Re: Season Speculation, Trade Ideas & Discussion Pt. 5
I wouldn't count on a Davis trade any time soon. NO is already on slippery footing as a NBA city and I think there's real and legit concern that if they traded Davis and went full rebuild it's the begging of the end of the city of NO having a team. I think they will do everything they can to make it work with their generational talent. Hell I imagine they still offer Cousins a max and hope like hell he recovers; simply because it's their best gamble. If they let Cousins walk they just won't have the cap space to try and replace him.
I should note I think the NBA looks at expansion in the next couple of years with Vegas and Seattle getting teams and Memphis moving to the East. If that happens (and I think it should) then NO probably is on a little more solid footing to keep it's team and could look at rebuilding if things aren't turned around by then.

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming Wow! What a Ride!-H.S.T.

Why bother if you are not getting a player who fits in for the next 2-3 years, and I mean fits in as in contractually obligated without having to deal with FA bartering. Keep that cap space. Look around the league and you see many teams who got FA happy and crippled their flexibility. We are in a very good spot.
Just stand pat unless a smoking good deal falls in our lap. (isn't Skal a bit redundant?) No way would I deal our first pick, and Im real hesitant about moving Milw's/Miami's picks as they could be used to move up some or even land a decent PG prospect. This is our last year where being bad/abysmal could pay of. I really hope we can land one of Bagley/Ayton/Bamba/Jackson then follow it up with TBrown/Sexton/Milton/Duval/Shamat in those orders. Doncic and Porter are the wild cards that may alter this extremely
logical and economic planIt is imperative we get a top 5 pic, well... it would just make things so much easier. I really have no interest in Young. The length and speed of NBA will be a bothersome factor for him. No doubt the kid can crazy-chuck away, but we already have our mad bomber. I think Young has a dangerous down side...
I want length, D, attitude, and IQ. All of those later round PGs can shoot. I think the difference between the top 4 bigs and a late round big is much greater than the difference between Young and one of the late round PGs. Besides, like it or not, if Knight is still here (very likely) he will get every opportunity to lose the starting job.
PS... forgot about Skai G-A... he's in there too. I almost wish the season was over and we were into the combines
You and the 4 "And1ers" are funny. We're in a good spot, huh?
-- We've got 2 PFs that were drafted in the top 10 that are 'meandering in mediocrity' with no direction.
-- We have a SF drafted in the top 5 that is, just now, getting real minutes, but only by virtue of player injuries/expulsions.
-- We have another Top 5 pick that has just been given up on all-together.
-- We have a $17M expiring contract that, apparently, we are NOT going to take advantage of, to make our team better.
-- We have an interim Head Coach, with no attempt at changing that during this season--we wouldn't want to shake things up, or anything, and ruin our chance at the playoffs. Another Head Coach might become available, like, oh, I don't know Kidd?!?! (I'm not advocating going after him; just the opposite, why are we waiting? To pick up someone else's trash?)
But hey, we have Cap Space and Draft picks!! Just like last year...and the year before that...and the year before that...and the...ok, you get the point, yet somehow, you think we are in a 'good spot'.
I do not see it that way at all, because we won't do anything with the Cap Space, but sign more mid-level scrub talent like we always do. Chandler, Dudley, etc.
