I think this trade would be beneficial to both New York and Portland.

NY Out:
SF-> Thomas (3yr @ $6.6M)
C-> Hernangomez (2yr @ $1.4M)
SG-> Dotson (3yr @ $1.1M)

Portland Out:
SF-> Harkless (3yr @ $10.1M)
PF-> Vonleh (1yr @ $3.5M - will be RFA)

New York gets the best player in the trade (when he's engaged) in Harkless. He moves into the SF and Hardaway goes to SG and Lee goes to the bench (or is traded). Playing in front of a home crowd will help make sure he gives full effort. Vonleh has shown to be a good rebounder and defender. Would find a nice role off the bench behind Porzingis.

Portland gets out of the tax this year. They down grade from Harkless to Thomas, but get a chance to evaluate prospects in Hernangomez and Dotson.

"WHEN HE'S ENGAGED" is what scares me... I've purposely watched Harkless this yr since we had a chance to get him in a Carmelo scenario - and I must say he seems to have regressed from his Orlando days. As much as I dislike Thomas, I wouldn't do this trade without receiving a pick back. Vonleh hasn't shown much and quite frankly, I'd rather see what Hicks can do in the NBA.

I agree with this response.. need a pick.. could be conditional protected top 20 then changed into other protections or second rounders the following years etc..

Also will like to see what Hicks can do... having a good overall year in the GL.

Knicks taking offers for Enes according to Steve Kyler (any relation to Steven Tyler?) of basketballinsiders.com.

http://www.basketballinsiders.com/nba-daily-the-nba-trade-deadline-buyers-and-sellers/

New York Knicks

The Knicks have been kicking the tires on their options at the trade deadline and one of the players more likely moved than not is big man Willy Hernangomez.

The Knicks kicked the tires on several trade options before agreeing to sign Trey Burke and found the market to be a little bare, with limited interest that made sense for them.

The Knicks have reportedly fielded conversations on potential free agent big Kyle O’Quinn, swingman Courtney Lee and potential free agent Enes Kanter.

The prevailing thought around the NBA is that Hernangomez is mostly the guy moved, but that the return may not be nearly that sexy.

The Knicks seem like they will do something at the deadline, but the odds of it being a huge team altering deal seems remote.

http://www.nj.com/knicks/index.ssf/2018/01/nba_trade_rumors_knicks_taking_offers_for_enes_kan.html

While Kyler doesn't categorize a Kanter deal as imminent or even likely, the fact that teams are calling about the 25-year-old should be intriguing for a Knicks front office that has to think outside the box to become a true contender. If a huge offer for Kanter came in, the Knicks would be foolish not to consider cashing in from a surplus.

Given with what has transpired with Fultz, if Philly came to you today and offered Fultz for Ntilkina, would you do it?

No. There's something seriously wrong with what's happened with Fultz, and I don't want anything to do with it. Healthy Fultz is worth Frank and more, but this version of him isn't worth much.

So, NY ADDS salary AND also sends out the younger player.

also, i'd like the knicks to sign beasley to a cheap extension, or trade him while they can get something for him. package him to a PO team that needs a scorer off the bench.

What I can't comprehend about Fultz is why don't they just shut him down for the season, get surgery, and mute all Fultz talk. The fact that they're letting him shoot and even get it recorded is insane to me.

Honestly, I think it's equally mental as much as it is physical right now. If he can't raise the ball above his head to shoot, he needs to fix that. Either by surgery if necessary, or by rehab. I think part of it is absolutely mental though, the same way Chuck can't swing a golf club without freaking out.

That would be interesting if it was mental. Would be a great 30 for 30.

But, at this point they should get him out of a court. Stay away for a while. Get every MRI and X-Ray done and figure out if anything's wrong. When I tore my rotator cuff and labrum in the Summer, I didn't get my shooting form really back until like December so I definitely think he's nursing something.

Hard to make salaries work for Enes, but KOQ could be a nice fit. Work those phones Perry!

I have a hot take. If the Heat get the Cavs in the 1st round, Heat win that series. Awful matchup for Cavs. JRich and James Johnson have clamps on the wings, Whiteside rim protecting... too much grit.

Now that the road trip is over, its time to finally make some changes. Kanter, Lee, KOQ and LFT should all get shipped out of town in order to get some picks back. However, I dont think that one of those players in a vacuum can net us a 1st rounder. So in order to get those we might have to take some bad contracts back. Which I would be good with as long as those contracts expire in the same year as Noah. This is what I would do:

Kanter
Thomas

for

Turner
Harkless
POR 1st Lottery Protected

------------------------------------------------

Lee
KOQ

for

Hill
Cunningham
NOP 1st Lottery Protected

------------------------------------------------

Roll the Season with:

Frank/Burke/Jack
Turner/Dotson/Baker
Hardaway/Hill/MCD
Beasley/Harkless/Cunningham
Porzingis/WHG/Noah

------------------------------------------------

At draft night, I focus on getting some wings and 4s who fit nicely next to KP (with that 1 additional haymaker in simmons):

NYK 1st (JJJ)
POR 1st (TBJ)
NOP 1st (Simmons)

CHI 2nd (Bonga)
NYK 2nd (Spalding)

Cut Baker!!!

Frank/Burke/Simmons
TBJ/Turner/Dotson
Hardaway/Hill/Bonga
JJJ/Harkless/Spalding
Porzingis/WHG/Noah

Would be a fun team to watch, with a lot of promising youth to develop and all bad contracts expiring in 2020. Hope the front office starts doing SOMETHING. The current team is just painful to watch. Especially when those games you watch normally start at 1 AM local time :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

So we'd have 3 first round picks and 2 second round picks in this draft and you don't have us getting a center that can play both sides of the ball especially on defense to play next to KP?? KP is a PF right now, maybe in 2-3 years he can put enough weight/size on to play center full time but the kid can't even make it through half a season getting banged around at PF but you want to play him at center? This draft is loaded with some really intriguing kids at the center spot and if we're gonna have 3 first round picks, we need to get Ayton or Baglley or Bamba or W.Carter or R.Williams to play center.
