I'd say the opposite -- Wall's injury has bailed Ernie out. Now, Ernie is off the hook for the horrible moves he made, b/c we don't have John, our "franchise player." He doesn't need to make a trade.
"John Wall is a true star, one of the 10 best players in the league, as we all know. Of course, without him we are not the team we were. You can't lose a superstar w/o suffering. It's unfortunate, but injuries are out of our control."
On top of which, whatever success we do have makes those jackass moves of his look ok -- after all we've lost this great player and, look, we're still winning some games. That proves how solid we are.
Although I'm sure he'll still try to deal us under the tax barrier, he no longer has to wave his arms & flim flam to dump Mahinmi.
We may even wind up keeping our R1 pick this year & not dealing the '19 pick either (not yet, that is). A good thing.
Worst part tho is that he's saved his job -- again!
