It's 30 million in dead cap over 3 years for a late first rounder. It's really not that big of a deal if we miss it. Tim will most likely be better than whoever we would've picked there anyways, and we'd be capped out regardless

Asik has a small partial guarantee for 19-20.

It will not be a late pick. Most likely in the mid teens.

Don't get me wrong, I'm on board with this if we do it. Taking back a first for 2 years of Asik when we're gonna be capped out regardless is worth it imo

But if we don't, I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it, especially since Mirotic is better than anything we could offer the Pelicans

Would have to be McDermott instead of LFT, so Pelicans can save money for Cousins' contract next year

And I'd rather have the OKC first instead of Patton I think. Don't really know enough about him to say, but we don't need another big, especially if KP is our long term C

Let’s hope Thibs goes win now. Lee would fit in well and we get a nice prospect, salary relief and open up PT for the kids.

All in

the deal is about clearing asik 15 million worth of dead cap after this year. The NOP just want productive expiring players it seems so that they clear the space and get out of the luxury tax so they can pay Boogie next year. But still at least try to make the playoffs this year.

Seems like a few teams are interested in shedding salaries like that. These are the type of deals we should be pouncing on.

probably because we just like to "play" things out...instead of being proactive.

perfect time to accumulate a few late 1st rounders...if you hit on one you will have cheap rotational players.

You could even use a few of them to possibly trade up.

if the season ended today we could get 18 and 23 in the trade I proposed plus we would have 37 and 44 (2nd round picks)

you could def package a few of those to move up a few spots and posssibly have two lottery picks (our own and the traded for pick) next draft.

So what if we have to sit on cap space for one more year...after that both aldrich and asik are expirings and we would have a lot of cheap rookies with cap space to go sign someone in 2019...which should be the plan.

I agree completely, but not sure Knicks are thinking that way. They are probably looking at trades that can help them in the short term rather then the long term.

but its no even long term...2019 should be a realistic short term goal.

Anything before then is simply unrealistic and truly shows what has plagued this organization for almost 20 years....no one has the for-site to just wait a year or two...everyone needs instant gratification and we have the wrong people making the decision...just a little patience and we can accumulate some assets.

for once I would like to see them do this...there is about 20 years of history proving the "play" it out strategy DOESN'T WORK!

Yeah man. The last 2 offseasons would have been perfect opportunities to do that as well, but we spent every cent in an effort to win. It's just probably not in the plans unfortunately. We lack long term vision.

Yeah for sure, the only thing is we don't have any large expiring deals. We do have KOQ but he has a player option so it becomes a little risky for some teams who might be looking for guaranteed cap space.

If we do it, meh. 3 years 30 million for a late first is fine I guess, but odds are whoever we pick isn't that good

If we don't, meh. I'll wait until the deadline passes before I get mad at Perry for not making moves

asik is only a 2 year deal...that last year is only 3 million buy out.

I thought his last year was a PO?

If we only have to take him on for 2 years, then that's a lot better

I liked that trade you proposed in the other thread, with us getting firsts from Minny and the Pels. Don't realistically see it happening, it's kinda too much of a 2k trade though

When you check the ESPN trade machine it always includes this year. So his contract is for next year, and then a 3 million buyout for the following year. I would trade O'Quinn and McDermott for Asik and a 1st. Might even be inclined to throw in Beasley if they want (unless we can get something else for him?).

No way Bulls management executes a solid future plan by tanking and patiently rebuilding with lauri markkanen on the roster.

He's pretty old at 20 years of age, and his window is closing, so he needs to be in the playoffs and competing for a title NOW.

The Bulls also just sold a second round pick to the Warriors so the owner could use that money to sign a player...for the MLB team he owns. :-? That ownership group has no idea what they’re doing, and F/O is also bad. Bulls fans want a new everything.

Man we need to get on this asap. I'd take Asik's contract if it meant I'd be getting that Pels pick.

The Pelicans don’t want any long term contracts back.
