t. And that’s fine.
What is not fine is that you have resorted to getting your news exclusively from a station who’s founder wrote up his original proposal as "[A] plan to put the GOP on TV" and the same station today begins by forming Trump's reality instead of reporting it and then ends the day with a man who consults with Trump nightly. For now, we won’t even get into the fact that the flamboyantly liberal Business Insider reported that the same station misinforms its viewers more than all others.
