Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
I like this kid a lot. Several months ago I did a player ranking and I had him ranked in my top 5. The only issue is, I thought he was a legit 6’3.
I’m nitpicking here, but one of the main reasons why I had him rated this high is because I thought he was slightly under 6’4 coupled with that elite athleticism he has:
D.J. Chark - WR - Tigers
Draft Analyst's Chris Tripodi passes along that after solid Senior Bowl practices on Tuesday and Wednesday, LSU WR D.J. Chark kicked it up on a notch on Thursday.
"Always open and catching every pass he was thrown, Chark won in every area of the field and was fundamentally sound catching the football," Tripodi writes, adding that the 6-foot-2, 196-pounder is perhaps the fastest wideout on hand in Mobile. This is exactly the kind of showing that Chark needed for the week given that the offense he played on at LSU rarely catered to the pass. Even in a setting which was not ideal, he averaged 21.9 yards per reception last year --sixth-best in the NCAA -- and was a wicked weapon in the return game to boot. A selection early on Day 2 would not be beyond the pale for the speedster and he may well rise on boards when he puts up what should be strong numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine.

Marcus Davenport - DL - Roadrunners
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline relays that the Oakland Raiders are considering using their first-round pick (No. 10) to select UTSA edge rusher Marcus Davenport.
It's still incredibly early to be linking players and teams, but the Raiders should at least be watched when it comes to Davenport moving forward during the evaluating process. The 6-foot-5, 259-pound UTSA standout could potentially fit either as a defensive end or -- in a 3-4 scheme -- as an outside linebacker. We had mostly been viewing Davenport as a late Day 1 or early Day 2 prospect, but Pauline's note makes us wonder if the Raiders might not be the only team eyeing him as a potential fringe top-10 selection.

Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
Brett Toth - T - Black Knights
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline relays that Army T Brett Toth is "really creating a buzz for himself in scouting circles."
Toth (6'5/304) was a standout performer during the East-West Shrine Game last week and has been dominant down in Mobile in his Senior Bowl practice work. Per Pauline, on Wednesday, he "shut down every top defender who lined up across from him." All of this is very encouraging and in ideal circumstance, Toth could very well be in play for a second-round selection. There's a caveat here, though, as the offensive lineman has a two-year commitment to serve in the Army now that he's graduated. It's possible that the Department of Defense could allow him a waiver for that commitment, though it's very uncertain whether he will actually receive that. The DoD publicly said in 2017 that they would stop providing such waivers for athletes looking to play professionally, but Pauline writes that he's been told this is not a policy that's "carved in stone." Toth's draft slot will very much depend on whether or not he receives a waiver.

Starting to like this TE class (although I still want[b] Tyler Eiffert).
To some extent, that’s how I feel about the ILB / MLB position:
Leighton Vander Esch - LB - Broncos
Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline notes that the Cowboys are a "name to keep in mind" when it comes to Boise State LB Leighton Vander Esch.
"The more tape scouts watch on Vander Esch the more they like him, and I fully expect the athletic linebacker to blow up the combine," Pauline wrote from the Senior Bowl. The 6-foot-4, 240-pounder is a staunch defender against the run, one who possesses palatable length and measurables for NFL play. As Pauline alludes to, the first big step in Vander Esch's evaluating process will come at the NFL Scouting Combine next month. A first-round selection should very much be in play for the Boise State standout. If he falls to Day 2, we don't expect him to sit around for too longer in the second round.

I mean, he's 6'2 5/8". I don't know that those 3/8" make a big difference.
Seems like a decent class in terms of WR size. 6/13 receivers at the Senior Bowl are 6'2" or taller, and all but two are effectively 6'1" or taller. I think adding a guy like Lazard - who has some questions about hands and explosiveness that will probably cause him to fall, but has also shown real flashes in the red zone - could be worth adding in the 4th or 5th.

CrimsonCrew wrote:Even by Senior Bowl standards, this was an odd year for conflicting reports. I swear that half the articles I read about the final practice were emphatic that Allen was far and away the best QB, while the other half said the same about Mayfield.
I've seen it nearly first hand how much of a joke some of the reporting is for Senior Bowl week. They have guys there who watch a player for 10 minutes, see the guy in a few reps, and then give their analysis giving off the impression they've seen how that player's day went in its entirety.
There are some good fans out there who understand just how hard it is for those there to watch that many players and give their honest analysis but there's still many folks in those positions there who, in trying to look thorough and worth the credential they were given, present the fans with these reports that are largely made up of just a few reps they've seen.
Where I will stick up for many of these writers is if you go and sit in a good spot and are fully committed to it, you CAN provide SOME accurate takes in the OL/DL one-on-ones, especially the guys on the outside. Those are often the most accurate takes I have found.
Those guys try to do good jobs with the WR/DB one-on-ones but there's so many little nuances there you can't see that I wish more guys would just hold off on it until later on when those that get the master video copies can watch it and then analyze what they've seen.
This does not include the guys that go down there and speak to those that were on the field and get on-the-record and off-the-record takes and then report what they have seen and who has spoken to which teams. That stuff can be somewhat valuable to spend one's time on IMO. Guys like Tony Pauline, for instance. Those guys do not have my ire as much if they stick to that stuff.

