Re: 2018 Brewers Discussion - Brewers Acquire Yelich for Brinson+ (pg 45); Sign Cain to 5/$80M (pg 48)

Even if we trade Santana, Brewers top 5 in the lineup had the following OPS' last year:

Cain: .803
Yelich: .807
Braun: .823
Shaw: .862
Thames: .877

Aguilar was .837 overall as well. Pina was .751. Hopefully Villar bounces back, he was at .826 in 2016, but that looks like an outlier as of now. Either way, our offense should be very good. If we kept Santana and moved Braun to 1st, and then removed a ton of games of the Thames/Aguilar platoon, not sure how much better the O is. Makes more sense to move Santana for pitching.

The bench will probably be: Sogard, Aguilar, Perez, Phillips, Bandy?

Without looking at the numbers, I feel like the one hope with Villar was hit well post All-star break last year so maybe there is a chance he bounces back. But can't bank on it obviously.

Replace Bandy with Vogt on the bench

Yea, lots of posters on BF are also making up trades where we get Mejia in a trade with Cleveland, centered around Santana and that's just not happening.

Getting Mejia is a stretch, but Santana has more value than Kipnis/Salazar

Young or controllable starting pitchers are the most valuable commodities in baseball. Salazar has his share of red flags, but he also has an electric arm and won't be a free agent until 2021.

Santana is a really good young hitter, but terrible defensively.

If hypothetically every GM was asked would you rather have Santana or Salazar, i think more would choose Salazar and hope the guy can get over his injuries, along with lessening the walks because then you have a number one or two starter.

Mejia might just be one of the most coveted prospects in all of MLB. You arent getting that level of guy for Domingo Santana.

I know the rumor is Santana to an AL team but I wonder if AZ is a possibility assuming they lose Martinez. He'd put up big numbers at chase field.

I'd heard the brewers had inquired about corbin. Not sure what a deal centered around those two would look like though since corbin only has a year left of team control.

Sign Lucroy, Resign - Walker, Keep Santana.....And Hopefully sign Darvish or Arrieta. Then look at bullpen or end rotation depth.

Why does everyone want to bring back Lucroy?

Pina is just as good now offensively and better defensively

Braun is saying they've discussed not only 1B but 2B too.

If he can get anywhere near the production we got from him on a cheap deal, why not?

If we can add a pitcher that makes Nelson our 2, with Davies, Anderson, and Chacin/Woodruff our 3-6, we will really be looking good next year.

Well Brauns bat would certainly play at 2nd, but his glove..... easiest throw on the field at least.

The idea of braun as a super utility guy is interesting, amusing, and frightening all at once.

Nelson said there's no timetable for his return so Derek Johnson is full of ****.

When Nelson will be back is the less important question to what he will look like when he's back. The history of labrum injuries in pitchers is scary some guys never regain their stuff.

I'd say the fact he's ahead of schedule and didn't have a set back now that he's throwing is very encouraging. I wonder if the fact he didn't tear it throwing a ball is a positive and its in a better location.