I do agree that the talent pool runs deep at PG this draft class, and we should be able to get a better PG than what we have. My list differs from yours, however, as I would add a couple of players, and delete one.
Troy Brown, to me, is not best suited for PG, or really, even Combo Guard. To me, he's a 2-3, rather than a 1-2. If we drafted him, Booker moves to the 1, Brown slides into the 2, IMO. Which is fine, if that's what suits McD.
Doncic
Young (I hear what you are saying, but a 'struggling Young' is still better than most of these PGs)
Sexton
Shai 'Gilgy'
Walker (Another Combo-type PG; shares duties with Brown)
Duval
Shamet
Brunson (Another FANTASTIC college PG, with limited NBA-level athleticism, like Young, but Brunson is older; more 'definite' on the athleticism issues)
Any of those guys would be better than Ulis, but long-term starter? Probably Doncic down to Walker would be guys I can see in that role, but Duval can't shoot, Shamet is a twig, and Brunson lacks athleticism.
But, as far as us being in a 'good spot'?? I'm not seeing it. As we can see, having good draft picks don't mean 'didley-squat' if they are developed properly. Having Cap Space means nothing if our teams sucks, and nobody wants to come here, which is why, Frank, you need to get back on the 'other team', and recognize that Draft Picks/Young Players are not enticing All-Stars to come here, so when an opportunity opens up to trade for an 'all-star-talent' player like Kemba, you need to try to make it happen.
This was used earlier to discuss Booker...but look a few slots down, and who do you see? Yep, Kemba. Now, put both of them on the same team, with JJ, who in the last 10 games is showing some nice ability as I showed in a previous post, and we have the makings of a Big 3. You, or others, don;t think 'Kemba' is a Top 3 option on a contending team? OK, fine, he can be the 4th option, because we are going to attract another high-level-telant, or we can draft it.
But, but, but Cap Space...yeah, Cap Space. If Kemba and Booker are on our team, we get to go into, over, whatever the technical term is, the Luxury Tax to sign our own players, in the Summer of 2019...AFTER this next Summer's FA period...next year's trade deadline...and shoot, the beginning of '19's FA period, where we can sign a player, then Max Kemba and Booker. We're allowed to do that. Chandler will be off. We do everything we can to get BK off, but if not, he'll be off the next year. But we may not need to, anyway, because we have this year's draft...
"But, but, but, we'll have to trade all of our picks and take on all of their salary to get Kemba!! Jordan said so!" I don't care what Jordan said. We make is numbers go down by taking Kemba, and Howard. Both 2 year contracts. We then, give them Warren, Chriss, and Bender...three young guys THEY can try to develop properly (well, Warren's already there, pretty much)...plus an expiring Monroe. We throw in Milwaukee's 1st, and Miami's '18 1st.
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yd7jhcul
So now, not only do they gain $7M immediately, they gain $18M at the end of the season, have their positions 2-5 worked out (with Batum avg'ing nearly 5 assts per game, anyway, so they can play Lamb/Batum together in the short term, I'd say.) All they need to do, is with one of their, now 2 x '18 1sts, is draft a true PG, and they have, say, Sexton/Lamb/Warren/Frank or Chriss or Bender/Zeller
Then, we have...
Kemba / Booker / JJ / JJJ (Jaren Jackson Jr) / Howard
Howard comes off when Chandler does, and voila' our Cap space is intact.
Are you ok? So angsty. You act so condescending in almost every one of your posts where you disagree with somebody. It's just basketball haha, no need to get so worked up.

