Trade Deadline General Discussion Thread

Post#1 » by Northface82 » Fri Jan 26, 2018 2:14 pm

The Dallas Mavericks would trade Wesley Matthews ahead of the Feb. 8th trade deadline if they receive a first round pick inreturn for him.

Matthews signed a four-year, $70 million deal with the Mavericks in the 2015 offseason.

Matthews has a player option for 18-19 that he's likely to exercise. Matthews' contract expires after the 18-19 season.

While Matthews' play has declined, he is still shooting 38.9 percent on three-pointers this season.

Wesley Matthews on the move. Would he be a fit on this current raptors core?

Not for a first especially with the way he's playing. Jonas and Bruno possibly?

He'd be good to come off the bench though to bring some scoring stability especially with Powell not performing to expectations.

Yeah, I think having Miles + Matthews off the bench would be absolutely beast.

Wright or FVV
Miles
Matthews
Siakam
Poeltl

would make quite a scary bench unit (granted they all hit open shots :banghead: :banghead:).

Not quite, as we can always get a third team in on it (although very unlikely). I am disappointed in you Mr Budda Man.

Other names that are confirmed available by multiple sauces:
-one of Mirotic/Portis
-Kevin Love or Tristan Thompson
-Kemba Walker

I just don’t see how we can get away with moving Jonas without getting a big man in return, it would put us at a disadvantage on the boards and in any matchup against a team with a strong big man upfront. I love Yak and he is a better team defender than JV, but he’s not strong enough to hold his ground in the post against a big bruiser.

What may work is JV + Bebe+ Bruno + Alfonzo for Wes Matthews and Noel. Noel will have to agree to the trade (don't see why he won't).

This board hates JV so be prepared to get thrown some shade. Also this board loves when Delon Wright is our leading rebounder with 6.

Who would the starters be then with JV out? You'd have to insert Miles, Siakam, or Poeltl into the lineup. The only issue with this trade would be rebounding, we'd get killed on the glass.

We're not in a good position to make a strong move at the deadline. Anything we do would be lateral or a trade-off at best unless Masai gets really creative.

Our lack of a tradable 1st round pick makes that pretty true.

In before: Cavs offering first round pick, Channing Frye and Iman Shumpert for Wes Matthews and Nerlens Noel

This is something that has been mentioned before. Wes and Nerlens for JV and filler would be great, they'd fit perfectly here. But this was before all this 1st for Wes crap Dallas is talking.

A key point being missed here is that Wes Matthews is not very good.

I don't want to turn this into a trade ideas thread, but my dream is a 3-way (hello!).

Toronto out: JV + BeBe
Toronto in: Love

Cleveland out: Frye + 1st round pick (top 5 protected)
Cleveland in: Hill + Koufos

Sacramento out: Hill + Koufos
Sacramento in: JV + BeBe + Frye + 1st round pick (top 5 protected)

Toronto gets a better offensive player in Love, especially 3pt shooting, without a decline in rebounding. Post-defense takes a hit, although Love has improved overall in terms of team defense.

Cavs get their big PG and a big man who can play inside that is arguably playing better than Tristan Thompson.

Kings get a late lottery pick which they can try and package with their own to move up this year if they don't win the lottery. They also save around $3M this year and ~$12M over the next 2 years. They get a good C in Jonas instead of taking on the dead weight of Shumpert, but can probably move his contract if needed as it is pretty reasonable for what he brings.

Cleveland loses Love for George HAHAHAHAHAHA wtf is this.
