Why not just let him opt out and try to sign him...that way we don't lose assets

When can he opt out?

If hes unhappy and want out it wont cost much. Trading niko + holiday for him would be good for both teams

I would offer more fair package. Niko, any of young guys not named Lavine and Lauri. If they want Dunn + our 1st this year + Niko. Yes I am willing to give Dunn out. Dunn recovered some of his value, our 1st is likely top 8 (after we trade Niko and Dunn) + Niko at All-Star level play. If they want Holiday even better. Not sure why would they, but I would even give Denzel away if they want another young player on cheap contract. They will likely enter rebuild.

But no chance, 76ers and Celtics can put far better packages and picks than us. It's not even worth discussion.

What would it take for you to take a deal for Shumpert or J.R. Smith from Cleveland?

Wait, are we talking about Kawhi or Love here? I'd have to think the Spurs would still want a much larger haul to move him. Why are you giving up Kawhi without getting Lauri or LaVine back? If he's not disgruntled I doubt they'd even consider moving him for both thoe guys.

You know the answer. Nets pick ;)
This the only asset cavs have. And still bulls dont want bad contracts on any trade.
So yeah. Without includinf nets pick, cavs will have a hard time on any trade

Im talking about spurs rumors of he beinf unhappy. If he choses not to take his player option, then spurs lose him for nothing. And no teams will offer great assets for a rental.
Other than niko plus holiday, best they can is a rental for a rental at equal level.
That is.. assuming Kawhi Leonard wants out

Kawhi lol. Why would we want Love. Doesnt make any sense. That's just my idea. But that's only if he wants out.

Id be willing to trade Dunn, as you suggested, only and only IF Kawhi is committed to resign with us. And even them I'm not sure Id want to do this.

I'd rather increase offer with valentine or grant

Only reason why Id try to trade for him, at this moment, is because then all we would need is to draft a center. And even then, we'd have some options in the free agency to fill that spot too.

there is nothing really available for free agency for SF.

Hmm. Seems like Niko and our first this year would be two attractive pieces to the Spurs, but we would need a third to make it happen. Dunn could make sense for them, but then who in the world handles the ball for us? That's a tough trade given the uncertainty currently around Kawhi.

Well you can keep Grant in this case as 3andD PG. As long Lavine and Kawhi are main ball handlers and offense initiators.

Niko and our first? Id not trade our first. Our first is to draft the best available center (or best available player if we somehow end up with top 5 pick)

What are we sending out?

Rolo for Shump and the Cavs 2018 1st I'd do for sure.

Niko for Shump, Cavs 2018 1st, Osman and Miami 2020 2nd would probably work too.

This Kawhi stuff is so weird. It's hard to believe anyone, let alone the ultimate Spurs guy in Kawhi, would be unhappy there. I'd be pretty confident things sort themselves out in San Antonio, but if not, man is he going to be coveted.

Aldridge requested a trade just a few months ago from the Spurs.

The Spurs frankly look like **** moving forward aside from Kawhi.

it's harder to believe the spurs would trade a franchise-centerpiece player whose recent spat of injuries would absolutely tank his value around the league

i'm not exactly sure how things went from "there's a rift between kawhi and the spurs tied to the frustration re: his injury/rehab/recovery" to "i guess the spurs gotta trade kawhi now," but it seems...premature
