Sucks for him. Seemed like he was genuinely happy in NO. Best case for him is to resign for a year or two then go back into FA. He was finally going to get paid too.

At least he's still pretty young. Kobe had a lot more mileage on those tires. Plus Cousins is a center and doesn't rely on exploding as much as a guard does. Even if he isn't 100%, he can still be the best center in the game when he gets back.

Elton Brand was around the same age when he had his injury and he had a similar body type to Cousins. Probably worth a read, recovery from Brand's perspective.

Tough choice for Nola to make, it pretty much comes down to resigning Cousins or starting with a rebuild.

If they drop out of the race, perhaps they get lucky in the lottery.

Let it go whinny Laker fans. The Pelicans owners vetoed the trade. It was a terrible deal in the long-term for New Orleans and was never happening.

So maybe the Pels offer Cousins a 1-2 year deal to see if he’s worth it instead of the long term deal they had in mind?

Who knows how big they are on torn Achilles injuries though- maybe they don’t want to offer him the big bucks at all

I think being bigger makes this injury much worse. Kobe put like 210 pounds on his Achilles whereas Cousins has 290 to support. We see guards coming back from foot/ankle injuries sooner than bigs who have to retire when cause they keep getting injured, like Yao Ming, Greg Oden, and Bynum.

Fortunately for Cousins he’s a good 3 point shooter and play maker so he can adjust accordingly.

They usually heal after 6 months if properly cared for and treated. I see no reason why he won't be ready to play next season. Only problem will be for him is if it tears again next season, I hope it gets strong and better. Heal and get better Boogie!

Not a career ender but guys are never the same after this kind of injury. Elton Brand and Wes Matthews for example. Brand especially.
Brian Geltzeiler: You see Mark Jackson getting a head coaching job as early as next year?

Adrian Wojnarowski: Not if people make calls on him. Not if an organization is doing their homework and knows all the things he brings with him.

Man, a bad injury, at a bad time for him personally and the team. Hope he comes back ok.

I think Pel's will probably still make the playoffs on the back of AD, and they only really need to play .500 basketball down the stretch to keep a spot. But man being robbed of a twin towers playoff series is just depressing.

That injury made Brand fall off too early. He could have been a 20 and 10 guy for another 3 years.

What other centers have had this injury besides Shaq who retired afterwards?

Man, he was playing so well and so was the team. Thought they had finally come together and ready to make some noise then this happens. Injuries are the worst.

He's been overly played, his minutes and stat contributions are woofff too high for that size and weight. Blame the Pels.

I’d blame the anti-materials he was on last summer.... it’s a side effect some get.

I ruptured my bicep on 15 lb curl after being in them. A few months later I ruptured the other taking the garbage out.

Google it. It’s a real issue. Achilles are the tendon that usually ruptures.

Too bad. NO was a unique team with two dominant bigs. It would've been interesting to see if they'd have gone the Memphis route

This sucks. And to think all this could be prevented if he just made the free throw. He never would have had to dive after the rebound.

Nola should still sign him cause I think that’s what AD would want. They should keep playing their best this year (maybe adding some temporary/low cost help) and keep pushing for playoffs. They likely weren’t going to win a championship anyways - to them the goal was just make the playoffs - and they can still do that...

I’m sure the vast majority of people saying “they should rebuild” are saying that just cause they want their own team to get their hands on AD or Boogie. They should not do that. The odds that any draft pick will ever be as good as either of those guys are maybe 1/200... You keep going w/ AD and Boogie and you keep them happy whatever it takes.

Just saying, I think people generally assume the worst with these kind of injuries.

Matthews also came back from it much, much better than expected. Has just went back to playing crazy high minutes every game like he did before the injury basically from regular season game 1 since coming to Dallas.

I think it's much, much worse for guards than it is for bigs. Especially for guards who have to change directions all the time. Boogie does that too to a certain degree but that's really not comparable. He's much more crafty and relying on bulldozing through the lane than he is explosive.

Everyone needs quickness because everyone has to guard in space in todays NBA. Opposing coaches are going to pick on him, it will be tough.

He’s going get really fat, right? How much for a 375lb chucker? This could be devastating for him and NO.