IT is a huge drama queen. Dudes comes in, plays a few games after sitting out with an injury for most of the season and has the nerve to single out and go at Kevin Love, a guy who actually has a ring. Dude couldn't even play defense if he tried and he's spearheaded one of the worst starting line ups in the league this season. And he's calling out Kevin Love? FOH

Can't wait for the trade deadline. So tired of reading about Kemba every day. And I like Kemba. But I suppose it may not stop then, considering I still read about Kyrie on occasion.

I don’t think it will stop at the deadline, I’m sure it will continue into the draft.

Dear lord, n we were never getting him. He'd of pushed his way it of here too.
We could get Kemba, but at what price? We're in a chicken or the egg dilemma...

Boy that was a stinker last night. The Book sometimes is a little big for his britches. He played like a punk. And man, until he starts giving a crap on D, I'm really hesitant about claiming him the King of Phnx. He is no Harden yet... (will he ever be?) I have my doubts about Booker ever being a 2 way player, but it would be nice to see effort towards may be a 1.5 way ? Lets kindly call it a work in progress, but he was being schooled by whoever he was guarding, again. And really, he has to control the punk. That was some cheap **** he was doing and a smuggy response. He is doing himself no favors.
Fellas thanks for the concern....... Trust me, with the recent relaxed legislation, as well as a new found old love (*see below) ... I am coping with this dismal display of basketball with eyes set on June. Often I have opinions about what we've done, but typically, as in now, I'm trying to figure out WTF McD is doing/going to do. He's painted himself into this corner. There has to be a way out... else he's out.
It seems obvious to me to priority was/is on a keeping a tight budget till some players show promise or not. This season has been one dedicated to seeing who and what we have. It was said somewhere before, that McD fired up the stealth Tank by not replacing Bled... or rather, signing Canaan. So true. I think we could sack all the listed PGs... but of course we cant move Knight and wont move Booker's blankie Ulis.
It wouldn't make too much sense to sign a FA PF and just sideline the C & B show... there is still hope, but it is fading. Len had his chance with No Sauce, and that absence is probably the only thing that kept him a Sun.... that and the lack of demand for a clam handed C. We have no need for a SF. Good to see Jackson ballin like he is.... like a fourth pick should. NO MORE PROJECTS is all I can say. He could be making Warren a legitimate consideration for a trade. It seems inevitable if JJ continues improving.
Unfortunately (or not) I dont expect a whole lot of expensive additions next year, to start. Sarver knows eventually it will take $100mil yearly salary to compete. He might as well delay that as long as he can, potentially saving 50-60+ million. He loses no value in the franchise/initial investment.
I think it could be safe to say we keep our inked, add two first rounders and then of course the FO will trot out Knight and Williams as pseudo FAs...but hey, thats fine. Next year will have realistic(?) expectations of being a playoff team, and if it doesn't show by December, I then expect a full blown reshuffle. Thats when the expiring Dudley and Chandler hit their value peak, and we have cap space to absorb contracts/extensions. I think McD runs that tight budget till then... and will be positioned to steal any talent from a team ready to rebuild, as he can offer up expirings/capspace, youth, and a pick or two. That strategy could be accelerated with the right tasty deal in the off season. And lets not forget the coach .... I teeter and totter with Triano.
As known, this draft could house a couple of game changers. If not for the head-up-the-*** move for Knight, we'd be more excited about it than ever before in the F-n history post coin flip... It is still our best opportunity to improve in a long time. They are certainly some ready to go guys are at the top and sprinkled through out. Well, ready for this team anyways, as the job openings are there. But I am no expert evaluator... heck I wanted Dunn and Sabonis (and Fox and Markannan
)
I dont think I've done anything here but rehash what many others have said... but I did manage to at least give a lengthy summary rivaling a NavLo Bomb.
Sorry Nav... the 'Force' is strong. In the mean time, I'll get my basketball fix from the college circuit and periodically check in on the ragtaggers we support.

No way in hell the Pelicans trade AD. I think they're going to wait until Boogie comes back from injury and make a decision then because I certainly wouldn't be in a hurry to break up those two when they could easily drop 40 pts and 20 rebs on any team with ease and they're the 2 best big men in the game. But if the Pelicans were to trade AD the only great trade partner is the Celtics. They have great draft picks, young players with the potential to be superstars and a good veteran (Horford) to offer. As for the Suns I think they should wait until the summer and go after Avery Bradley or Marcus Smart for the PG spot and then Aaron Gordon for the PF spot. Gordon has really improved this year and I think he'll be a BEAST like Amare

Kemba, Kemba, Kemba, Kemba, Kemba, Kemba!!
I know who's that directed at!!
OK, I just keep answering posts with scenario's about how Kemba could work. Mum's the word. I'm do my darnedest not to bring him up, or respond to any posts and mention him directly, or try to be sly and do it indirectly, but he just happens to be the guy made available at a position of need, so, there's that...
Anyway, how 'bout them, Su-per Chargers! Some season Keenan Allen had, eh? Comeback Player of the Year, and all.
There was another forum I was one that was arguing about top 5 WRs, and why he shouldn't be one due to time missed, yet in the same breath, was saying how wonderful OBJ was. I was like...What?? The guy who just missed most of the season? The guy who's missed, It think it was 26% of available games due to injury, yet Keenan Allen has missed 32%. So, 6% difference is enough to say one guy is a Top 5 WR, but the other WR has to prove he can stay on the field, when he just did that by finishing a full season without injury? OHHHH-KAYYYY, buddy! LOL!!
Seriously, I love Keenan Allen. Seriously under drafted, and finally proving it. I wanted the Steelers to take him SOOO bad.
See, no Kemba...darn it, I said it again...shoot!

