the thing that has impressed me the most is his hustle. if his offensive production was up, especially shooting 3s, then maybe his defensive liability could be masked a little. he's better suited to the 2nd unit.

That can be good thing but thing is (if you want to utilize him to the max), when he becomes the bench guy/6th man then he also needs to be high usage guy when he is playing with the second unit. He needs to be truly a 6th man, Ginobili like, and the second unit must be molded for him so he can lead them. Then when he plays with the starting unit he will go back to his stretch duties and Kevin Love type.

Dario's offensive improvements have been notable. The next hurdle he needs to overcome offensively is his ball security. He still turns it over more than ideal.

The longterm goal is for him to become acceptable defensively. Which I still can't quite see on the horizon. He has a long way to go on that end.

I think that the thing is, he still has that point guard insticts in him that were created when he was younger and smaller. When he started his pro career (17-18y old) he kind of stopped being the primary ball handler and probbably stopped working on his ball control and handles.

So he gets carried away because of those insticts, with risky passes and dribling trough 2-3 defenders.

Personaly i think it's a shame that he stopped working on his handles. Even though that enabled him to foucs on other things that are needed for modern PF.

A great December for Dario after a slow start in November. He's just a hard worker. His shot had improved so much. He's a heady player. Still getting better. Can't complain.

35% 3Pt
80% FT

December

Im impressed with his shooting lately. Very consistent 3 pt shot. He shoots it much more fluidly with a nice arch now. No hesitation or thought. Just lets it fly. He s starting to shoot em out of screens aswell. You can see he is feeling it. So nice to see and such a big difference from start of the season, let alone last year. I hope with this hot streak he solidifies this shooting mechanics.

Agreed.

He knows what he can do, and he rarely throws up a pure brick. His shots just LOOK good off of his hands.

Him starting slow might just be a thing we have to account for. Getting used to the NBA ball/3 point line after playing in Europe all summer or something. IDK could be made up.

If he can keep up those assists and 3 pt shooting then I might change my opinion of him. His defense will probably always be a negative, but he can overcome it if he becomes an huge plus offensively.

I dont think thats it. His 3 pt shot has improved since he came into the league. His 3pt pct at start of the season was better than last years 3pt pct. Same as his shot arch has improved and pct gotten better through out the year last year.
He is only a sophmore so his game will develop as the year continues. Everyone was impressed last year of his shot development and change with in the nba season. That is rare. One usually does it in the preseason. Same as his overall game improves as the season progresses.
Im guessing this is his MO.

Oh and he is *almost* at a neutral RPM as of the last time they updated (remember when that first came out about a month into the season he was like the worst in the league) and if he keeps playing like this it wouldn't shock me if he was a top 20 PF by the end of the year.

All of that stuff and the stats are cool and all....but do you see how high he jumps? Better yet how high he doesn't jump? Should trade him 8-)

His shooting improvements are real. His shot, and his free throw both look good off his hand every time.

Has missed only one free throw since Christmas. He’s 38-39.

So maybe the young Dario was/is developing his NBA game after all.....stunning.

Maybe he asked santa for better free throw shooting as his Christmas gift. You don't know whats going on with his mind just by watching his interviews

Dario is just doing what Dario does - he listens to criticism and works to get better. He's been doing that every level and he always gets the last laugh. His drive and tenacity is elite.

IIRC Dario shot >90% from the FT line in a season for Efes as well. He has the potential to be a good standstill shooter, just have to maintain that arc.

Dario's drives to the rim has been huge for us this season. It doesn't look good, but he bulldozes his way to the paint so effectively.
