What's your guys take on Brandon Knight? Is he part of the future plans?
Is there anything not including first rounders, Markkanen, Lavine, or Dunn, that you would want from the Bulls in exchange for taking on Knight's salary and the rights to the Milwaukee pick? The Bulls could absorb Knight's contract outright, so you don't even have to take anything back if you don't want.
Curious what your thoughts are.
I would give it some serious thought. But probably not unless we found out we could sign a max guy and needed to move the contract for space. But that pick is only top 3 protected next year, so an injury to the Freak or something could make it a decent pick.
I'd probably hold off. Why would you want Knight? In all likelihood that pick won't be that great and might not convey for a couple of years.
Why would the Bulls want Knight? Well, they don't really want him per se, they want the pick that comes with him. Knight can't play this year which means it helps out our tank also, which is a major benefit for us. He would potentially slot in as a backup guard for the Bulls next year and in 2019-2020. I think the Bulls should look to consolidate so that a bunch of contracts expire in 2020 so that they can make a run at Anthony Davis. Knight can't play this year which means it helps out our tank.
Mirotic is not part of the Bulls' future. Markkanen is already looking like a star in the making, and Portis needs to get more minutes, so Mirotic is the older odd man out.
One of Mirotic/Portis has to go due to their fight and Mirotic not wanting to be on the same team as Portis anymore. Grant is also not part of the Bulls' future with Dunn's emergence, and the Bulls want to get a look at Payne and build his value back up.
The pick is likely to convey this year, and while an injury to Giannis would heavily add value to the pick, it also is unlikely and could be said for any team/pick. From the Bulls' perspective, I don't approach this as an expectation for a high lotto pick, but as a late lotto or just outside of it. That's just the risk you take though, with any pick. I see the pick as likely to convey this year in the 14-16 range.
That's it.
