OT - Vegas pegs Jets as odds on favorite to sign Cousins

Post#1 » by Knicksfan1992 » Thu Feb 1, 2018 5:55 pm

Couldn't find the old Jets thread so if Mods want to lock this up by all means go ahead... Anyway saw the below and thought it was interesting and want to hear what my fellow Jets fans think...

https://247sports.com/nfl/tampa-bay-buccaneers/Bolt/Kirk-Cousins-odds-released-for-next-team-he-plays-for-114468112

Personally, I'm in favor of the move. The Jets are in a unique situation for a bad team where they have young core pieces that performed above expectations last year who will probably only improve and also have the necessary cap space to take on a top 12-15 qb and still improve the rest of the team, and Enunwa coming back. Also the fact that the Jets don't have a noted history with developing young QBs and since it's a longshot we get Rosen who is probably the most NFL ready of all of the QBs in this draft, I really don't want to see the Jets ruin Jackson or Mayfield . Cousins is still only 30 and will have 5-6 good years left in him. I think it's the right time to strike for us especially with Brady being as old as he is. MOve down and take O-Line help with our early picks and we're back to being a playoff team with sustainable success imo.

for once id like to go all in on a young homegrown future franchiser. no more taking on leftovers. but as far as leftovers go, cousins is ok. i wont root against him.

I sure as hell hope not. We aren't close to the superbowl, so the move makes no sense.

Cousins still has 5-6 years of good QB play in him and we have enough money to take on his demands and still improve other positions. In a sport like football, all you need to do is make the playoffs and anything can happen in a one game scenario. I think Cousins, O-Line upgrades, and a top receiver signing puts the Jets right back into playoff consideration.

Just sign him. They never have a QB.

I have an agent friend that told me the Jets are offering 180/6 w 100 GTD to Cousins.

I’m sick. I want my avatar.

I'm torn. Not a Cousins fan but our GM's QB drafting has me with very little faith he'll actually be able to pick out the best one unless he gets lucky and we do have a bunch of needs. Honestly, I'll probably be disappointed either way mainly because the Jets never do anything right or get lucky.

I would be okay with Cousins as I think he is a little underrated by many, this guy has been playing some very solid ball in Washington even though he never had much to work with.

Now the issue here is that with the contract he is looking for it would most likely take up such a huge amount of our cap that we would be limited in filling out a roster that is still not up to par. The OLine needs work, we have no starting caliber CB, the receivers are a big question mark and we also don't have a bonafide pass rusher. Quite a few holes to fill. Sure, Cousins enables the team to go a different route in the draft and all but hitting on a franchise QB at 6 would certainly be better in terms of the long term future and the cap...
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies...

I like Cousins alot. He seems to be atleast a Top 15 QB. If you could get one of those you take them. Washington had one and they botched this whole thing. He's still young enough to give you 5-6 good years and then we could go ahead and develop a QB the proper way rather then rushing a young QB into the mess that the QB situation has been for the past few years

We have a chance to get a franchise qb, we shouldn't go out and get a quick fix. **** that.

Bad teams pay players for what they did for other organizations. Good teams draft and develop, then tax the league. Teams like the Jets will never grasp this concept. Ever

We currently have three QB's who won't get us anything in return if we shopped them around the league. Two of them being very young at that. Laughable.

QBs in the draft are honestly a crapshoot... And we'll already be behind the 8 ball in picking one because at least 2 are going to be picked before us and trading up for a QB by giving away a ton of picks hasn't really panned out historically... Signing Cousins gives you some long term stability at a position that we've desperately needed some of that for a long time. As much as I love Mayfield and Jackson they have serious flaws that they may never be able to overcome at the next level and then we're stuck mired in mediocrity once again if we whiff. We have a good infrastructure in place. The time has honestly never been better to bring an established QB like Cousins in.

I'd love that. I think the Jets still need a #1 receiver and a #1 rb going forward, but having a QB gets the most important position on the field down.

I'm a Giants fan, but I want the Jets to succeed just as much as I want the Giants to. Well, that is until they meet in the Super Bowl. :D
