I feel really bad for Cousins. Spends 7 years wasting away in the toxic Kings organization, finally gets on a decent team with a chance at the playoffs and goes down with the one basketball injury almost nobody 100% recovers from. This sucks.

I'll do some reckless speculation and say that if he cared about being in better shape, the injury would have not occurred/would have not been as severe.

Obviously, it sucks. I feel bad for him as a human being, I feel bad for anyone who enjoys watching him play (I certainly do) and for the Pelicans organization. Yet I wouldn't exactly word my outlook the same way you did. God knows Cousins deserves plenty of the blame himself for his lack of success.

He is a big boy but I don't know if his weight had anything to do with it. Kobe stays in phenomenal shape and his snapped all the same. I am surprised it doesn't happen to centers more often though with how top heavy they are. DMC should go full keto diet or something while he's rehabbing b/c he absolutely will be Oliver Miller sized if he doesn't.

Adriean Payne got waived. I always thought he'd be a good fit for a Clifford roster. I haven't seen him much since his Michigan St days though.

He was waived as a result of his name coming up in sexual assault allegations that recently surfaced during the Michigan State sex scandal pretty sure that's not a guy that Charlotte's looking to add to its roster right now

I think there were articles about D'Antoni overworking Kobe that season as well.

Yeah, it's been speculated for years that the age/mileage/MPG combo caused Kobe's career-ending injury but you never really know. It definitely makes you wonder, and it's why I never understand coaches like Thibs who just play everyone 40 minutes. Are they morons? Stubborn? Sociopaths? It's an awful way to manage an athlete and it hurts everyone involved in the end. 40+mpg in the playoffs is understandable, the Finals even more so, but the 82 game marathon of the NBA schedule was not designed to be played almost in its entirety by a 5-man lineup with three-minute cameos by a small selection of bench players.

On the topic of DMC: I wouldn't touch Cousins with a 10ft pole. I have no problem with his game, and I'm even more forgiving than most when it comes to his moody attitude, but he's not coming back as the same player. I feel terrible for the guy, he's the next D-Rose/Grant Hill/Penny, the super-talent who gets mercilessly struck down by the fates. Someone will pay him the max, and they'll regret it almost immediately. I'm just glad we're so far over the cap it can't be us.

So ... maybe we don't have the worst medical staff in the league.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

Yeah NOLA has us beat in that category. You can go back to pretty much any date in the Pelicans recent history and find 3-6 guys out with long term injuries. They've been given emergency 16th and 17th roster spots more than any other team I can remember because there were times they couldn't even field a healthy 10 man roster.

Having a bad medical staff seems pretty much inexcusable for an NBA franchise. They have so many resources and such a massive incentive to have a good medical staff.

Medical stuff isn't like scouting or coaching where there is so much variable and so much out of your control that everyone fails so much that its hard to tell who is actually good at the job or not. There is no reason for an NBA organization do be employing team doctors that can't even make proper diagnosis.

So what you're saying is that for the health and safety of the league we should get rid of the 3 pt line and go back to low-post, iso, 90s style basketball? I'm on board.

Wait, a male doctor named Misty? What's also weird is the owner of the Saints also owns the Pelicans. You'd think if you fired an employee from one team you wouldn't hire them for the other. I know they've had ownership custody battles down there but that's still really negligent.

I wonder if some owners like doctors who keep stars off the injury list to keep the crowds happy

I can't see why any team in the league would want to pick-up Griffin unless they were getting some good value in return. He just signed a max contract and last time he was able to play a full season without injury was 4 years ago.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

For that package that tells me Blake has ticking time bomb knees, Kelvin Benjamin style. His best days might be behind him

Worth the gamble for Detroit anyway. I wouldn't give a MKG/Lamb/Zeller/1st package for Blake, despite how bad we are