Pels are not going to trade Davis. They see the promise an AD and Cousins pairing can offer.
They also aren't trading an injured Cousins.
The best we can hope for is trading them Monroe for a 2nd and expirings (which I'm pretty sure they don't have many of).
I don't see us as a good trade partner with N.O.
I just looked - I thought Asik was expiring - he is not. Ajinca still has another year after this
Monroe should not be traded to the Pelicans
I can see them trading maybe Chandler for Asik - -but again, the Suns still have him on the books next year with a $3m buyout for 19/20 - Chandler is done next year, no buyout so basically 3m of wasted cap space.
Deal or No Deal with the Pelicans?
No DEAL!!!
Monroe is very valuable as an expiring contract - if it becomes a three way and the Suns keep an expiring or lessen cap space in 18/19 - that's fine.
This. There is no equal salary the Pels could send back outside of AD and Cousins that would be worth more to the Suns than Monroe’s $17 million off the books this summer.

Not even close, dude. You need about 3 more paragraphs!
Oh, and don't forget your patented picture of Rose-colored glasses!
As far as your 2-year window, I don't know, man, that's a loooong time.
Now, I don't know how PPP's work in trades, but the fact of the matter is, we have a nearly $18M expiring...just sitting there...and we're going to do nothing with it? That's just insane, IMO. We aren't fighting for a playoff spot, so why not attempt to use Monroe and heck if necessary to make the money work, which is why I asked, Warren, to trade for ONE Max'd player with at least 2 years on his contract, to improve our team. If we could find a player with exactly 2 years, that would be perfect.
How about this? Another one of my STELLAR trade ideas:
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=yavmp7tr + Suns '18 1st + Mil 1st
Murray / Booker / JJ - Kawhi / Chandler
Idea being we use the Mia '18 1st to get the best available Center, but until he's ready, we use Chandler...like we have. Also, no 'true' PF, here, but JJ and Kawhi on the floor simultaneously would be fine, even if we lose a little on defense.
Green expires in 2 years, as does Chandler, Duds, and Daniels, so there's $37M gone. We Max Booker, hope our Center we drafted Pans out to replace Chandler, and boom, we're done.
Anyway, that's just one possibility. But we should be doing something with Monroe's $18M salary for a team that needs him for the next 3-4 months, and get someone in return that expires when Booker needs to be paid!

I cant lie, Nav has started to sway me. The more i look at it, the more im thinking it might be a good deal. Its funny because i think i was one of the first people that was out there with a big NO when it came to Kemba (But then again i also did post a trade that i said would be the only one that i would do for Kemba with him and Howard both coming back to us).

If I can just have made a difference in one person's life for the better, than it will have been worth it...
But I promised BW I wouldn't bring "him" up anymore...
Seriously, I think there are options out there, and my biggest worry is Feb 8th (is it??) comes and goes, and Monroe, and his $18M salary is still on our 'books'...what a waste of an Expiring. He's even good, and everything. Not awesome, but he can help a team, for sure.

I've been on the fence about walker. Undersized, likes to score a bit too much for my liking, but don't they all nowadays. The undersized bothers me the most.....But he's still quality, and would make us instantly a tonne better, given our crap rotation at point at the moment. And that might make us a somewhat appealing destination for future free agents, or trades that won't get vetoed by the player not wanting to come here.
I think in the end I'm open to it, and if it's the right deal, I'd pull the trigger and give it a go I suppose. Can't be worse than the garbage we're watching now.

Yeah, but everybody and their grandmother knows we'll buy him out if he is not traded. So noone is willing to give up anything for him - plus they would have to fit his 18mill salary into their cap if they traded for him, which is no easy task. And we have 3 2nd round picks this year... How does a 2019 second rounder sound?
