Best teams to never win a Super Bowl
Reading about the Chargers team on this list makes me cringe, especially with our kicking woes this past year and terrible luck the last couple years..
Particularly the parts about "Biggest Weakness" and "Why Did They Lose"....anyone remember that game?
http://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/22132691/nfl-best-teams-never-win-super-bowl-ranking-all-32-franchises#chargers
Any teams missing? Too high or too low?

Re: Best teams to never win a Super Bowl
I don't have much problem with the Top 5... and the '68 Cowboys belong there. That was one serious kick in the nuts for young Otis.
Only team missing (IMO) - the '78 Cowboys that lost to the Steelers in SB XIII. That game was for the team of the decade and both teams were great that season. Steelers sealed their destiny as a dynasty. Had the Cowboys won - it would have been the other way around.

The 07 Pats & early 90's Bills teams stick out to me. I'm too young to remember anything before the 90's.

For me its the 1968, 1970 & 1978 Dallas Cowboys. 3 great teams for sure. I didn't see the 1968 game live. I was too young unlike Otis.

1968... so damn good with the 12-2 record... and the effin Browns beat them. That was it for Meredith. I'll bet the Jets wouldn't have beat them.

Re: Best teams to never win a Super Bowl
I'm surprised that the 1993 Oilers aren't on there. Number 4 scoring offense and the number 4 scoring defense. They had a first round bye and I can't remember if they had home field throughout. They ran off 11 straight wins after starting 1-4 and just gagged against the Chiefs in the divisional round. It was also the last season that the Oilers were worth a crap as the Houston Oilers. They were good enough to win the Super Bowl that year, even with Buddy Ryan swinging on the OC.

Re: Best teams to never win a Super Bowl
this list only includes one season from each franchise
'98 vikings would probably be the second best vikings team of all time

Was that the one that finished 35-31?

I remember that. I thought that was easily the best team in the NFL that year...very exciting offense and tough as nails D. Then they run into Joe who wouldn't let the Chiefs lose.
I think the Oilers would have rolled through the playoffs and over the Bills and Cowboys if they didn't screw up against the Chiefs.

Yeah. And Cowboys fans as well as Steeler fans can recite that game chapter and verse. It was 20 years before a Super Bowl ever came close to matching the drama in that one.

Re: Best teams to never win a Super Bowl
I don't know how the '98 Vikings aren't on that list. 15-1 and the best offense of all time to that point.
Edit: I see how they did this now. I can't really compare the '98 Vikings to a team that played 10 years before I was born.

Nope.
That was during that time when the 49ers vs. Cowboys NFC Championship game was considered the Super Bowl. The Oilers had already gone into SF and beaten the Niners. It wasn't a stretch to believe they couldn't do it again to beat the Cowboys or Bills either.

And as we all know there is a massive difference between winning a regular season game against a team whose focus was beating their nemesis in the playoffs a few weeks later and ramping it up in the playoffs which the Oilers were utterly incapable of doing in that era.
Because - they were the Oilers. Who couldn't even beat the Chiefs... at home. The Chiefs... who were beaten easily by the Bills the following week.
Cowboys would have steamrolled them in the playoffs - Niners would have too. The Oilers of that era simply were not built for playoff football.

We watched the tragedy unfold. We did as we were told, we bought and sold. It was the greatest show on Earth...but then it was over.

Let's not even discuss the still fresh wound of Jacoby Jones muffing that punt.

Only pain I feel is from Jimmy leaving and a chance at 4 consecutive Super Bowl trophies leaving with him. That and the gas from those terrific enchiladas I had last night.
Speaking of which... I’ll be back.
