Isn't Salazar like a #5? Broxton for him would make more sense

Salazar’s had the dominant stuff to be a #2 but HR issues and arm issues have been a problem. Broxton would not be enough.

Broxton borders on being a throwaway player and pitching trumps all.

That guy was being sarcastic and just pointing that he doesn't think Salazar is that good. I get it, he's still unproven. The logic is that he's about to blow up if he stays healthy and you're buying low on him, that's the hope anyway if they did it. Everyone can see the stuff and there's a reason he's been hyped for years. Just hasn't put it all together yet. Of course it's a risk but if you're choice is Santana basically straight up for him or Santana/Burns/Ortiz/one more lower level guy for Archer. I could see the logic in going with Salazar.

If Villar bounces back and Manny plays like he did last year we will have the best lineup in baseball.

Salazar has a 3.56 career FIP which would rank as the 13th best FIP in baseball in 2017.

Thoughts about a deal built around Santana for Stroman? Toronto being heavily in on Cain, Santana could be an appealing alternative for them.

Wouldn't be shocked if Neil Walker came back on a short deal if he can't find what he wants long term.

We could a top 5 bench and a top 5 lineup in baseball next year with good defense. Our pitchers should have a pretty good year

I think they believe Villar will bounce back.

As it stands, assuming Santana is dealt, our lineup is good enough to try Villar/Sogard again at 2B. If Sogard isnt as good or Villar doesnt bounce back to be passable, try another Walker-esque deal or see if Walker would be interested in a 2 year deal. Any longer is pointless if Hiura stays this good.

I like Walker on a 2 year deal. I'd do a team option on year 3
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Toronto isn't trading Stroman, but if hypothetically they put him on the block, it would force us to also include Burnes and other prospects, along with Santana, assuming they even view him very highly which we don't know because of his problems on defense.

He sure can hit, but is a butcher in RF. Those defensive woes are the only reason he's being shopped given he was our best hitter and easily could get better.

At this point, trading Santana seems a lock and if for a pitcher, it makes sense. That said, losing him from the lineup is a blow. He hits for average, for power, walks a lot, and is only 24 so it's not hard to envision him putting up some .900 plus OPS seasons.

Why not just move him or Braun to first?

This has been the biggest impediment to me emotionally investing in the Brewers for a long time. On one level I think these moves are good and am excited about them. But given the Brewers limited financial resources compared to the big markets, we're impaired if they don't pan out. Sucks to have to shoot perfect on this stuff while the LA teams, Red Sox, NYY, etc can misfire on stuff like this and still be fine.

That said I hope Mark A. keeps spending.
