Nurkic is really, really bad on offense. And yet he keeps demanding touches. And he doesn't make it up with defense. Plus he can lose you a game single-handly if he gets unsettled.

Yeah Nurkic would be huge for this team, as he would've last year at a much lower asking price. It would pain me to move on from Jabari but they're both roughly the same age.
Nurkic always has really bad turnover rates and pretty bad foul rates. This season, he's shooting 47.7% from the floor - bad for a center, and if he's gonna contribute, that's where he has to do real well. And he's a poor defensive center. No question he has talent, but he's just not gettin it done.

I mean, DJ doesn't do anything for me either. But I'd rather give him some run and let him prove that before trading him for a guy who is basically a slightly better rebounding Henson.

Someone has to sell him on being the new Bogut who can actually shoot (but only when wide open)

I'd be terrified to offer Nurkic what he wants. He's the definition of a get paid and I'll balloon up to 300 the next season guy. Pass.

How do you feel about giving Jabari his next contract?
In general I think too much is made of Nurkic being a headchase. He was dicked around by a pretty mediocre Nuggets organization and lost his spot to a guy from a country who genocided his people. There was a lot at play.

Could see this being the case:

These are the kind of deals we are more likely to see at the trade deadline — small ones moving end-of-the-bench guys, or some rotation players. The buzz around the league is nothing may happen with the big names on the market (DeAndre Jordan or Kemba Walker).

Equally terrified. One guy is likely to tear an ACL again. The other guy is someone who has numerous character/effort red flags.

Yeah, I just don’t think it’s true that Nurkic has had numerous character issues. His teammates have loved him at both stops

While Nurkic is highly skilled and has significant room to hit his ceiling, his play evokes two major questions; why does he shoot such a poor percentage, and why has head coach Terry Stotts allegedly had to bench him three times this season over effort levels?
At 4/$40 I'll deal with the headaches. Anything more and I'll just get RoLo where I know my ceiling is limited but so is my floor.

Honestly I think he's just very emotional, both in a positive and a negative way. He can make a big play and rally up your team or he can throw the ball away when things don't go right. I would have loved to get him on the cheap when he was still a nugget, but now it's half a season before he gets paid. No thanks.

If Cleveland is thinking about trading love I say offer Middleton, Brogdon, Delly for Love and contracts to make it work. Start love at center and have a front line of love, Giannis and Jabari.

This 'getting paid" thing has always been a problem for so many players in the NBA, not just Nurkic. And it all comes back to the players and owners in the CBA. The NBA wanted a big "middle class" of players in exchange for a cap and tax.
What I find interesting is that if by luck your player becomes an RFA in a year with no stupid money, good decisions are made. But most of the time a random crew of guys with good agents and desperate teams end up pairing up.
The guaranteed contracts are killers for these dumb owners. Mozgov and Plumlee shouldn't be getting $60mm while Dedmon gets $14mm. The money should be pooled and go to the producers in a given year. Not sure how you figure that out however.

My opinion is that owners need to use RFA better. They seem to panic when a player is going to become a RFA and end up overpaying instead of letting it play out.

I've also been thinking about Love but I don't trade both Middleton + Brogdon for him.
Might not be worth trading either of them honestly. Depends on how Love would fit with Jabari, and of course whether we can trust Jabari to replace Brogdon / Middleton's productivity on the wing.
Love would be an awesome compliment to Giannis though.
Also if we make a deal with Cleveland I could easily see Bledsoe heading their way.

Could replace Middleton with Bledsoe but then we can't trade Brogdon so would have to be a different player.raferfenix wrote:nmeurett wrote:If Cleveland is thinking about trading love I say offer Middleton, Brogdon, Delly for Love and contracts to make it work. Getting Love would be awesome, I wouldn't sell off all our top assets for him though. Leaving the team short on depth to add Love is probably a negative move overall. No way I'm trading 2 of Middleton Bledsoe or Brogdon

Nurkic atm can't even dream of being as helpful to a very good team as 34yo Gortat currently is

I brought up love+ for midds+ and cavs fans wanted nothing to do with it. Said IT was who they wanted gone and if they trade love, it'll be to blow it up