Re: 2017-18 CFB SEASON / '18 NFL DRAFT
Doing some more work on Jacksonville State CB/S Siran Neal. HELLO!!! Haven't seen a discussion yet on here about him as far as I have been able to find? He's starting to become a near draft must for THIS team IMO.
Have to see about his make up and character on some things but it LOOKS very interesting. Comes from a big family and already has 2 kids of his own Already has a degree in criminal justice which I LOVE. Some of the stuff he says opens your eyes because he's VERY sure of himself and I'd like to see where that might go when I read more. It has the potential to go down a really cool path because I haven't yet seen him be stupid the way he words the confidence but we'll see about that as time goes on here. I was late doing a full review on him for the obvious school reasons.
If you don't know a lot about him. He was 6 foot even and 206 lbs at the SB weigh in (listed at 6'1/205). 31 1/8 inch arm but I'd have surely thought longer given how he plays and looks and how good he is with his arms. Press type corner. Exciting, physical hitter. Aggressive and willing in run support. Good hand aggression. Has the potential to be a penalty machine in the NFL if he doesn't get proper coaching but he borders on special with his hands because he looks so advanced with it already. Here's what I like best, though. He's so smooth for his size. How he transitions from the top of his backpedal into his breaks is really, really good IMO. Really good breaks on the ball.
The way I want my type of guys to play football he'd be a corner for me and I feel strongly he could work out there and it wouldn't be a quick transition to safety. Well, I can't say that for sure until I do complete work on him with the off the field stuff and see what he says about playing but if it's up for debate with anybody that's where I'd want to see him first where I think he could really excel if given the right tools.
Small note. I'd LOVE to see how he and Tartt would feed off of each other's games if given the chance to work in communication with each other. That looks like it could be fun. He's also shown to be a missile on special teams as well.
Barring a character development, and that's ALWAYS possible, though the early signs with this guy show he's already started down a very good path, I believe he's a very, very firm day 2 guy and one that should remain on my targets list if the character stuff is in fact legit.
Check him out. He's a ball of fun. Wow!

Also, his technique for getting off and around blocks for a corner is really, really good, too. He has this squaty-ness to him that you rarely, if ever, see for a corner of that size. It works for him IMO.

Jaylen Samuels - RB - Wolfpack
Optimum Scouting's Eric Galko called NC State RB Jaylen Samuels "the most impressive, complete running back" at the Senior Bowl.
A huge part of Samuels' appeal for the next level comes in his fantastic versatility. The 5-foot-11, 223-pounder worked as an H-Back with NC State, where he lined up variously in the backfield and at both receiver and tight end. The Senior Bowl has funneled him into Mobile as a running back, but whichever team ultimately drafts him will have an enormously position-flexible chess piece on their hands.

Christian Campbell - DB - Nittany Lions
Penn State CB Christian Campbell has chosen not to take part in Saturday's Senior Bowl.
Campbell (6'0/192) pointed to "risk issues" with the game and will not play in order to preserve his health. His week in Mobile proved somewhat problematic, as the Penn State corner was slow in most of his work and additionally struggled to hang with larger receivers such as Jaleel Scott and Allen Lazard. Draft Analyst's Tony Pauline put hammer to nail in his final analysis of Campbell's week, writing, "His ball skills were unimpressive and he didn't show the recovery speed or closing burst necessary to rate as more than a late-round option."

Allen Lazard - WR - Cyclones
Pro Football Focus's Jordan Plocher says that Iowa State WR Allen Lazard had his best day of practice on Thursday and "really stood out" in the wide receiver group.
Lazard (6'4/227) has gotten mixed reviews from different outlets, but Plocher was impressed with what he saw from the former Cyclone star. "Lazard had a strong day in red zone drills against defensive backs displaying good hands and body control to go along with his physicality," he writes. Lazard also has apparently had some issues with drops, but because of his size and ability to control his body, teams are going to be intrigued by Lazard as a potential red-zone threat.

Isaiah Wynn - G - Bulldogs
NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock called Georgia OL Isaiah Wynn the "most intriguing guy here" during Senior Bowl practices.
Wynn played tackle for his senior season at Georgia, but he's moving inside to give scouts a look at guard, and multiple outlets have reported that he's impressed. "I thought Wynn, the Georgia tackle who played guard this week, was the most intriguing guy here," Mayock wrote. "He had a dominant week of practice. He's helped himself a great deal." It sounds like Wynn is moving himself into Day 2 discussions, and should be one of the first guards off the board.

Love that guy. Mad his stock is up. Wanted to see if he could play C next to Q. Nelson.

DaeSean Hamilton - WR - Nittany Lions
ESPN's Todd McShay writes that Penn State WR DaeSean Hamilton could be one of the first five wide receivers drafted in 2018.
Both McShay and ESPN's Matt Bowen listed Hamilton as their under-the-radar prospect that saw their stock rise because of his Senior Bowl practices. He also stood out at the East-West Shrine Game and had a big Fiesta Bowl, so basically, it's been a good month. "Some guys seem like pros in this setting, and Hamilton definitely passed the eye test," McShay writes. "He was open all week. Based off what I saw, I wouldn't be shocked if he was one of the top five wide receivers picked in April."
