I mean, you were on the Thon Maker All Star train too.

So you're saying he's going to be good?
Because in the first minute of watching him play I said BUST. And every minute since then my scouting has proven to be correct.

I'm saying it's comically early to be making any determination on the kid's career.

Except that Horst has been with the organization for the last 9 years, it's not like he wasn't familiar with the scouts, or the information, or the workouts. He wasn't suddenly walking into a situation where he was forced to look at players in an entirely different range. He wasn't just appointed, he was in the room the whole time. Horst has been aggressive, I like it, but he doesn't deserve a pass for Wilson AT ALL.
You act like Host’s voice was the most important one in the room last year. At best it was 6th and I highly doubt it was even that high.
He was just happy to be there at that point. Since then he got a great trade done and removed one of if not two of the voices in front of his.
Someone had a gif of little finger before and it was absolutely perfect. This is absolutely an early version little finger move.
BTW- can anybody tell me what Kidd’s firing means for Thorn’s involvement in this organization? I would love to know.
It doesn't matter if Horst's voice was loudest in the room under Hammond because it was loudest when we were on the board. What matters is that he was in the same room, seeing the same scouting reports, and generally receiving the exact same information as everyone else in the room. Director of Basketball Operations isn't some bit position like you're making it out to be. With all of that same information, HE decided on Wilson.
I'd buy it if he was completely new to the organization, unfamiliar with the scouts, still getting a grasp of team needs, etc. He wasn't.

You don’t think Kidd and Thorn had substantially more say in who was drafted last year? The owners probably also had influence and ultimately the final say.
Hell I would bet on Alex Lasrys opinions carrying more weight in the first round of last years draft than Horst’s.
Last year at this time we had such a muddied hierarchy I had no idea who was making the moves. Today all I see is Horst at the top and it is glorious.

No. The writing was already on the wall for Kidd. Reports coming out now are only making that more evident.

That was before the surge at the end and the GM shakeup.
If Kidd had absolutely no say in who was picked there why was he and Thorn holding private workouts with draftees?
BigO wrote:The idea that Jason Kidd was responsible for Giannis's improvement is pure nonsense. Kidd is not responsible for improvement or lack of improvement in any player. It's the same logic that blames Dom Capers for not developing the trash that he was given on defense. Players win games and their improvement is 95% based on their work ethic and talent.
And even the 5% that may be due to good teaching would fall on the assistant coaches who actually work on player development, not the head coaches.
The key to any successful sports team is the general manager. It is he who gets the players and the players are always the key. And that is why Kidd had to go. He was an average to a below average coach, but his main problem was that his intrusion into player trades and drafts was hurting the team. I didn't trust his judgement and was worried that the new owners thought Kidd could do no wrong. Whether it was an incident this week or some other reason he was fired, it's the right call.
""He was a big part of my success," Antetokounmpo said. "He trusted me, he put the ball in my hands, he motivated me on a daily basis, he pushed me to be great and not to be mediocre.
"I was 19 when he came and he said he was going to put the ball in my hands. The first time I wasn't ready. I told him, 'Coach, I'm not ready to create and make plays for the team.' He said, 'OK, we're going to take our time.' The next year, he put the ball in my hands and I was ready."

My bet: end of season, or when he gets tossed into a trade as a leveler... Whichever happens first.

Surge at the end? Thorn and Kidd only private workouts with draftees? When someone in the office is asked if Kidd will be fired and his response is "probably not" in addition to the reports of management souring on Kidd due to his past personnel decisions, his ultimate power was limited more than some believe around here as it pertains to last season.
