I don't even see DET jumping on that, losing a guy they traded for (Bradley), 1 first and a potential young piece for 1 year of Holiday and unproven Portis.

I amended it to replace DET with NOP.

CHI-->PHX: Mirotic, Grant
PHX-->CHI: Knight, MKE 1st (which only conveys if it is 11-16 this year, 4-16 next year, then top 7 protected, then unprotected by 2021)

Follow with this:

CHI-->NOP: Portis
NOP-->CHI: Diallo, NOP 1st (lotto protected 2018, top 7 protected 2019, unprotected 2020)

Then finish with this:

CHI-->NYK: Felicio
NYK-->CHI: Noah, NYK 1st (top 1 protected this year, unprotected next year), CHI 2nd

Net outcome for the Bulls:

CHI Out: Mirotic, Grant, Portis, Felicio

CHI In:
Bad Contracts: Knight, Noah (both expire in 2020, and Knight can't play this year to hurt the tank)
Young piece to develop: Diallo
Picks:
NOP 1st (probably in the early 20's)
MKE protected 1st (expect to convey this year between 13-16)
NYK protected 1st (likely to convey this year around 10-12)
CHI 2nd (which should end up in the low-mid 30's this year).

Finish the season with this:

PG Dunn/Payne
SG Lavine/Nwaba
SF Holiday/Valentine/Zipser
PF Markkanen/Diallo
C Lopez/Noah

With this, Noah and Knight expire in 2020. Bulls pick ends up solidly in the top 5 going into the lottery, with 3 more firsts coming between this coming draft and the 2021 draft, plus an early 2nd to use on what could be a rotation level player.

What’s MKE?

Incoming Chicago:
Evan Turner
Moe Harkless
2018 1st (Utah)
2018 1st (Portland)

Incoming Utah:
Nikola Mirotic
Denzel Valentine
Caleb Swanigan
2018 2nd Round Pick (Chi)

Incoming Portland:
Derrick Favors
Justin Holiday
Jerian Grant

Bulls take on a bunch of salary but get 2 1st round picks. They also get considerably worse, which is kind of the point.

Portland frees up capspace to try and sign a FA to pair with Damien Lillard and CJ McCollum.

Utah folds and gives up a 1st but are able to get 2 former 1sts (Valentine & Swanigan)

I think we got a winner here.

Two trades I'd like to see if we embrace the tank:

Trade 1:
Bulls Trade: Niko Mirotic
Nets Trade: 2018 Raptors 1st Round Pick and Jeremy Lin

Reasoning: The Nets have no incentive to tank and have done a good job of adding talent. Niko has a chance to shine and is more valuable than the Raptors 1st. By making the Nets worse, we at least leap frog them in the standings (Cavs own their pick). On our side of the trade, we add a late 1st, make ourselves worse, and add an injured player in Lin who doesn't hurt our tank but could potentially be a solid back up next season.

Trade 2:
Bulls Trade: Robin Lopez and Justin Holiday
Cavs Trade: 2018 Cavs 1st Round Pick, Channing Frye, and Iman Shumpert

Reasoning: Cavs are rumored to be interested in adding another big. Supposedly they're interested in Favors, but I would argue that Lopez brings a more diverse skill set to their team. Holiday is also a better version of Shumpert, and fits their roster really well. For us, we add another late first, but really embrace the tank by getting rid of our three most productive vets. We probably buy out Frye so that he's not impacting our record in any way.

The two late firsts may not seem like much, but they would be useful for helping up in the draft via trade.

Homo, i like your thought process. id make a small modification..
Bulls call Cavs saying they want their Nets pick and will offer Niko and willing to take on some contract specially if they take Lopez and/or Holiday.

also tell then that if they dont agree we will send Niko to Nets and worsen their pick ;)

so .. the trades would be
Lopez, Niko and Holiday for Nets pick, thompson, smith and cedi osman
if they dont do it
then we tell we go to nets to trade
niko + arciadono *or grant or payne) for toronto pick, lim and dinwiddie (want him back!)

desperation tank trade as niko is worse more than that.
id rather go to phoenix and see if they want niko. they will have 3 1st rounders!!

so we go to phoenix and offer Niko and Holiday for Miami or bucks pick and take alex len (bet they will lose him) and dudley
if they dont then we go deal with bucks
lopez for delenadova and 2020 lotto protected pick

lol, didnt put too much thought.

idea ids to pressure them and punish then ;)

Trading Lopez would not be good for the development of this team.
This trade could actually be done without Lopez. We have enough cap space. If Cavs add Rose, they dip under the tax line...
Other trade is fine

Hmmm... Lebron just drafted AD and Boogie on his AS team. They may have an incentive to win more and make cap room. Justin Holiday for a big contract and their 1st?

How about this:
Ind trades: Al Jefferson, TJ Leaf, 2018 1st rd pick(lottery protected)
Chi trades: Nikola Mirotic, Justin Holiday

Why for Indy: They unload AlJeff to free up space (do note only $4M is guaranteed for next year), Niko is a huge boost on Offense and 3 pt. shooting which they need, Holiday provides quality wing depth, which they also could use. Note, Indy is currently only 2 games out of 1st in the Central. This could be a move that pushes them over the top, or at the very least guarantees a top 4 seed.

Why for Bulls: Aids the tank, doesn't take back much salary, gets a 20 something first rounder.

Looks good, except I'd do Top 12 protected to get more chances at getting the pick in case someone gets injured.
Might also want to find another small salary instead of Leaf as I know Indiana value him.

If we don't get a good pick for niko and we didn't test him playing alongside with Lauri, then ..

Niko for Enes Kanter

Thought about it, and - NO. Kanter is an awesome inside scorer and rebounder, but a terrible defender. We need a rim protector, first and foremost. As a Knicks fan (as my 2nd team), I'd try RoLo and Holiday for Noah and their 1st. I think both guys were good in Knicks uni's and Noah may make enough noise to make the Knicks think about getting rid of that pick to be rid of that mistake.

I know this is a bit contrarian, but I'd love to buy low on Jae Crowder. He's having a terrible season but I'm pretty sure it's because Cleveland is a circus and he wants no part of it.
He was one of the best contract as far as value just last summer. These baby Bulls have some similarities with the Celtics (spacing and playing hard) and could use a low usage, high energy 3 and D. I would expect a rebound similar to DeMarre Carroll with BKN, potentially restoring his value for this summer...

Something like Holiday, Mirotic, Grant for Crowder, Shumpert, Rose/Calderon, and CLE 1st could make some sense as Bulls would probably still decline overall but have a strong foundation for next year + assets and cap space.

Unless Cleveland can turn Love into an asset, I don't see them wanting Niko. I could see them bite on:

RoLo, Felicio, Holiday for Crowder, Thompson and their 1st.

Having Niko there they would be in the similar situation as we have with Lauri and Niko. Granted, Love can play center.
They would be better off trading for Rolo (if he trades with us) and use their nets pick for something else.
Or use us to get Favors

To be fair, I think Niko has become a much better defender than Love.

Looks like a serious injury to Demarcus Cousins. If it’s long term what about this:
Niko and Holiday to NO
Bulls get E’twain Moore, some cap fillers and NOs 1st rounder in 18.

Should definitely help with the tank and another 1st rounder in the high teens to low 20s.

Mirotic and Pondexter for Ryan Anderson, Zhou Qi, 2018 2nd Rounder, 2019 2nd rounder, and unprotected 2020 1st rounder.

Return to Chicago Bulls
