It's a tear according to Woj. Was not a fan of him coming here next year or this year but seriously I watched that and it was ugly. Have to feel for the guy, who was playing great and the Pelicans.

Wow. I flipped it off with a few minutes left. Must have happened right at the end, no?

Maybe the Pelicans pay him quite a bit though. Wes Matthews suffered an Achilles injury a few years ago and ended up receiving a lot of money. Depends if a team like Indiana wants to bid up their price, or Dallas makes a move or two to clear space. The Pelicans also have no way to sign anyone of equal value in free agency.
But yeah, it is still a bad night for Cousins in a year where he really seemed like he was turning a corner for his first postseason opportunity. I hope for a good recovery.

It's New Orleans.. they gave Eric Gordon a max deal the summer after he had microfracture surgery and missed 70 games.
Cousins is definitely going to get a max

Re: Boogie to Washington...is this even a thing?
Porter has a 15% trade kicker, so if a trade goes ahead and he doesnt waive it thats gonna be 30mil per season for the next 3-4 seasons.
To include him would be wizards best asset,
But they would also need to include marcin gortat, and probably multiple picks to even think of making the trade work.
If pelicans decide on not keeping with the experiment, for a sign and trade that is kind of a win-win we would be their best optiom.
Porter, Gortat, 1st rounder for Boogie, soloman hill, asik
Pels get a replacement wing, and center and also pick,
Wiz still gotta swallow hills and asik contract to make it work...
Wiz look like
Wall-Beal-Oubre-Morris-Cousins
Pels look like
Rondo-Holiday-Porter-Davis-Gortat
Both teams look good on paper,
Though wizards would have to find a way to dump alot of salary to then build up the bench to be true competitors.
Pels have salary held down in Holiday, Davis and porter who will all peak around same age so then they could only hope they all develop.
This doesnt make either tea, world builders, but in situation of boogie leaving pels this is ideal for both teams.
Sorry if i am late to the party just needed to find somewhere to dump this, been thinking it for ages.

After your first, you change, you mature, you dont just jump into things.
After getting dunked on for the first time, life becomes complex.

Wouldn't give up any core guys because the injury and situation is too messy. I'd give up our second this year, our first in 2020, Gortat, and Markieff. I would offer Cousins a two year 40 million dollar deal.
We'd be over the cap obviously, but it's worth the gamble.

I'm pretty sure his season is over and I wonder what that's going to do to his contract demands.

I really, really hate when this happens. Achilles injuries are among the worst. I fervently hope Cousins recovers fully. What a blow.

I wonder if this makes a guy like Kelly Oubre think long and hard about agreeing to an extension this summer, even if it means he'll earn a bit less than waiting for 2019.

This is going to sound crazy but to me, the Cousins injury is the best thing that could have happened. Everything before was a pipe dream. We had 0 percent chance to get him. Now I actually think we can and I would give up anything besides our backcourt and Oubre

I don't think it changes much.

I think NOLA offers him the max or close to it as goodwill.

They just gave a near max deal to Jrue Holiday. I expect they'll max Cousins. I suspect they'll miss the playoffs this season now, too. This whole idea of a pair of superstars who have to play 40+ mpg each just to try for a first round playoff loss because the rest of the roster is so awful is just a recipe for injuries at inopportune times.
