Recycled Game Thread: Hawks & Hornets Part Deux -- 1/31

Hornets' Howard motivated to play hometown Hawks

ATLANTA -- Dwight Howard helped beat his former team twice in Charlotte. Now the Hornets center gets a shot at the Hawks in his hometown of Atlanta.

Plenty of emotion should be on display Wednesday night as the Hornets and Hawks meet for the third of four games this season.
Howard can expect plenty of boos, though, in his first game with Southeast Division rival Charlotte at Philips Arena after last season didn't live up to expectations for the former All-Star or the Hawks.

Howard has averaged 15.9 points, 12.7 rebounds and 1.73 blocks for the Hornets.

The game with Charlotte concludes a stretch of nine home dates in 10 games for the Hawks, who are 4-4 so far.

Atlanta is 11-15 at home but 4-20 on the road.

Hawks aiming to ride momentum into Charlotte

The Atlanta Hawks will look to ride the momentum created by a generally successful homestand when they make a one-day trip to Charlotte to face the Hornets on Friday night.

The Hawks went 3-3 on their just completed homestand, with wins over San Antonio, New Orleans and Utah in the last five games.

They've even won their most recent road game, toppling the Denver Nuggets 110-97 on Jan. 10.

It's all part of a feel-good month for the Hawks, whose John Collins was selected to participate in the Rising Stars showcase during the NBA All-Star Game festivities in February in Los Angeles.

The 20-year-old rookie was playing in just his second NBA game when he fouled out of Atlanta's 109-91 loss at Charlotte in October in just 15 minutes. He also had five points, two rebounds and two blocked shots in those 15 minutes.

That defeat propelled the Hawks into an eight-game losing streak that has had them at or near the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings ever since.

It also will mark the second time Howard will go up against a team he helped take to the playoffs last season with a 43-39 record.
Statistically, he has done better for the Hornets (15.6 points per game, 12.7 rebounds) than the Hawks (13.5, 12.7).

The earlier double-double against Atlanta was one of 28 he has posted this season. He ranks fifth in the NBA in that category.

The Hornets have alternated wins and losses in the first four games of a five-game homestand that ends Friday.

Must lose game here. If we do take the L I can root for our boys to beat overrated John Wall and the Wizards guilt free tomorrow.

:D

Just in time! Hawks, now really in need of a loss to stay near the bottom of the NBA and hopefully one of those
really high draft picks in the lottery.

D8 wants to put the kill on his former Atlanta team, showing them just what they are missing since he's gone.
He took out his anger on them the last time they met and now looks forward to doing it again.

Dang. It may not happen. As bad as the Hawks want that draft pick, they may not be in any mood to simply
roll over and play dead for the Hornets. Toronto may have made them so mad that they will be willing to
take out their anger on the Hornets.

D8 was wonderful, he thought, in our last meeting. Hawks may have more healthy big men than before. He
may not just "have his way" inside. Toronto killed us there and we just might adjust. You never know!

Need Dwight to hold up his end of the bargain and continue dominating his past teams.

Hilarious!!
I guess we possibly messed Howards plans up. He signed with us to fulfill his contract, years wise, but he didn't workout. He most likely picked us over joining a contender to win a ring with.

Charlotte was 6.5 point favorite going into the game and they currently lead by 8.

Huge 3rd for us so now the game is close.
Charlotte will need to contain us to beat us tonight.
Tanking looks suspect tonight but I expect Charlotte to go on a run to win.

Charlotte went on a run as expected and won by 11 points.

Dwight Howard lived up to his comment that he would kill us and scored 18 points, 15 rebounds, and had 7 block shots. Great job Dwight..lol

Good game. Took the necessary L in a game where Baze increased the trade value and Prince bounced back.

Side note: I don't hate Dwight Howard. I don't like him as a player in today's pace and space NBA and I'm glad we traded him, but he's never trashed our fanbase and was a good figure in the community off the court. I hope we don't boo him on Wednesday.

8-)

Great game! Kept it close with sometimes taking the lead until the last couple of minutes. D8 tried to
kill us and he had wonderful stats to satisfy his ego. We did get under his skin. When he was called for
two of his fouls that were called, one right after the other, his attitude got him a tec. foul. Great!
He was already getting all star calls, actually calling the most obvious ones.

TANK TANK TANK TANK TANK

Had me worried until late in the 4th. All these needs of our losing team are not that great. Over and over,
we watch as this team plays almost every game that we lose so close. Just think. How many games have
the Hawks played where our opponent simply ran away and hid, then cleared their bench for the forth
quarter, resting their starters and giving their back up players a lot of experience?

Just to prove, to ourselves at least, sometimes, against one of the top teams, we park our tank on the sideline
and win the game. We're good enough to do that more. We're good but not great. Our only hope seems to
lie in the upcoming draft. After coming this far it will hurt so bad if this doesn't work out....
